Blackhawks' Brian Campbell: "Gutless"

Rate this topic

Recommended Posts

Perhaps Havlat would have been less injured if the Blackhawks would have been less interested in shoving Kronwall down to the ice on top of him and starting s*** while the guy is laying there trying to remember whether today is October or not. My biggest fear was the guy was gonna get his face stepped on. Just food for thought. Anyway, I hope the Blackhawks go out of their way to hit people today, because they don't know how to do that and still maintain their discipline.

From Saturday's Toronto Star, we have this:

Niklas Kronwall got five and a game misconduct, tossed for an elbow – called interference – into Martin Havlat's face. Helped off the ice, Havlat did not return.

From today's Toronto Star, we have a retraction (sort of):

Only under the most picayunely literal interpretation of rules can the thumping Kronwall laid on Havlat in Game 3 of the Western Conference final be considered interference. An elbow, maybe, or at least perceived that way in the blur of action – though replays show Kronwall had his hinge down, forearm striking Havlat in the head.

plus this great observation by the reporter, on what really is "gutless":

The most "gutless" component here, in fact, is the league's refusal to either back up O'Halloran or concede an error in judgment – which should be no crime in sports.

Campbell is a ***** and a bold-faced liar. His quote when comparing his hit to Umberger to Kronwall's hit:

"I think it's totally two different hits," said Campbell. "One where a shoulder is down, hitting him with your shoulder like how you're supposed to check; and another one where a guy explodes, jumps, [the other] guy doesn't have the puck, and uses his fists and forearms to finish the deal off. To me, it's two totally different things. And he's a guy that does it all the time and should be punished for it."

I hope Kronwall knocks his ass out too.

Campbell was so biased and came across as so sniveling during his interviews, its was pathetic. I'd like to think the guy hasn't seen the hit and was reading it on some Hawks forum, but the sad thing is, he wants to believe Kronwalls check was the dirtiest thing in the world so bad and that his hit on Umberger two years ago was just good clean hockey.

Never liked Campbell, his little spin-o-rama he whips out twice a game, always seemed whiny, and now there is no doubt. "You can't do that! I'm the bestest hitter, I hit right. He was swinging two sticks and four of his monster fists, he was 11 feet tall and it was intermission when he hit my teammate, he's a bad hitter."

Well, now at least I have a player on the Hawks that I genuinely dislike.

Had he played against Vladdy, he probably would have called him gutless too. Scott Stevens. as well.

Don't you have to actually know the game of hockey to play? Someone should ask that of Campbell.

taking it to the media is gutless by cambell... he should get his ass pounded today... HOPEFULLY laid flat on a stretcher by a nice Gut wrenching Kronwall hit. Scratch that no stretcher... allow him to get up after 10mins on the ice to come back out to get hit again by kronwall :D

Cambells a *****... mark it

Okay - Okay, so after several replays in slow-mo, lets give them the interference penalty since Havlet didn't technically touch the puck. That's only a 2 minute penalty, not 5 minutes.

Kronwall should have served 2 minutes in the box at best. Not a 5 minutes PK and ejected from the game. Hawks got the calls in game 3. Hopefully game 4 will be called right. Let them play!!!!!

I disagree, the puck was right there and I've seen Kronner do a heck of a lot worse with no call at all. That was a clean hit, Campbell can cram it. Cambell would've done the same thing if positions were reversed, so he needs to quit being a hypocrite.

On the other hand though I don't like that Havlat is hurt, I don't like to see that generally and Marty's a decent guy and not someone I'd like to see out of the game. I hope he gets well soon, in my book he's one of the more exciting guys from Chicago to watch my team play against.

Wow... I used to like Campbell too but jiminy crickets he's acting like a baby and defending his hit on Umbarger while lambasting Kronwall is total hipocrisy. Whatev... he's going to turn the puck over some more...

Wow, even Brooksie said it was clean. I'm in shock, I thought he'd be calling him gutless too!

I read another article earlier where even "the next Great One" himself indicated that it was a clean hit...

I bet if Campbell wasn't currently playing on the Blackhawks he probably wouldn't thnik the hit was as bad. Of course he's going to be biased towards that way though since he's currently on the team. Should we have expected otherwise? We've seen Krownall lay out people much harder, and/or off of his feet without anybody causing a s**t storm about it. This was a lesser hit.

If thats what he thinks then he should have been suspended on his hit on Umberger a few years ago when he was with Buffalo.

exactly! campbell should just sit his ass down and youtube his own hits. everytime a red wing throws a hit they're gutless. same ol' same ol'... but by all means, other teams can cheap shot the wings all they want.

When Wings play finesse hockey without all the big hits, they are soft. When Wings play hard and make their hits, they are "gutless". funny how that works...

I hate the redwings more than anything in the world but do not have a problem with Kronwall's hit this time. A lot of his other hits I have seen him make have been questionable (ie. leaving his feet), but Chicago should suck it up and try to not focus on revenge as that plays right into the Wing's hands.

Campbell needs to shut his ginger ass up.

Keith just had a deleberaite intent to injure on leino. I wish the refs didnt throw game 3 for more ratings, sop we could just weep this joke of a team and be done with them.

The game aren't even exciting.

and might I add one more thing? Watch the way that Havlat skates. He skates with his head down! He got killed by Kronner the first time and got knocked unconscious. Kronner hit him AGAIN in today's game, and the reason is: Havlat wasn't watching where he was going. Skate with your head up, and you don't get killed. simple hockey.

Havsplat needs to keep his head up.

Campbell needs to keep his mouth shut.

The Hawks need to get some discipline in their game.

Of the three, I think the first is most important because as much as I want the Wings to win, I do not like seeing serious injuries no matter whose team a guy is on.

Havlat should not have been on the ice - even Wednesday would have been too soon. I know they are trying to reach the finals but the guys career could have been ended tonight if Stu had gotten a better piece of him.
