sputman 1,268 Report post Posted March 7, 2008 According to the SI Players NHL Poll, based on a survey of 365 NHL players. Montreal Canadiens - 35% Minnesota Wild - 13% Calgary Flames - 11% Vancouver Canucks - 6% Edmonton Oilers - 6% Fast Facts: Players could not vote for their own teams...Aside from the Wild, the San Jose Sharks (5%) got the most votes among U.S. teams. hmmmmm. whenever i watch non-wings games, i don't recall seeing very many wild and shark jerseys scattered about the arena. i do, however, always see a spattering of wings fans in every city. i live near raleigh and go to games every month and i ALWAYS see a huge group of wings fans, even when the 'canes aren't playing them. that, to me, is very telling about which team's fans are the "best." discuss... Never_Retire_Steve 35 Report post Posted March 7, 2008 Habs for sure, they know the most about hockey and how to affect change if their team is not doing well.

eva unit zero 271 Report post Posted March 7, 2008 im surprised the sabres arent on there Why? Because Sabres fans can be loud? The Sabres have always had attendance problems until last year. In other words, the Sabres have historically always had trouble getting fans in the stands unless they are on top of the league.

RedArmy 4 Report post Posted March 7, 2008 I live in NYC and ranger tickets are almost impossible to get. They are always sold out, but it is NYC though... Isles fans are pretty crazy in Long Island. I have seen them throw plastic beer bottles at Tucker and Cujo back when they had a playoff series a few years ago:) I also seen a Canadian and Maple leaf flag get taken away from leafs fans and burned in the parking lot and a bottle get thrown at a leaf fan walking towards the collesium. I would say u see a lot of Ranger jersey too around the league when Rangers travel... I agree though there are lot of wings fans at away games I am surprised the team name is not up there. I live in NYC and have been at lot of isles devils and ranger games against wings and there are always a lot of fans...
wingslogo19 281 Report post Posted March 7, 2008 I would say the Habs as well. But I'am surprised that the Canucks are only at 6, that's a hot ticket in that town
Redwingsfan18 1 Report post Posted March 7, 2008 Only thing about Wings fans and I know this is what the players are thinking... WE SIT ON OUR HANDS AT THE GAMES! Seriously, when the play is going on, unless a goal is scored or there is a fight, you can sometimes hear a pin drop. A lot of other places, the fans are loud for long periods of time. The problem is that the prices are too high for younger people and families to afford to go more then once or twice. If the games were priced like Tigers games, I'd definitely go to more. And more young people leads to louder arenas. Compared to more people who barely get out of their seats when the Wings score.
auxlepli 17 Report post Posted March 7, 2008 Voted Toronto. Leafs haven't won a Cup in nearly 42 years yet they still sell-out the ACC on regular basis. Plus they have a very good road draw too.
Never_Retire_Steve 35 Report post Posted March 7, 2008 I would love to see complete list
tommingthepuck96 1 Report post Posted March 7, 2008 (edited) Leafs have been doing so bad yet soo many fans stay loyal. I'd also say buffalo only based on the fact that ive seen numerous fans in san diego with "go sabres" licence plates. Pretty rare thing too see here. #19=Legend 29 Report post Posted March 7, 2008 Id say that is a pretty legit list. The wings do have the most widespread fan base tho. You see so many wings jerseys in the stands on road games. And they sometimes get the Lets Go Red Wings chant going in the other teams arena.
lfd250 1 Report post Posted March 7, 2008 I"m calling BS. Detroits TRUE fans aren't at the game. Corp owns the lower bowl keeping the fans away.

akustyk 84 Report post Posted March 7, 2008 yeah, I'm surprised with Canucks, too. they have definitely very passionate and proactive fans who love to follow hockey and show their support. they might not be above Canadiens fans but still rank high in my chart. definitely closer to #2 than #6. not surprised about Wings fans missing here
DenJ91 0 Report post Posted March 7, 2008 I"m calling BS. Detroits TRUE fans aren't at the game. Corp owns the lower bowl keeping the fans away. you could say that about just about every team, most games are filled by company people who are they to socialize and eat and aren't neccesarily there for the game. i'm in philly and as a fan of other teams, i used to be scared even as a young kid going to the old spectrum to route against the flyers in another team's jersey. now i could be wearing a wings jersey and no one says a word, and the arena is pretty quiet. i would say in most cases, the biggest of fans aren't at the games, they prefer to stay at home, save their money and watch on tv every night. i would think that list is pretty accurate though but it doesn't really say what they are basing it on, knowledge or loudness etc. detroit better do something or it shouldn't be called hockeytown anymore. it should probably go to the wild fans in st. paul. we need to have more octopi thrown. does the joe even drop the big purple octopus from the ceiling anymore or just in the playoffs? egroen 384 Report post Posted March 7, 2008 Yup, the Joe has become very tame. I am a rabid fan but the idea of spending $200 on my family for a game is too much. That said, I am always impressed with all the displaced Michiganders showing up in droves at away games... more so than any other team I bet. So -- Red Wings have a huge fanbase, great fans -- they just are not at the Joe.
toby91_ca 620 Report post Posted March 7, 2008 im surprised the sabres arent on there I would guess that a lot of the fans going to games in Buffalo are actually Leaf fans who can't get tickets in Toronto.
imisssergei 0 Report post Posted March 8, 2008 You know that list is a bunch of BS when Toronto isn't on it. Leafs tickets are the hardest ticket to get in sports. If the Leafs were to make it to the SCF, those tickets would be harder to get than tickets to any Super Bowl EVER. No teams fans live and die with their club like Toronto's do. This is very true; I have been to 2 games in Toronto. One at old Maple Leaf Gardens & the other at Air Canada Center. Their fans are great, I would put them at NO# 2 on the list. I agree with Montreal at NO# 1, it is such a great city and a fantastic place to watch a game. The atmosphere is so different and their fans are great to talk to. I recommend anyone go there to watch a game, you will have a great time.
Kp-Wings 3 Report post Posted March 8, 2008 I voted Montreal. They are loud, passionate, and some of the best fans in the game.
