OFFICIAL: Forsberg traded to Predators

Say what you like about Nashville over-paying for Forsberg.

At least Nashville's GM has the "sack" to try something like this.

While Holland likes to hang on to his re-treads, we'll see what

happens in response.

I'll bet it'll be somebody old and cheap if anybody, because teams in the league

now know that he's desparate and have upped their price for Holland to

counter this move. That's the real genius behind the Nashville trade.

Go Kenny, now you'll have to wait until the off-season to get some

lame-a$$ free agents.

Yes, I would love for Holland to display the "sack" to trade away our best prospects from a system that's mediocre at best. Holland should have had the "sack" to undo several years of work rebuilding a system depleted by years of success resulting in very low draft picks, and brought about by trading half those draft picks and prospects to bring in veterans for a Cup run. Should have had the "sack" to acquire an injury-riddled shadow of a former superstar and ruin the upcoming draft in the process.

Give me a *%&$ing break.

We could watch Hudler break the 20 goal mark next year in a Flyers uniform, and watch Kindl be a Calder candidate wearing orange and black. And no draft picks this year worth a damn. We'd be OK, because we'd have made it all the way to the second round before Forsberg's ankle gave out and he retired on the spot. That'd all be fine, 'cause Kenny would have displayed some real "sack". Go go Kenny!!:thumbup:

Well, the world order doesn't get turned upside down. Forsberg is on a rival where he belongs and I can go back to making fun of his dives.

P.S. Anyone who thinks Holland should have outbid that package is nuts.

 someone with some idea at whats going on in the real world. We can't give up our future for a rent a player!

how do you define big market team? one that is unable to fill arena

for god only knows how many years already?

Not to derail this thread but Jersey is a big market team. If they were the only team in that market they'd probably fill an arena twice as big and have a big fat television contract. The problem is that they are NOT the only game in town. You've got the Rangers, Islanders, and Flyers all within a couple hour drive and those teams already had established fan bases when Devils moved in. I lived in northern New Jersey and all the hockey fans I knew were rabid Ranger fans.

Good for Nashville. I am sure we will keep up, and they made their move first so that helps. Those Nashville games are going to be classics now!!

Yo Zion, last year we had Manny, this year Hasek. :o

I still think we will make a really good couples of moves like Matt said. I wouldn't even be surprised if a star player was traded away. 13. Now it gets real exciting.

Why would Kenny break up the hottest line on the team and the line that is starting to be the best line in hockey?? Pavel and Hank were both in slumps at the start of the season, and now they are both on fire. Yeah lets trade  13 and break up the entire chemistry of our best line. that sounds like a real good plan.

I wouldn't have been mad if we got Forsberg, His heath issues scare me alittle but the guy is a force in the playoffs, true he hasn't been there the past few seasons, but trust me talent like his don't go away over night, just like I mentioned about Fedorov.

If we could only land, Bertuzzi and Sergei ( I know I know never happen) We could almost be a lock to win another Cup.

I can see the new rivalry aswell and I like how you guys pointed out all the simliarities of Nashville and Colorado.

22 LePuke and now mr. TooToo BOO-HOO. Kariya would be like thier Joe Sakic in a way. Forsberg. but I can't see Vokoun being anything like St. Patrick. Play and a Personality wise.

I just don't want us to get the Ducks in first round.

Interesting that Kronwall was the requested return. Glad Holland turned it down, but it also shows that at least one other NHL GM thinks that Kronwall's 5-year contract is more than reasonable.

(I think it is, too.)

Agreed, even though it sucks more than anything that not only was Foresberg traded back to the West, but to the Predators as well, the price tag for a rental player like Foresberg is just way too steep.

Well said.

Every good hockey analyst I've heard has always said a good GM won't sacrifice the future of the club just for a quick fix now.

Anyone else see Holland picking up a turd that will be a non factor for us?

I dont care so much that we didnt get foresburg, but when exactly did Kenny H do what he said with this team?

No more toughness or talent than before.

