It was a brilliant trade even before this. I guess Urbina just wasn't a good locker room guy.
Kp-Wings 3 Report post Posted March 31, 2007 If you haven't heard the bad news yet... Kenny Rogers out for 3 months Seriously, this is bad news in my opinion. He was clutch last year. If the Tigers find themselves in a World Series run again, I hope Kenny can return to form and play like he did last year, especially against Oakland. In other news if you haven't heard, Guillen signs 4 year extension. Decent signing, as Guillen is a good player. A little steep, but I'll take it.
Lou_Siffer 1 Report post Posted March 31, 2007 I think 4 years 48 mill is an excellent signing! I have no problem with it at all. We can get by without Rogers, Bondo just needs to pitch like the ace he's supposed to be this year. I'd much rather they go with Miller right now over Durbin...and i guess they dont feel very highly of Zach Miner.
betterREDthandead 58 Report post Posted April 2, 2007 I think the Rogers injury will be a blessing in disguise. Guess who will be fresh for the stretch run? Three months out, scheduled to come back maybe around the All-Star Break - perfect, especially for a guy who's got a bit of a reputation for having tough second halves. Have I ever mentioned how much I absolutely love finally having a really good baseball team to root for? Just think, only a year ago this was a team with a hellish losing rep. And now, articles like this one, which pretty much gushes with praise for our boys: Tigers have built themselves a superpower By the way, it's not mentioned in the article, but guess who the author's pick for AL MVP is? Gary Sheffield. And Bonderman is getting a little Cy Young love in the predictions category too.
Airborn 0 Report post Posted April 2, 2007 Opening day is here! 5 predictions heading into the season: 1. Bonderman realizes his potential and becomes a Cy Young candidate. 2. Verlander struggles the 1st half, but turns it around the 2nd half. 3. Our bullpen is lights out. Left handers, who needs 'em! 4. Breakout seasons for Monroe and Granderson 5. We finish with 95-100 wins and make the playoffs for the 2nd straight year. I think 4 years 48 mill is an excellent signing! I have no problem with it at all. We can get by without Rogers, Bondo just needs to pitch like the ace he's supposed to be this year. When you consider what Young from Texas got, I can't believe we got Guillen (who is a better player than Young) this cheap! I'm with you on Miller. I'm sure he's on speed dial if Durbin struggles. Kp-Wings 3 Report post Posted April 3, 2007 Eh, the Tigers lost. I thought for the most part they played pretty decent, until the tail end. Rodney struggled to get decent pitches off, and he had, what, 3 or 4 walks off the same out. His pitches go all over the place. He did this same thing a lot last season too. Oh well. Unfortunately , I missed the game (work), but I'm a little disappointed our bullpen blew it. Oh well, only one game.
BlakChamber 8 Report post Posted April 4, 2007 I was hanging out on Cass for the game. Kinda pissed I couldn't get tickets, but oh well. Basically, two bad innings ruined an otherwise decent game for the Tigers. Once Bonderman got settled down he pitched pretty well. I'm so happy that baseball is back! Kp-Wings 3 Report post Posted April 5, 2007 Man alive, the Tigers were lucky to get out of that one. Didn't see the whole game, but I come home from work and their up 10-2. A little later, the Jays make it 10-9. They almost blew an 8 run lead. I wonder if the cold weather effected their play or something. I can't believe they almost blew it. Oh well, they still won. I see the Jays as being a potential problem this year when we play them though. They've got some good hitting up front, and could be contenders this year. Yeah, Ordonez nearly blew this one with some atrocious D in right field today. Bad conditions, but still not a good day for him. On the bright side we had 9 walks today! Also, Grandersen and Polanco are absolutely raking!
betterREDthandead 58 Report post Posted April 5, 2007 The Extra Innings package will remain on cable. Hooray! Selig and his band of cronies got this right for once. It won't actually help me this year, because I'll be overseas most of the summer and it doesn't make much sense for me to shell out for the package, but I'm glad I'll have the future to look forward to. Now if only the NFL will put Sunday Ticket on cable too, then I can watch the Lions be putrid all year long instead of just Thanksgiving.
Airborn 0 Report post Posted April 6, 2007 Here's an update on Andrew Miller's 1st outing for Lakeland. He pitched 5 shutout innings, 3 strikeouts, no walks, and 3 hits. First round draft pick Andrew Miller fired five shutout innings .....Miller (1-0), meanwhile, breezed through the Tampa line-up http://www.theledger.com/apps/pbcs.dll/art.../704060396/1254
Airborn 0 Report post Posted April 7, 2007 Pretty sorry game tonight against the Royals. I never would have thought it possibe, but I think Ordonez's defense has gotten even worse over the Winter. Three more bad plays in the outfield (error in the 1st, misplayed foul ball in 4th, and poor throw negating a double play in the 7th). Leyland might want to rethink the whole "Sheffield as DH" idea if this continues. On the bright side, Verlander pitched well (6 innings, no earned runs). He was lucky the 5 walks didn't hurt him more, but he was virtually unhittable when he got it over.
betterREDthandead 58 Report post Posted April 7, 2007 Is it too early to panic over the bullpen? They've blown two games and tried to blow a third.
Guest Agalloch Report post Posted April 7, 2007 I knew the bullpen would be shaky coming into the season. I have no idea why DD signed Mesa. The guy sucks balls, and is a cancer. Rodney chokes under pressure, and Grilli is just terrible. Everyone else is solid, but that means nearly half the bullpen sucked. Hitting looked awful tonight. Sigh. ******* lost to the Royals. When is Sheffield going to do something? Better yet, when is Brandon "6 million a year" Inge going to get a ******* hit?!
Airborn 0 Report post Posted April 7, 2007 Is it too early to panic over the bullpen? They've blown two games and tried to blow a third. They should come around. There's too much talent there not too.
Kp-Wings 3 Report post Posted April 7, 2007 Ordonez has been terrible lately. I don't know if it's just an early season slump or what, but he is awful. Same goes for Rodney. His pitching better improve, especially if he's going to be playing the role of closer. Is it too early to panic over the bullpen? They've blown two games and tried to blow a third. You know, that's what I've wondered myself, especially after almost blowing an 8 run lead to the Jays. Mesa is probably the worst, as I am still scratching my head over him being here. Rodney and Grilli have shown flashes of being ok, but at the current time they are not getting it done.
Lou_Siffer 1 Report post Posted April 7, 2007 Here's an update on Andrew Miller's 1st outing for Lakeland. He pitched 5 shutout innings, 3 strikeouts, no walks, and 3 hits. Beautiful. Is it wrong that part of me is rooting against Durbin? Dont get me wrong, I hope the Tigs win his starts...but like 12-10. Well even though they lost yesterday, i take solace in the fact that Verlander gave up no runs and was bringin' the heat! After his very poor spring you had to wonder if he'd get off to a s***ty start.

Airborn 0 Report post Posted April 8, 2007 PUDGE!!!! Unbelievable; 3 run homer in the 9th that wins it for us. Also, great job by the bullpen to keep the game close, and another quality start by Bonderman! Now if we could only get Inge to do something. He still doesn't have a hit on the season and he popped up with the bases loaded. Before Pudge's homer, we were 2-12 in the series with runners in scoring position.
