We certainly weren't perfect, but we managed to grind out a win, and I think we can all agree that at the end of the day, that's really all that matters. Beyond that, I think there were times when we skated like our old selves, and that's definitely encouraging.

Positives:

+ Lids got his 1000th point. Hooray for the greatest Swede ever.

+ Hank finally notched his first goal of the season and skated well.

+ Abby managed to pick up his first career point in the regular season.

+ The chemistry between Leino and Flip was once again on display.

+ Bertuzzi is skating well and working hard at both ends of the rink.

+ Once again, Ozzie gave us a chance to win. 2 GA on 26 shots, .923 SV%.

LET'S GO WINGS!! :siren:

Honestly, it looked like Hank was skating in cement for most of the game. He got his feet moving a little in the third but I can't say I was impressed. The goal was a great execution play between him and Nick (and probably more than a little luck to lob perfectly into the top corner), but I'm still waiting for Hank to be Hank.

Remarkably, for all that, he's still got 7 points in 6 games.

V. Filppula C Shifts:28 TOI 22:32 PP4:08 SH2:13 EV16:11 FOW12 FOL 7 FOP 63.0

And he was a +1. Most shifts of any player tonight, 3rd in TOI behind Raf and Lids.

A lot better than we've been playing lately, hopefully we can do the same thing to the Avs on Saturday.

I've said it many times, I'll say it again. Maltby can score goals. He's been underrated and poorly used under Babcock, but the guy can contribute far more than he has if given the opportunity. It's good to see him getting off to a quick start this year. If Drapes finishes out his contract which he probably will, you can be sure Maltby will re-up for one more year if he can put up 10-15 goals this year.

Holmstrom: I love the guy and wish him the best, but I can't help but think we're seeing his season peak right now. He always starts off great, then gets injured, comes back slow, gets injured again, comes back slower, gets injured again, and so on...then the playoffs start and he's still beat up and basically is useless out there. If I had a say, Holmstrom would be taking a LOT of nights off this season...

Thanks, Jollymania for putting this vid on here. We just got back from the Austin Stars/Griffins' game, and I'm tearing up looking at the Great and Wondrous Lids get all that noise and praise heaped upon hisself. It's been fun reading the posts here, knowing how the Wings' game ended and seeing what you all had to say about how it went. I recorded it so I'll probably fall asleep tonight watching it. :)

The Griffins lost in about the last five minutes of the game, 2-0 (empty net goal), but they played pretty well in spite of five penalty calls against them while there was one matching one for the Stars...Hmmmm.

Oh yeah. I was looking for Tatar but he wasn't on the ice. I hope he's not seriously injured.

Anyways, thanks again, Jolly.

It still is.

We're currently on pace for 82, which is nowhere near the playoffs.

wow, probably the most pessimistic comment all right... unless he was being sarcastic, which i doubt

wings looked good tonight... everybody contributed and were skating really well... Good job Wings!

Just a quick point, not trying to get our boys any ghost points, but Raffi's empty netter is listed as un-assissted. Yet I could have sworn Big E passed to Zetta who then put Raffi away with a slick pass for the goal. Surley these 2 will be credited assists when the game is looked at by the NHL.

Sorry all....I hadn't read this when I started a new thread.

Not so sure. It didn't look like he touched the puck before Malts shot it.

Yeah I think it was just one certain angle that made it look like Z poked the puck to Malts. But he should atleast be credited for Raffi's goal.

I was at the game last night and it was great to see Lidstrom get his 1000th pt. in person. The team was totally flat during the first peroid, they looked similar to where they left off against Buffalo but obviously they got it together about 1/2 way through the 2nd peroid. Stuart played a good game a Bertuzzi continues to hussle but he's still not creating many chances, I think he's getting there though.

I don't know what people are complaining about... The Wings still won 3 of the past 4 games!!!

They like to hear themselves talk, thinking they are oh, so very prophetic with their forecasts of doom and gloom. Like anybody can predict the future. On topic: the boys woke up and had a real good game. I knew it would happen sooner or later. Just glad it was sooner.

One thing really cracked me up in the third.

Lidstrom laid a hit, and one of the Kings got a bit on the mouthy side, looked like he wanted to fight. Bertuzzi just skated over, and glared at the guy. I'm thinking Bert's fitting in just fine. :D

I admit I was against the Bertuzzi signing, but so far, he's really impressed me. 2 penalty minutes in five games, 2 points. I'm not dumb enough to claim he'll score 35 points with 35 PIM, but who knows? He may be back.
