MSUDoubleJ19 0 Report post Posted August 30, 2007 I am so sick of watching them lose to the Royals. I have flashbacks to last year. Somebody should tell them though that if they lose all these games they won't just conveniently fall back into a wildcard spot this time. Last night was also frustrating because after Miller the pitching was great. We just can't get our guys home. It actually hurts to think about how many times we left bases loaded these past 2 games. (I think once yesterday and twice two days ago?) Ugh.
Airborn 0 Report post Posted September 1, 2007 Once again the Tigers do all the little things wrong and find a way to lose. Thames can't get a runner home from 3rd with one out in the 8th. Then Timo Perez quadruple clutches, sings his ABCs, and dances the hokey pokey before finally deciding to throw to 2nd on the eventual winning run. If he had done anything other than what he did, Piazza was a dead duck at 2nd. Of course, I'm sure if you're like me, you're wondering what the hell Perez and Thames are even doing in the game, considering we're about on our last life here. The answer; nobody has a damn clue. Apparently, we can't find room for a guy hitting 330 (Raburn) in our struggling offense. I don't blame Leyland, I'd much rather watch Thames strike out 3 times a night, than watch Raburn consistently produce.
Kp-Wings 3 Report post Posted September 1, 2007 (edited) Of the guys that have cleared waivers, I think Piazza makes the most sense. Actually Barry Bonds would probably be the closest thing to Sheff, but I don't think SF would trade him for anything less than a kings ranson. Then you have to add the fact that you're dealing with the Barry circus that follows him. This exact reason is why getting Bonds would be a bad thing. I have gone on record many times to express my distaste for Bonds. Some fans actually look at that man as a hero, which I think is totally ridiculous. Not only because of the steroids, but because of the pedestal he puts himself on, and his extreme arrogance. Just watch what he does when he's interviewed. If you're not a Giants fan, I can guarantee that you'll want to punch him in the throat. Now, with that rant over, it's time for more pressing matters at hand. Like the Tigers losing to, once again, a non-playoff team. Normally I'd be a lot more mad then I am now, but thankfully Seattle and NY Yankees have both been losing just as much lately, so we still have a chance. That goes without saying: we still can't lose to crappy teams like Oakland. We need all the wins we can get at this point. RockyMountainWingGal 108 Report post Posted September 1, 2007 Nice 9th inning comeback vs. the As - only to lose in the 10th inning. A missed play at second and a few bad pitches from Zoom and......that has been the story of the season. Missed opportunities! Outside shot at the wildcard still. Everytime the Tigers get a chance to move up a game - they blow it. I'd like it things turned around - but realistically not going to happen. I'll still watch until the end though - might as well go down with the ship!!!!
Guest DetroitIan Report post Posted September 1, 2007 All I know is, THANK GOD the Wildcard race has been tamed down a little bit. 5.5 games back on Cleveland. But only 3 games back for the Wildcard. And the Seattle just lost today. So actually, Im still pretty confident we can get the job done.

GoWings1905 2,694 Report post Posted September 1, 2007 (edited) The Tigers have blown their chance I agree. Cleveland is playing exceptional baseball, and 5.5 games is a ton of ground to make up in roughly 25 games left to play. The wild card still has an outside chance, but I don't see any way the Yankees don't win that. The long stretch where Cleveland was equally bad to the Tigers was the breaking point. That was the Tigers chance to pull away, and they missed that opportunity by a long shot. Starting pitching has made all the difference in the world. Verlander is the only reliable starter in the whole rotation. I hate to sound like a pessimist, and I hope greatly that the Tigers prove me wrong. Facts are facts though, and the fact is the Tigers aren't good enough right now to be a playoff team. If Rogers and Sheffield can get back quickly, then maybe they can sneak in. All they need to do is get into the playoffs, and anything can happen after that. The schedule is favorable in September, but that only works if the Tigers take advantage of it. I would love nothing more than to see playoff baseball at Comerica again this season. Edited September 1, 2007 by GoWings1905
Kp-Wings 3 Report post Posted September 2, 2007 (edited) Yay. We won today. Verlander looked good, for once, and the hitting was great today. I suggest Leyland start taking notes or something on these games we win. Notice whenever Raburn is put in, he produces. It confidens me to wonder why he doesn't play more, especially when Thames is usually the one put in instead, and he sucks compared to Raburn. Oh well, at least we won. Only problem is New York also won, but Seattle lost, which is good. Edited September 2, 2007 by Kp-Wings
Guest DetroitIan Report post Posted September 2, 2007 Well, for anyone out there that's still doubting the Tigers. We are up 7-0 nothing in the 5th. The Yankees already lost today, Seattle already lost today. Which means if we can hold on to this 7-0 lead. We are only 1.5 games back for the wildcard. And Kenny Rogers is almost 100% finally. So actually, things are looking pretty damn good. I havent lost an ounce of faith. Cause even if we dont win the division, Im totally confident that we'll nab the wildcard spot. Guest DetroitIan Report post Posted September 2, 2007 Todd Jones is the WORST closer I've ever seen in my life. The dude is a complete ******* joke. I KNEW he was gonna ******* blow it. As soon as I seen that Jones was warming up, I KNEW we were f***ed. The piece of s*** lets them come back and tie it up 7-7(with no ******* outs). Then almost loads the bases after that! What the f*** is Leyland thinking??? It's not over yet, but I already get the vibe that we're gonna lose this one. Granted, I STILL have faith that we'll get the wildcard. But I've officially lost faith completely that we will not win the division. Not with s***ty Todd Jones as our closer.

