Opie 308 Report post Posted November 12, 2007 (edited) EVA ARE YOU ON CRACK: you think that a first year player takes time to develop and get used to the NHL game. You must be high everyone on here knows that when a player steps onto the ice they should be an elite NHL player with if they are going to be deserved of the winged wheel. Please you need to raise your expectations of players if you're going to be a wings fan, next you will tell me that you are actually happy with the year Dats is having!! /sarcasm Edit clarity Edited November 12, 2007 by Opie
betterREDthandead 58 Report post Posted November 12, 2007 Dude has always been a bit of a slow learner. I seem to remember reports that the team was frustrated with his progress or lack thereof when he was playing juniors, and he certainly parked his ass in GR for a while. There's a reason he made it this far though. It sounds like he's responding to Babcock's message.
GMRwings1983 8,804 Report post Posted November 12, 2007 Thank god for Patrick Sharp. He's made Lilja and Kopecky look like Bob Probert the last 2 yrs. Maybe Sammy should fight him the next time we play to boost his physicality.

theman19 47 Report post Posted November 12, 2007 does anyone have a video of this monumental hit? All NHL.com has is the hit vandermeer laid on cleary.
Grittzkey 1 Report post Posted November 12, 2007 I always liked Kopecky,I think if he keeps mustering points like every 1:4 games and makes these nice hits and being really competitive. there is no reason he cant replace cleary on the 2nd line PP, Cleary is pretty much limited on the PP on what he can really do. Kopecky can do what Homer does *maybe*, Kopecky can also handle the puck and shoot the puck relativly well also. Id like to see them atleast try this out, if things so go smoothly with Kopo. I don't know if there are vids available, but he had at least three big hits that I remember against the BJs, and one good one in the Hawks game. Maybe aflac will have them in his 'Previous Game' vids in the GDTs? Cheers to Kopecky! esteef Thank god for Patrick Sharp. He's made Lilja and Kopecky look like Bob Probert the last 2 yrs. Lou_Siffer 1 Report post Posted November 12, 2007 Told you guys he just needed a little time. Told us? So all along you were just hyping him up as a 4th line grinder? Hmmm...couldve fooled me! This is the role i said Kopecky has to play to have any chance in the NHL. He wont score any goals, so he needs to hit on a consistent basis (consistent being the key word) and drop the gloves on occasion to warrant being in there. Prior to being scratched, he wasnt doing either....so hopefully this is the wake up and he's going to keep this up. We'll see...im not exactly sold that he will, but after last night at the very least i'd rather him play over Ellis and caged Drake. So thats at least progress! No, I said he would come around and show the kind of game he had been showing early last season and in his last year in grand rapids; a physical game with decent offensive upside that hopefully will develop into a solid 2nd/3rd line two-way grinding winger. You know...what I have been saying all along?
wingnut40 176 Report post Posted November 12, 2007 I'm glad to see him step it up. He needs to play like that every night. You know...what I have been saying all along? Kopecky showed nothing like this last season. Hey, Im all for guys who are willing to scrap and hit, so if he keeps this up i dont have any problem with being in the lineup. But lets still keep things in check here...he has still yet to show any goal scoring potential at all to this point. I dont really see how you can peg his upside as a possible 2nd liner...or even 3rd for that matter. Thank god for Patrick Sharp. He's made Lilja and Kopecky look like Bob Probert the last 2 yrs. Maybe Sammy should fight him the next time we play to boost his physicality. HAHA! Somehow i missed this post the first time through.
Kp-Wings 3 Report post Posted November 13, 2007 I was extremely taken back by his fight last night. Not because it was all that great of a fight (which it really wasn't, because they both went down pretty quickly), but because he showed me something he hasn't shown me all season long: grit. It's about time he started playing like that. He's on the team to provide a physical presence, and maybe fight every once in a while, so that's what he needs to do. If he keeps it up, I won't ***** about him being in the lineup. I got nothing against the guy personally, it's just I saw no need for him to be in the lineup the way he was playing. If he keeps up the physical play, and drops 'em every once in a while, I'll be fine with him. Thank god for Patrick Sharp. He's made Lilja and Kopecky look like Bob Probert the last 2 yrs. Maybe Sammy should fight him the next time we play to boost his physicality. Jeez, tell me about it! I actually used to like Sharp, but he's become a real wimp. Good for him that's he's at least dropping thee gloves on occasion, but he's losing to some of the worst fighters in the league: our fighters! Pretty limited? He distributes the puck, he stands in front of the net, he shoots, he does it all. Kopecky is good at what he does, 4th line mucker. When have you become so generous to Kopecky? I seem to remember you, like all of us, pegging him as a bad hockey player and wanting Downey in the lineup instead. Did one fight already change your opinion? If so, shame on you. As I said: I'll have no problem with Kopecky if he keeps this up on a consistant basis. He still has to actually prove he can do that, though.

I seem to remember you, like all of us, pegging him as a bad hockey player and wanting Downey in the lineup instead. Did one fight already change your opinion? If so, shame on you. I really liked him at the start of last season. Then he got injured and became useless. Maybe he's gonna start playing well again. See Lilja last year, that fight agaisnt Moen had me a fan in seconds . And since then he's become pretty useless. i must be blind, ive never seen cleary do anything productive on any pp. He's got 2 powerplay goals, and couple of PP assists. Other then ZDH, he and Hudler have been our best powerplay guys.

SouthernWingsFan 854 Report post Posted November 13, 2007 Kopecky to me has never been pegged to be more than a 3rd liner this year anyways, so I don't really get how he was just completely sleeping to begin with. He's just been one of the unfortunate scapegoates in here who gets overdramatized criticism more often than not. He hasn't done a whole lot of things gloriously but it's not like he's been flat out terrible (see scapegoat reference again). I realize he was scratched for a game, but I think that can be attributed to Downey and Ellis playing very well, making the most of their limited chances earlier this season. Downey and Ellis has deserved some more PT I think, but they have not been so dominating that it warrants Kopecky sitting out 5-10 games straight when everybody is healthy. This situation is good for everybody, it creates a healthy competition for ice time for these three as well as Drake, because all of these guys have been playing very well recently.
