Happy Pancake 6 Report post Posted September 2, 2006 OK, so Michigan is 1-0, great start, now let's go for 2-0. Michigan needs to take each game one at a time. They played better in the second half but still not as good as they should have. Breaston had a few more screw ups than I would like from a senior. I think Central Michigan will help them iron out the kinks and hopefully we can field a 100% prepared team for the Irish in the following week.
Legionnaire11 0 Report post Posted September 2, 2006 Nice game for Vandy. I knew they couldn't win this one, but at least they didn't get totally smoked. Bennett dropped one in the endzone (though, probably out of bounds) and Vandy got a lot of help from michigan's sloppy play. If Bennett had scored again, and Michigan didn't tack on that 7 at the end, it would have been a dream come true 20-14. Oh well, Vandy has to be feeling confident going into Alabama!!! Good game today. Good luck to Michigan this season, I actually do like the wolverines, it's only the Wings that I can't stand. My high school was the wolverines, blue and white though, but we played the victors for our fight song!
timothy1997 0 Report post Posted September 2, 2006 Good win by MSU. I was impressed with the solid running plays of Ringer and Caulcrick. A healthy dose of those two running backs should help out Stanton and the rest of the offense.
mannysBETTER3434 1 Report post Posted September 3, 2006 Woodley, along with the whole U-M D played excellent. The offensive thankfully has another week to play good before ND. I'm really disapointed Grady fumbled. I think he is a very good back, but if you fumble there is always another RB (Minor/Brown) looking over your shoulder. Minor is a interesting story. Look liked he was going to redshirt, because Brown came to school in the spring. When Minor arrived the upperclassmen on U-M told coaches he needed some touches this year. He looked well in his limited time today.

Heroes of Hockeytown 694 Report post Posted September 3, 2006 I was really disappointed that ND managed to pull that one out againt GT. The Ramblin' Wreck had 'em on the ropes for a while, but in the end they weren't good for more than one TD. OSU vs. Texas is circled on my calender for next week though. Time for a clash of the titans; my pick and rooting interests lie with Texas.
Hockeytown Red Wings 245 Report post Posted September 3, 2006 I'm home from college right now and the internet is having issues so I havent been around much. Firstly, the first quarter of the Ohio State game had me salivating. It was 28-0 before I was on my second beer. But there were some disappointing mistakes, 2 fumbles inside the 5 yard line, 2 missed field goals, one very makeable. The defense was all over the place...a great series, a terrible one. Wolfe had his way with us and it makes me more nervous for next weeks rematch. And I think Chris Wells will be my next jersey number purchase. The Michigan game was pretty boring. Vandy was terrible, just awful. And I couldnt really come away with any conclusion on Michigan. In some ways they looked like they were cruising along although not playing great, but it seems like they should have had their way with Vandy. The defense looks much improved but maybe that could be chalked up to Vandy incompetence. Either way, I see this Michigan team being much better than last years. Was hoping for a Notre Dame collapse, missed the second half but I saw them hold on at the end. Go Penn State next week. Saturday is a big day for me. I move into my first house with 7 of my friends for roommates...got an HDTV lined up for the 8:00 kickoff. Needless to say, I'm excited and nervous all at the same time for that one. SouthernWingsFan 854 Report post Posted September 4, 2006 (edited) Well my school just wrapped up their first game, a tough grind it out victory. We were playing like dog poop for the most part at Baylor, down 7-0 at half. They put a new pass-happy offense that was giving TCU some problems, they were moving it efficiently, but they could've easily had at least 13 points. Our starting QB got injured, not to mention two of the best running back for TCU was injured before the game started, so I thought we were in deep crap, putting in a redshirt freshman QB in on the road at a Big 12 school (yes I know it's Baylor, but give us some credit. ). We were down 7-3 in the 3rd with Baylor driving deep in TCU territory, but we caught a huge break, tipped a pass and got an interception off that deflection. We luckily scored on a huge TD pass over 80 yards to make it 10-7, and scored on another long series over 80 yards next time around to make it 17-7 in the 4th, and the defense kept Baylor honest the rest of the way. Baylor won't win the Big 12, they still might not go to a bowl game. But given the situation, brand new quarterback in his first collegiate game action ever, and on the road after being down at halftime, two of the major running backs out, and also one of our playmakers at wide receiver, you gotta give them credit where/when it's due. The QB was cool and calm almost the entire 2nd half. TCU's third straight win over a Big 12 team as well after the major upset at Oklahoma to start off last season and beating Iowa State in our bowl game last year. Given the circumstances of the game and the injuries, I don't care if it was Baylor, Texas, USC, or the Walla Walla Washington 10-year old pep squad, I'll take this ugly come-from-behind victory. Hockey0382 0 Report post Posted September 6, 2006 now that texas is no. 2 it should make for a nice game on saturday with ohio st. plus, with two texas players out of the game for off field problems it makes you wonder how they game will be now.
Legionnaire11 0 Report post Posted September 6, 2006 nobody could have seen an uglier game than me. my school is MTSU (Middle Tennessee State) who won 7-6 over Florida International (another highly prestigous school ) an opening drive touchdown. and then nothing. a missed extra point, two missed field goal attempts and the highlight of the game... a 79 yard punt. Total combined offense for both teams... 420 yards!!!!
mannysBETTER3434 1 Report post Posted September 7, 2006 I'm excited for OSU vs Texas this weekend. If it wearn't for the stupid BCS every team would dare to do this. OSU/Tex, Miami/FSU, and U-M/ND are really the only big games anymore.

