stevie12 5 Report post Posted July 14, 2009 Just a speculation on this one but Eklund from HockeyBuzz had suggested that Hudler's departure may have made room for Sundin to sign a reduced one year deal. After we trade a d-man we would have around 2.75-3 million for a one year deal. Wouldn't mind seeing him in the winged wheel. Surrounded by play makers I think he could be a key component to this club. Let me know what you guys think. We lost Sammy, may as well add a Swede! lol I doubt he'd sign for 2.75 million but you never know!
mjlegend 155 Report post Posted July 14, 2009 No thanks. He skated like he was carrying a piano on his back for most of his comeback. Save the cap room for the deadline, pls.
GoalieManPat 1,007 Report post Posted July 14, 2009 No thanks. The guy proved last year he is for the money as opposed to winning.
Winger19 4 Report post Posted July 14, 2009 With all due respect, once he gained his stride he was good for a point per game during the playoffs, and arguably had his best game game 6 vs. chicago. If he makes the decision to go to training camp and play the whole year, he could still be an impact player and i would say yes.

gcom007 1,465 Report post Posted July 14, 2009 I was expecting rumors about this to start popping up at some point. I'm indifferent. I doubt it will happen but I don't know how it would go if it did. It'd be a gamblers move to some extent. If I was Holland, I'd like to know that I've got a healthy Lilja for next year before I sign a forward with all of our remaining cap space. Guest Hatethedrake! Report post Posted July 14, 2009 (edited) Sundin is still an excellent player. If he has a full training camp and is in hockey shape, he is perfect for the Red Wings. However I have seen nothing in the media to think that Sundin even wants to come to Detroit. I've lost count how many times he has turned Holland down. If Eklund is saying it is a possibility then it pretty much guarantees that Sundin will not be a Red Wing. He will most likely re-sign for a cheaper salary with the Canucks. Perhaps the best thing for Holland to do right now is to save the Cap space for the trade deadline. The options there will be much better than they are right now. It's pretty sad when Blair Betts and Mike Grier are 2 of our best options. Holland recently signed scrubs Jeremy Williams and Kris Newbury for dirt cheap deals. Maybe they both play during the season on the 4th line with Draper and Maltby and then we can get a couple of REAL players who can actually help us at the deadline. I mean it is not as if the 4th line will be getting alot of minutes anyway. Edited July 14, 2009 by Hatethedrake!

If he makes the decision to go to training camp and play the whole year, he could still be an impact player and i would say yes. Agreed! No doubt the guy wants a cup and we have many swedes here waiting for him! I have always liked Sundin and he was a great role model and captian for Toronto. With that said he loves the game and when you get older in your career some tend to bounce around looking for a championship and i dont blame him. Athletes who are of total class are very RARE.. Reggie Miller fits the bill of a true class act and so does Yzerman! But sometimes these legends get a bit selfish and want a championship so like Hasek, Bourque, Sundin, Karl malone even and so on they want a ring man! Brett Favre who i still love not long ago was a loyal class act and you know what? I wanna see him still play cause he is the last of a dieing breed!