Guest DetroitIan Report post Posted September 2, 2007 (edited) I'll just copy and paste my feelings on Jones from the Detroit Tigers thread. Todd Jones is the WORST closer I've ever seen in my life. The piece of s*** lets them come back and tie it up 7-7(with no ******* outs). Then almost loads the bases after that! What the f*** is Leyland thinking??? We lost because Todd Jones is an absolute joke of a closer. Some blame even has to go to Leyland, for actually keeping this bum in. Absolutely ******* pathetic. Pathetic. Kp-Wings 3 Report post Posted September 3, 2007 Wow. I'm absolutely speechless. I'm about ready to say f*** it. Seriously. How in their right minds do they blow a 7-0 lead to a team that's 9 games out of the playoffs, and has a losing record? Where is the consistancy with this team? Why can't Todd Jones actually close a game? Why is Leyland such a God damn idiot that he doesn't pull him out before he completely blows it? Why can't we even win two games in a row for once? I can't even remember the last time we did. No chance in hell this team wins the division, and they'll be damn lucky to even make the playoffs.
Kp-Wings 3 Report post Posted September 3, 2007 How about we kill Leyland first. Then, while we're at it, we might as well kill the whole damn team. Today's game was just ridiculous. Far none.
Airborn 0 Report post Posted September 3, 2007 The 2007 Tigers have many quirks (or faults if you want to be negative). One of them is that after scoring early, they stop having good at bats, and rarely do they ever tack on insurance runs. Today that bit them in the ass big time. The bullpen has actually been good lately, so I suppose we were due for a collapse. All in all, Jones has been pretty good lately, as has Rodney, both of whom equally sucked today. One more thing, it figures this would happen in a Robertson start. He could throw a perfect game and we'd find a way to lose it. Bad things always seem to happen when he's pitching. GoWings1905 2,694 Report post Posted September 5, 2007 (edited) Well my BJ's are starting to show a bit of life, we swept away the mariners and have a couple HUGE series against the blow sox and danks, look out Tigers the Jays are about to leap frog you in the Wild Card That wouldn't surprise me one bit. The Tigers are 4-9 against the White Sox this season now, and show no signs of turning it around. All this crap about how Rogers and Sheffield are going to come back and push the Tigers into the playoffs is a frickin joke. There is no way they are catching the Indians at seven games back for the Central, and the Yankees are 3.5 games up in the wild card, and aren't even playing that well right now. Blame it on whatever you feel worthy, but the Tigers aren't going to make the playoffs. Period. If I'm wrong, I'll be here to admit it. I would be inclined to look at the Tigers schedule the rest of the way and say that it's so easy, and they still have a shot, but they can't beat the crappy teams anyways, so big deal. Just since the All Star Break, from my memory, I can recall the Tigers losing two of three to the Royals twice, going 2-7 vs. the White Sox, splitting ten games with Oakland, and splitting a four game series with the Devil Rays. That's not going to get a team to the playoffs. The American League is too good to be giving away games to inferior opponents. Also, nice managing having Timo Perez and Omar Infante batting third. I'm not sure why the hell Ryan Raburn is rotting on the bench, but since Inge and Thames are both doing so well, I wouldn't take them out either.