Notre Dame-USC LSU-Auburn LSU-Florida OSU-Michigan West Virginia-Louisville (this year at least) Texas-Oklahoma And probably a few more I could list if I pondered some more... Legionnaire...7-6? Good lord! Curious I am...was beating Vanderbilt at the time MTSU did last year considered a huge win since they were still undefeated or only one loss, or was it to be expected? I can maybe rival that game. My school played at North Texas one year I was there, was just a short 30 minute drive north from TCU. North Texas, at least during my time while I was at TCU, had about the most bland and predictable offense you could imagine, running at least 8-9 times out of 10. Rarely had any of a passing game. The final score of that game in 2001 was TCU winning 19-5. Other than an insanely ridiculous diving touchdown grab by one of our receivers in the 1st/2nd quarter, it was the dullest game on the face of the planet. UNT didn't score any touchdowns as I suspected, and our offense was just stuck in the mud other than that touchdown, as 4 field goals would attest. mannysBETTER3434 1 Report post Posted September 8, 2006 Notre Dame-USC is a nonconference game. Yeah, but all ND's games are non conference. My original point was hardly no teams schedule hards teams right off the bat because they're afraid to lose and ruin their season. Except for games like TEX/OSU, UM/ND, and Miami/FSU, and PSU/ND

My original point was hardly no teams schedule hards teams right off the bat because they're afraid to lose and ruin their season. Except for games like TEX/OSU, UM/ND, and Miami/FSU, and PSU/ND Miami/FSU happens every season, it's an ACC game now. The ACC controls that scheduling. But what about Tennessee/Cal? Nebraska/USC? Florida/FSU? West Virginia/Maryland? There's lots of good quality non-conference games out there.....you just won't find more than one per team because it's silly of a big school to put all that postseason bowl money on the line for the sake of a game that doesn't earn them anything except for excited commentators. My original point was hardly no teams schedule hards teams right off the bat because they're afraid to lose and ruin their season. Except for games like TEX/OSU, UM/ND, and Miami/FSU, and PSU/ND ND plays Army and Navy this year. Both are Independent teams just like ND. Yeah, but all ND's games are non conference. My original point was hardly no teams schedule hards teams right off the bat because they're afraid to lose and ruin their season. Except for games like TEX/OSU, UM/ND, and Miami/FSU, and PSU/ND Florida-Florida State is one of the biggest nonconference rivalarys each and every year. Yes it has died down a bit last few years, but wasnt that long ago where this was "THE GAME OF THE YEAR" and not Michigan-Ohio State.
SouthernWingsFan 854 Report post Posted September 9, 2006 Going to be an interesting game for my school tomorrow. It's against a I-AA team, California-Davis, but this team is far from a pushover, and after my school beat OU last year in the huge upset to start the season, they fell flat on their face against an average SMU team. Plus, the last time they played a I-AA team, Northwestern State (about 60 miles SSE of Shreveport), another respectable program of that level, they got upset, which I was unfortuantely in attendance at. It's a game where all signs point to a win, but it's one of those land mine/trap games that if you don't take it in full seriousness, there's a good possibility you blow it and lose a game you shouldn't. Shockwave180 0 Report post Posted September 10, 2006 Good grief, OSU and ND at #1 & 2. It's a Michigan fan's absolute worst nightmare. Hate to be pessimistic, but I don't see us beating ND next weekend. We never win our road opener (six years in a row), and the Irish are way too strong. Hope I'm wrong.
