LionsAndRedwingsAndPistonsOhMy 3 Report post Posted April 20, 2007 I was perusing Hockey news, and saw that Slava Kozlov is an unrestricted free agent after this season. My initial reaction was: Sweet! Bring him in our 4th line, retire him as a RedWing! Then I looked at our roster. While the nastalgia factor would be great, I just couldn't justify taking the spot from any of these guys: Zetterberg, Bertuzzi, Calder, Holmstrom, Filppula, Kopecky After looking at the roster, it seems fairly deep with the exception of Right Wing....had never really looked at the entire picture, and I really like it. I guess I'll have to be content with old Hockeytown videos

LeftWinger 5,146 Report post Posted April 20, 2007 ...he could replace Sammy. Maybe Lang. Would he pull senority on the #13 though? ...nostalga aside, I'd take both Kozzie and Feds back in place of Sammy and Lang... (they'd have to sign of $2MM or less though and for no more than 2-3 years)

LeftWinger 5,146 Report post Posted April 20, 2007 Seem to remember he was clutch in the playoffs ...that is the one thing that was CONSISTANT with Kozzie. 20-30 goals a year and super play-off performer. BUT, would he be the same without Igor and Sergei? ...speaking of Igor, and not to change the subject. But if the Wings get knocked out of the first again, fire Babcock and bring in Igor as the first Russian Head Coach in the NHL. Maybe Papa Bear would be Asst... ...SLAP! Ok, ok I'm awake now! Sheesh! TheCaptain19 49 Report post Posted April 20, 2007 was clutch in the playoffs... had no points this year while getting swept out.
haroldsnepsts 4,826 Report post Posted April 20, 2007 I haven't had a chance to see him play in a while, but it sure seems like he'd be an upgrade over samuelsson. As others have mentioned, Slava was streaky in the regular season, but big in the playoffs.
HomeNugget 2 Report post Posted April 20, 2007 i'd take him back in a heartbeat. all the russians had great vision and hockey sense.
Lou_Siffer 1 Report post Posted April 20, 2007 If the Wings lose to the Flames, you think Slava Kozlov is part of the solution? Hell no.

Lou_Siffer 1 Report post Posted April 20, 2007 He is a great playoff guy. Would love to have him back just for that. Isnt Robert Lang supposed to be a playoff performer too? Things change with time. You cant just sign Kozlov and assume he'll contribute in the postseason. Kozlov had 0 pts this year, as has been pointed out.
grimace1970 81 Report post Posted April 21, 2007 Even trade - Slava for Lang.

The_Cub 0 Report post Posted April 21, 2007 One of my all time fav Wings. Was really sad when he left. Who knows what he would be now though. Its been a few years. Boy he could let the puck go at the net in a hurry.

I'd play Slava over Kopecky, grit be damned.
Kp-Wings 3 Report post Posted April 21, 2007 (edited) I'd play Slava over Kopecky, grit be damned. I'd play Kozlov over Kopecky too. Kopecky's one goal in 26 games wasn't all that impressive, and really wasn't all that gritty to begin with. He did hit guys, but really didn't stand out all that much, at least that's the way I look at it. Edited April 21, 2007 by Kp-Wings

Yeah but im sure theres alot of guys who'll be FA's who'd be a 1000 times more beneficial to this team than friggin Kozlov! I dont buy into the logic of lets get so and so just because he's better than (insert lame player). A player like Kozlov isnt needed on this team.

With the current budget situation though, and the amount of rookies that will soon be ready to play full time, there's not much better. I know we can come on say "Let's sign Chris Drury", but is there any chance of that happening? No, probably not. A player I would like to see here, and you probably know him Lou, is Brad Isbister. He hasn't been all that great the past couple of years, but he is a former 20 goal scorer not too long ago. And to add to that, he fights! I dont buy into the logic of lets get so and so just because he's better than (insert lame player). A player like Kozlov isnt needed on this team. Slava Kozlov got 80 pts this season. He has career 0.74 PPGin reg. season and 0.67 PPG in the playoffs. He is 35 years old. If you can name 10 upcoming free agent forwards better than him, I'd be shocked. Let alone 1000. He may command more money than the Wings would be willing to pay, but as a player, there aren't too many better.
SouthernWingsFan 854 Report post Posted April 21, 2007 At the time, the Wings just had to trade him to Buffalo for Hasek. As much as I like Kozlov, you can't just pass at what seemed to be a not-so-difficult attempt to get Hasek a few seasons ago. With that being said, I'd take Kozlov back in a haertbeat in a 2nd/3rd line role. He almost always came up big in the playoffs.
