FedorovGurl 2 Report post Posted February 3, 2008 You can't really compare what the Sens are going through with whats happening with the Ducks. I mean the Sens have lost many key players due to injuries which explains their slide ; Ducks are adding key players and are flailing which explains _ _ _ ???? Detroit # 1 Fan 2,204 Report post Posted February 3, 2008 It's not a guarantee that they make the playoffs anyways. Most people believe they will because there the big scary Ducks, but they could as easily miss the playoffs as make them. Plus, I dont see them making it past the 2nd round if they dont get home ice (which they wont, Dallas and San Jose will be battling it out for the Pacific division lead)
Wing Across The Pond 196 Report post Posted February 3, 2008 Seeing this has just made my season... I mean sure I always notice when they lose (its one of the results I look out for) but I never actually realised how poorly they were doing. Have to admit though they'll still make the playoffs and thats where they're at their best. But this poor run is good news for me, a fan in England with a population of ice hockey fans who all seem to support the Ducks because of the Disney films (although the kids seem to play better than the actual team). Just thought I'd get that little rant off my chest.
akustyk 84 Report post Posted February 3, 2008 unfortunately, they may get back into shape and advance to playoffs. I'd love to see this bunch of goons gone golfing in April together with their ever-whining cheating GM and all TSN/ESPN stuff who kiss Niedermayer and Pronger dirty ass. that's not likely to happen, though. I'll keep my fingers crossed anyway and enjoy every game those thugs loose
Sevumar 0 Report post Posted February 3, 2008 As much as I dislike the Ducks, I sympathize with Duck Guy's plight. It sucks to see your favorite team lose, no matter who they are. On top of all that, he manages to like and respect the Wings. He usually keeps his cool even with all the Duck bashing that happens here.

They could have the worst record in the league and people will still say that they will be playing us in the WCF. Come on people, look at the facts! How can you dismiss the fact that they can't score any goals? LAST of 30 teams. Or the fact that they just dropped 6 in a row and sucked doing it? Or that Giggy is playing like crap and they traded away their lost Bryz. Or that Selanne is comming back but his line-mate frome last year McDonald is gone? Or that they lost Penner? How many teams make the playoffs when they give up more goals than they score? Theirs only 25 games left. They are not going to play the last 25 like champs when they played the first 57 like a non-playoff team. Wake up. This is not a good hockey team. Why is everybody so in awe of these goons? chrisdetroit 189 Report post Posted February 3, 2008 Did your mom tell you not to speak of things you hope don't come back to haunt you? We have a 5 game WEST COAST trip coming. So I'll wait until after then to make a comment here. There's a huge difference. We could lose all 5 and still win the President's Trophy. We are not fighting to make the playoffs, the Duckies are. But then if we lost all 5 that would drop our record to 40-15-4. In fact we could just bring up all the GRG guys and let our top guys rest.
Kp-Wings 3 Report post Posted February 3, 2008 As usual, everyones knee-jerk reaction on this forum suggests they will be out of the playoffs. While it would definitly be nice to not have to deal with the Ducks (because they are a huge threat to the Wings, in my opinion), they will still make the playoffs. Maybe if they go on a 15-20 game losing streak, then talking about their downfall would make a little more sense, but 6 games is a little premature. It's still a tossup who will win that division anyways. I'll be very surprised to see San Jose win it, because they are the most overated team in the league since the 2005-2006 Ottawa Senators. It'll either be Dallas or Anaheim who take that division, and I bet it'll be Anaheim.

SouthernWingsFan 854 Report post Posted February 3, 2008 It just is mind bending that no mater how much they are sucking, that people on here still think that they will come back strong. Step away from the computer, sit down on the couch, calm down and breathe for a few minutes... People think they could come back strong because (1) they are the defending Cup champs so we know they have what it takes and (2) the last time I checked, they are still one of the top-8 seeds right now. They could have the worst record in the league and people will still say that they will be playing us in the WCF. Come on people, look at the facts! Nobody is being overdramatic saying they are having the worst record in the league. Again, they are the defending Cup champs so it is a bit silly to be close to dismissing them from the playoffs all together. Because every team, I don't care who you are, goes through losing streaks and snags. Again, defending Cup champs so they know what it takes mentally to rebound from this rut. How many teams make the playoffs when they give up more goals than they score? I don't know and don't really care that badly to look it up when we all know the Ducks are capable of making the playoffs still. Theirs only 25 games left. They are not going to play the last 25 like champs when they played the first 57 like a non-playoff team. How do you know? You have one of those Magic 8 Balls as well that accurately predicts everything? Wake up. This is not a good hockey team. Why is everybody so in awe of these goons? I've been awake since 7:30 this morning actually. Nobody is being overdramatic saying we are in awe of the Ducks, again I will state we know they are far from done and have what it takes to make the playoffs. I'd like to know what your definition of a good hockey team, as well as a bad hockey team is.
edicius 3,269 Report post Posted February 3, 2008 Imagine this, though...if they win/lose games at the same rate as all the teams below them within striking distance (which means all but three) and those teams win all their games in hand, the Ducks end up in 12th place at BEST. I didn't really with take into account that the Sens have had injuries, especially to their top line. I think I just categorized them together because those two teams scare me the most out of the NHL.
Guest Crymson Report post Posted February 4, 2008 (edited) Gee, that makes me so sad... Cry me a river. Being the dirtiest team in the league, they deserve this. FG makes a good point: the Ducks have been going downhill whilst GAINING roster players. Odd. Edited February 4, 2008 by Crymson

If you estimate they need 94 points to make the playoffs, they need to go on a .635 point pace. Which is better than they've played since Niedermayer returned (.614). It is not a given the Ducks make the playoffs.

You can say all you want about the talent on the Ducks roster, but the numbers don't lie - they're going to have to go on a MAJOR tear for the rest of the season to make the playoffs and avoid the same letdown as the 1995-96 Devils. Rice 42 Report post Posted February 5, 2008 According to this site, the Ducks have a 45% chance of making the playoffs. A lot of their fans on HFBoards are already counting them out. I have a hard time believing they won't make it, but you never know. There will be a lot of pressure on them and who knows how well Selanne will perform without MacDonald? Plus, he hasn't played since June.

Feldmarschall 9 Report post Posted February 5, 2008 Losing games and adding players - Burke's cardinal mistake was interfering with the team's chemistry. Some of it was unavoidable. Some was. Either way, this is not the same Ducks squad that beat us last year, and it's showing in a negative way right now. Will it be the same a couple months from now? Who knows. But they are in a bad position, and I personally hope it continues.

That's not something I would look forward to... I know. I kinda want to have to go through them. I remember watching one of my DVD's, and I believe (dont quote me) that Shanny said they had to go through the Champs to get the the finals. (being the Av's at the time) And while they are obviosuyl a scary team to face, it would be that much sweeter if we could eliminate them.

Meanwhile, if the Ducks don't play at least .600 hockey the rest of the way, they're almost certainly out.
