Wow, that's weird. I wouldnt mind having Horcoff on this squad. But I havent heard a thing about us having any interest in him. I'll be really curious to find out why he's skating with us. Definitely could be two buddies practicing together. But who knows.

Moreso why would he be skating out there with the Oils s*** on if he was FOR us?

Hes not skating for US. It looks for like he is just goofing around. I don't think its unheard of for players to practice with friends during the summer. He played for Michigan State for a while - he probably comes back to the Detroit area to visit buddies in the summer. Thats my best guess.

Anyone remember when those pics of Crosby practicing with the Kings came out a few summers ago? He was wearing a Kings sweater to boot. That caused a little stir.

Oh and Igor Grigorenko's mug shot for Cherevpovets had him wearing a Washington Captitals t-shirt.

Moral of the story is these guys have ties to other players or teams all around the world.

It is really strange to see him in his Oil can crap in that pic.

But like many have said before, that leads me to belive that he is not coming to detroit to play for us and that he knows some guys on the team.

I have to say thats pretty cool that guys from other teams work out togeather in the offseason. I know it happens with Basketball but i can't imagine this happening in any other sport.

If I am not mistaken Jon Insana is at the wings camp this year, Horcoff and him played together at Michigan State for two seasons. Maybe thats how he is there.

I would not mind seeing him in a Winged Wheel, he is a decent center.

Igor Grigorenko lines up for a drill behind Chicago Blackhawks forward Sergei Samsonov, who lives in Detroit during the off-season.

Look who else is at the Troy Sports Center in his Chicago Blackhawks gear, Sergei Samsonov.

Its not uncommon for players who are staying or living in the area to practice with each other before traingin camps start. These aren't official Red Wings practices, teams can't officially hold them until certain dates, so players get together and basically have pick-up practices with anyone around who can realistically play

I remember guys likes Derian Hatcher (before he played with the Wings) and even college players would skate at the Troy Center with Wings starting in early August.

I have a buddy (Anton Fedorov, the first Russian-born player to play in the CCHA and played for U of M back in the early 90's) skated with the Wings a while back (he was skating with Larionov, Kozlov, Dandenault among other at the time).

Everyone's so quick to jump to conclusions around here.

Samsonov has practiced with WIngs players before - he's lived in Detroit since his NHL career began. It's easier for him just to practice somewhere close for him.

Horcoff is interesting, but I believe he also has a home in Michigan, and also went to MSU back when he was younger. There's a logical explaination.

So, in short: don't be expecting any blockbuster trades or anything. ;)

^^^ Exactly.

I've been to so many of their practices and seen a bunch of other NHLers practice with them. Samsonov practices with the Wings almost every summer. I've seen Smolinksi a lot too. No surpised to see Horcoff there.

I am so bummed. By now I'd usually have met a bunch of the guys and seen them practice, but thanks to stupid college interfering with the times..I can't go. :(

Speaking of which.. they will be practicing at Troy tomorrow from 9-11. I am angered that I will not be able to be there seeing as how it's 5 minutes away from me, but I thought I'd share the news with some of you that might be able to go.

Horcoff's also good friends with Cleary i believe, they played on the same line in Mora IK in sweden during the lockout.

Yep. You can go right in and just watch them up close! Right against the glass if you want. Tis an amazing experience. lol

After class today I realized it was only 9:55 and practice was till 11 so my bestie and I drove pretty damn fast from 12 & Mound to 16 & John R. to see the guys.

Rafalski looks GREAT. That guy is something else I tell ya.

GOT TO SEE OZZIE TOO!!! :) And all the rest. WOOT. Even though it was only for like 20 minutes but it was worth it.

They'll be there tomorrow as well. Same time. As will I!

I was not expecting any trades or anything. I just was saying I like his playing style, but in all honesty I do not forsee him ever becoming a red wing.

Although, Eklund more than likely is going to try and start a rumor from this.

Awesome!

You might want to bring a jersey or something for them to sign cuz they actually stop and sign for fans and take pics after practice. *if they don't have to go right away*
