LeftWinger 5,135 Report post Posted July 9, 2008 Its definately going to be Zetterberg the minute Lidstrom retires, Pav and Hank would both be great, but tie goes to the guy who speak most better english words mixing. ON A SIDENOTE: LeftWinger, why let Filpulla go? Just curious ....reply to sidenote: That was back when the rumors were flying around that Vancouver was going to offer Filpulla a contract worth $4 to $4.5 and the discussion went on about getting the draft picks and possibly if Vancouver would draw the lottery and get the #1 pick, that would've been Tavares. But really I don't want Filpulla to go anywhere, but if he was going to sign an offer worth that much, we'd rather have the draft picks...

Guest Dump-N-Thump Report post Posted July 9, 2008 Draper.. He is what this team is built on.. Work Ethic, Heart, Skill.. He's been here forever. He's taken a broken cheek, nose, collerbone, torn up legs, consussions for the wings, I'd be great to see him get the C even if it is for one or two years.. I think he will outlast Lids btw. Holmstrom96Screens 0 Report post Posted July 10, 2008 (edited) Zetterberg is the most likely candidate for the C after Liddy. I'll aslso name a few who I also think would be nice candidates. Cleary, Franzen, and I'll pick Rafalski cause he seems like he has leadership skills as well. Pasha Datsyuk should wear an A. (oh wait he does. LOL. But I mean he should continue to wear it even after Liddy's reign is over.) He's a good alternate captain. Edited July 10, 2008 by Holmstrom96Screens

Yzerman191 37 Report post Posted July 10, 2008 I'd say Zetterberg. Datsyuk would be an equally good choice, I just think Zetterberg is more likely. On another note (didn't feel like making another topic for a similar post), how many more years does Lidstrom have in the tank? I think he could play a lot longer (IE Chelios), but Lidstrom comes off as a player who would rather retire than slowly deteriorate. Any thoughts?
RainingBlood 8 Report post Posted July 10, 2008 Zetterberg will wear it Datsyuk dosent seem very vocal.
LidsFan 68 Report post Posted July 10, 2008 I think that either Hank or Pavel would be a great Captain, but I feel that Pavel would be uncomfortable with all of the extra interviews he would have to do as Captain since he seems to struggle so much with his english. It is going to be a sad day when Lidstrom retires, so I try not to think about it.

miller76 463 Report post Posted July 10, 2008 Zetterberg is the no brainer of course. Even though Datsyuk is qualified, is as well is Draper. But if those follow through, Sammy 'the sniper' is always an option. lol

T.Low 1,011 Report post Posted July 10, 2008 (edited) The problem with making Dats the next Captain is that half the team won't understand him. Dats: Guys, everyone jump in, puck net, skate score! Ask later who we beat! This supply of emoticons cannot begin to express how hard I laughed at that!!! Edited July 10, 2008 by T.Low
T.Low 1,011 Report post Posted July 10, 2008 Oh, and I vote for Chelios to wear the C when Lidstrom finally retires.
55fan 5,133 Report post Posted July 10, 2008 (edited) I believe the rules forbid co-captains, so that lets out Sammy/Lilja. Draper would make a good Captain, but as said earlier, he won't be too far behind Lids getting his pension. Cheli only has a decade or so left to play, so no point in giving it to him. Can't give it to a goalie. Don't want to foist it on one of the kids before they're ready. I'll join the majority in giving it to Hank, although I agree that Pavel and Raf have good leadership potential. After Drapes and Lids are retired, I see Hank as C; Pavel and Raf as A. Maybe add one of the younger ones who proves his worth to a rotating A to get him trained in for when Raf retires. Edited July 10, 2008 by 55fan
Namingway 146 Report post Posted July 12, 2008 Zata for sure. I can see him being more of a leader type than Dats. He seems more vocal and likely be able to push the team more. I think if Dats were to be the captain then we might have the same problem the Sens had in their early playoff exit with Alfredsson.

Stu in Israel 0 Report post Posted July 13, 2008 I don't know why I'm responding to this post seeing as it has as much significance as the Middle Ages discussion of "How many angels can stand on the head of a pin?!" Nevertheless, for the 3rd time I'm telling this story: When Henrik Zetterberg arrived in Detroit, Niklas Lidstrom met him at the airport, he had dinner and slept at Lidstrom's house, and the next morning when Lidstrom took him to the Wings' dressing room he said, "Here's the next Steve Yzerman." Furthermore, Zetterberg's original locker was changed to one next to Yzerman. Does that give you a clue as to who will wear the "C" next?!

I had never heard this, but it fuels what I've always believed: that Hank was being groomed to be the next captain of the Detroit Red Wings.
