Who would you take, solid 2nd liner, or Dman.

With some of the names going around in regard to solid offensive players, and defenseman. Which one would you want to jump on. Do things change now with Blake out for 2-3 weeks with busted ankle before he can start to rehab it. What do you think?

If I could only choose one, of course I'd pick the scoring 2nd liner over a physical 5th or 6th defenseman. We're already somewhat loaded on defense. We're not really loaded at forward, since other than our 1st line, all the other scorers are too streaky to rely on.

If last year was any indication, its that defensive depth is key. Look at how deep Anaheim was on defense..look at what happened when we went down a Dman. There are only 6 Dman, and people I think somehow forget that defenseman can contribute to offense too.

Ideally, if I could only choose one, it would be a physical Dman with offensive abilities.

Dead on. We need some dependable scoring. The defense is already far and away the best in the league. The second-level scoring is dependent on guys who still don't have that much experience. A good, steady, experienced 2nd-3rd line type is what the Wings need most.

Dman... because a single dman will have a bigger impact than a single forward imo. Meech isn't held in high enough regard here to hold as 7th D in the playoffs. Quincey's an option too, but hasn't played in the NHL this season yet.

A single forward may better them scoring wise, but it isn't 100% that the streakiness in scoring will end.

I want Kubina or Pitkanen.

Kubina would be a great pickup and would do very well as a support player in Detroit's system. Pitkanen has all the tools to be an very solid blueliner, is very good with the puck, and is physical. If we can get Kubina for a reasonable trade and find a way to fit him under the cap for the next few seasons, that would be great. I would probably be more ready to give up a decent prospect for Pitkanen, as he is young and damn good. Kubina could probably be had fairly inexpensively; he's having a solid season for the first time since joining the Leafs, but the organization and fans are so sick of him they will likely look to move his 5m by the deadline for whatever they can get.

I would hope that Meech/Quincey, McGrath/Emmerton, and a 3rd-4th round pick should be able to get either of those guys.

I would like a big strong defenseman who does not get injured easily, so that we do not have a repeat of last year. Losing again to Anaheim because of injuries would be too much to bear.

Florida's back in the playoff race, they won't be moving him. (Not that they would've, anyways)

Apparently, Jacques Martin won't return phone calls pertaining to Jokinen.

Too bad he didn't have the same policy with Bertuzzi. It would have done us a great favor.

I don't doubt that Toronto would like to get rid of a lot of contracts right now. Kubina is likely not among the first but as you say he'd still come relatively cheap and Detroit has the cap-space for him this season and the next. By then who knows how far the cap has gone up? I wouldn't mind picking this guy up.

Kubina has played well, but I would love to move his contract.

He has a limited no-trade clause, and I have no idea if Detroit is among the teams he can be traded to. The only one I know for sure that is on his list is Tampa.

I'd hope Fletch would trade him to Tampa, because I dont want his overpaid ass on my favorite team. And I want him off of TO, I feel bad for everyone in TO that has to watch him night in and night out.

His play is underrated. I haven't had many complaints about him.