I just see this going after a star player quote not coming to fruition, and another early exit from the playoffs by a bully team.

...well Nashville is one of the better teams in the league right now. And this day and age of NON-dynasty teams (thanks to the salary cap,) why not waive the NTC to have a good chance at winning the cup, and then sign somewhere else the following season if you aren't really happy there...

...well, who's left that we want, Bert, Doan, Smith, Lapointe?

If I'm not mistaken, Doan was signed to a five-year contract by the Coyotes just a few days ago.

I am sooooooo glad this schmuck is off the market. Floppa is going to ruin any type of chemistry that Nashville did have. Not only that, the chances of him finding a skate that will make him happy so he can play the rigorous schedule of the playoffs is VERY slim.

from what I've heard Parent is supposed to be top-4 defenseman, but Upshall prety much couldn't crack Preds lineup and was injury-prone (yeah, as if Floppa wasn't)

I would have expected Upshall, a 1st and a 3rd. I heard the rumors about Parent and Getzlaf but I didn't believe them for a second. I had the chance to see Parent in the WJCH:s and he is the real deal, a steady top four defenseman for sure. I wouldn't have done Parent plus picks, but the Flyers managed to squeeze in Upshall there as well. Good for them! I realize the Preds have a surplus of young defensemen, but Parent could have landed them a solid return on his own in any other trade.

Wish we could've landed him, and really wish he stayed in the East. Nashville looks awfully dangerous.

And no, Nashville did not give up too much. A couple of picks and a couple of prospects with little NHL experience is not a lot when you get perhaps THE best player in the NHL in return. Obviously, the big question is whether he can stay healthy, but if he can.....oh boy.

The Preds have been struggling to draw crowds, and I don't think there was any other player out there, that was quasi-available, that can generate excitement and draw fans like Forsberg. So aside from helping the team with a Cup run, it just made business sense.

Hope we respond by getting Guerin. Tkachuk would be alright too, but his personality might disrupt the locker room.

I dunno, for a rental? It was an act of desperation by the preds, they need butts in the seats, everyone can see this.

Crimson, you're full of insults, and not much else. Why don't you tell me exactly WHY we will go far this year as opposed to the previous 3 playoff years? This is the weakest team we've ever had, and our regular season scoring is down.

What would make you think we would turn on that playoff scoring THIS year, having been unable to do it the last 3 with better scoring teams?

Oh, and f*** you, too.

Good for Nashville. I am sure we will keep up, and they made their move first so that helps. Those Nashville games are going to be classics now!!

Yo Zion, last year we had Manny, this year Hasek. :o

I hate to agree, because I've been a fan of Manny's since watching him play for the Kings as their 3rd stringer. But, he seemed to lack the mental toughness to make it. Add our lack of scoring, and there's your losing recipe. I am amazed to find myself very confident with Dom's goaltending.

I wouldn't say that they were in slumps at the start of the season... They weren't playing together... Babs was mixing lines every damn shift... no chemistry at all... We don't have quality forwards to split Zetterberg & Datsyuk... Samuelsson??? Williams??? Cleary (I like this guy)??? those players aren't "top 6 forwards"...

I agree 100%. I think the move shows some real desperation on the part of the Preds. I think they believe any sacrifice to improve their odds of winning the cup this year was worth whatever future hardships it may cause, because they believe bringing home the cup will somehow turn Nashville into a hockey town.

I think the move shows some real desperation on the part of the Preds.

I wouldn't call it desperation, per say, but they're definitely pulling out all of the stops in an effort to win the Cup. And why not? They've got three good scoring lines now, a deep defense, and a solid 1-2 tandem in net... The cherry on top is that all of the years leading up to this one where they've been mediocre has resulted in good draft positioning that -- coupled with good scouting -- has resulted in great organizational depth.

Hence the package that no other NHL club was willing to match. I don't think the move will adversely affect the Predators at all 3+ years down the road.

Agreed. I dont in any way think Nashville has jeapordized much, and I do think they are a strong contender.
