Matthias makes NHL debut tonight...

I loved Bertuzzi here. :-\

Geez O Petey, everybody, Bertuzzi at one time was absolutely dominant and nobody knew that better than Ken Holland and the Wings. The guy could be unstoppable at times. Sure he was a head case, but given the right atmosphere, etc., unlimited potential. How could you not make the trade.

Goshy, do ya think Naslund might miss laying with Bert just a little bit?

He was worth the gamble. TFB. Yes, of course its a bit painful that Mathias is now a stud, and Bertuzzi most likely a dud.

Hype, talk, talk and more talk.

Until he has any sucess in the NHL, I could care less. At the time, it was a good deal. Bertuzzi gave us something we didn have. A big mean goal scorer, if the Todd Bertuzzi playing for Anaheim the last 15 games was the one we got in the playoffs, none of you would care.

Good lord I cannot stand hindsight!

I don't get it, has he been playing good or bad? I think you mean to say he's been playing well. Yes?

Some of you are too funny. If you all are such great GM's why aren't you in the NHL? Heck if you can predict the future why aren't you playing the lotto? You go with a hunch to make your team better AT THAT TIME. sometimes it works out sometimes not. Why aren't you pissed that KH let Kozlov go? He's doing great too. Point is some, not all dwell way too much on old trades.

Pretty much stole most of my thunder as I am thinking along the same mode and had a detailed post, but I will post anyways...

I can bet at least 60, maybe 70 percent of the people in this forum were doing tumblesets for the entire evening when the Wings traded for Todd Bertuzzi, because people in here have moaned and complained since they were toddlers that the team didn't have enough size or a power forward. Probably higher than 70 percent. Bertuzzi still fit that mold to a certain extent even when he wasn't quite 100 percent.

I was excited when the Wings got him. And yes, I am aware of the whole "drama" of the Colorado-Vancouver incident or that Bertuzzi is a questionable hitter or whatever the junk may be that fans draw up (which I really do not want to talk about or debate as it's done and over with). I didn't care, I thought his good qualities far were better and trumpeted the "incident" and I thought overall he could help the Red Wings, hence me being happy to attain him.

Where was the moaning and complaining about this trade right after the trade deadline concluded? Didn't hear too many people whine about it then. You take chances to improve your team. Sometimes they don't work out. Sometimes they do (i.e. see Chelios trade). It's not like Holland gave up 15 minor leaguers or draft picks to get Bertuzzi. It's not like he signed an unproven player to a 12-year contract. Just 1 draft pick. ONE.

Good for Shawn Matthias for developing so well so far. What do you guys want him to do? Just stink up the joint to balance out the scales of this trade? Are you serious? And for the love of god nobody better tell me a soapbox waterworks rant about Holland having a personal vendetta being completely against power forwards or tough guys. There will be plenty more chances to find and/or develop big guys in the future.

Holland got us size at the trading deadline LIKE PEOPLE WERE CLAMORING FOR, and people still moan and complain. Unbelievable.

Given the same scenario(s) like last season around the trading deadline (BEFORE Bertuzzi underperformed overall in the playoffs), I would still have done this trade in a heartbeat, and I'm sorry again for assuming, but a lot of others in here probably would have as well.

If you predicted that this trade would end up in failure for the Red Wings around the time that it occurred and that Matthias would have "developed" this well this fast, I sure hope you can predict that I go on a date with Jessica Biel or win the lottery next month and become rich.

Add on at least 1 more goal to that total tonight. Things are definitely starting to come together for him as of late.

Maybe we should wait until Matthais actually does something at the NHL level before we anoint him some great player. It's one thing to dominant at the junior level when you're bigger than everyone else, it's quite another thing to dominant at the NHL level when everyone is your size or bigger.

Not to mention that Florida is going to overrate the HELL out of him for his entire career because they basically traded Luongo for Matthais and Allen.

Hindsight is 20/20. Further, I find it curious that people are typing out defamations of Holland here for giving away this prospect whilst at the same time talking about whom we should give up for Sundin at the deadline.

Hindsight, people.

Yeah guys don't get to upset over the deal. Matthias wouldn't have got a sniff of the Wings

roster for at least another 2 years , still you'll all forget about him when the next top prospect

makes his mark. (Dick Axelsson), this kid will make waves when he gets here!!

Wow, this kid plays one game for Florida and he's suddenly a stud? At the end of the day we still gave up virtually nothing for Bertuzzi. Calm down people, there is a long way to go before this trade turns in Alexei Yashin for Zdeno Chara and a 1st (Jason Spezza)

Bertuzzi- 17 pts in 17 games. 6 game point streak...

Matthias- 0 points in the young lads first game. He did get 2 min for hooking though.

Watching the game last night looks like Bert is semi-old form. He looked good. Oh and 2 g and an assist last night.

Todd is out to prove to people he can still play. He's found linemates in Getzlaf and Perry, and there gonna be a force.

Anaheim are coming on lately too, 3rd in the league.

Now that you mention it, Bertuzzi played his best in Vancouver with Morrison and Naslund, and now he's riding on another top line. I wonder how much of his credit should go to others, because the way Perry and Getzlaf are playing right now, a lot of guys could increase their stats playing with those two.

That trade definitely proves that even Kenny Holland can make dumb mistakes. Hopefully, the Wings don't ever make another trade like this again.

Hopefully that's sarcasm.

If not, that's a horrible way for a front office to think and thankfully the Wings don't think like that. Refusing to trade prospects (and in this case not even a high prospect) for proven talent can crippling to a team. Look at the Tigers. Seemed like for the last almost 20 years, whenever there was a trade, it was always compared to the Smoltz for Alexander trade. There's a lot of people who will tell you the Tigers got so scared of doing that again, they wouldn't make the trades they needed to.

Haha... poor matty already being compared to an NHL big gun in his first game because he was used as trade bait.

The only sucky thing about that deal was that Holland let bert walk the next season! Oh well I am still happy he played for a part of a season on the wings!

Agreed, I think Bert's going to be hot the rest of the year. I guess its no suprise that line would do so well, considering how the Getzlaf/Perry/Penner line worked well in the past. Penner and Bertuzzi are alot alike.
