rage 24 Report post Posted January 6, 2010 But is Holmer going to resign? If so, for how much? There's no hope for you my friend!
Guest zackmorris Report post Posted January 6, 2010 Omg...who the hell cares if there is an L in it or not. It's the same pronunciation with the same idea in mind. Would Holmstrom even care this much? For all we know, the Holmer thing is right and we just think our little LGW forum is the entire world when it's really not. Guest zackmorris Report post Posted January 6, 2010 lol We just need to get over ourselves a little. We're the forum that wanted to trade half of the stars on the roster for bums at one point or another.

Doc Holliday 1,888 Report post Posted January 6, 2010 I think we should start calling Holmstrom Homestrom just to spite Miller Brew. Who's with me?

I hate to take a dump all over your grasp of the English language, but if there's an L in a word, it doesn't sound the same as if there's not.

Miller Brew 0 Report post Posted January 7, 2010 I hope Holmer stays here for a couple more years. I can't imagine the Red Wings team without a Holmer pissing off goaltenders and defensemen.

Zetts 236 Report post Posted January 7, 2010 Well as long as this thread's gone to the crapper anyways... I think we should start calling Holmstrom "Ryan", as a tribute to Jake Ryan. It's even shorter to type. And we need a nickname like this after Rex's departure.
T-Ruff 47 Report post Posted January 7, 2010 (edited) Didn't Tomas H. rather strongly imply at the beginning of the season that this would be his last? I had been under that impression, remember reading it somewhere... Edited January 7, 2010 by T-Ruff
Zetts 236 Report post Posted January 7, 2010 Didn't Tomas H. rather strongly imply at the beginning of the season that this would be his last? I had been under that impression, remember reading it somewhere... I think it was more a thing that was contingent on health, I don't recall him ever explicitly saying he'd retire. But I could be wrong.
Guest zackmorris Report post Posted January 7, 2010 (edited) I hate to take a dump all over your grasp of the English language, but if there's an L in a word, it doesn't sound the same as if there's not. Every time I read a reply from you, it's basically a cry for attention. If you need to argue so bad join a damn debate club. When it's uttered from the mouths of most people speaking the word, you barely notice if there's an L or not. At least not enough to justify this type of discussion, which was the point. Phonetically it'd may as well be Homestrom, but who cares. Edited January 7, 2010 by zackmorris
13dangledangle 968 Report post Posted January 7, 2010 First of all I started reading replys on page 1 and saw mostly Homer/Holmer talk. Then I skip to page 5 and it's the same thing lol LGW is ******* epic! However I came to this thread to discuss next season-Holland re-signing guys and such, I didn't want to start a new thread|. I think that if they do resign Tomas H. it should be to 1 year deals and have him on the pp and a filler, not a full time line 1 or 2 guy. I think we need to bring up Abby full time along with Janik and Ritola and send some people packing (Malts-sorry, Jwilly, Lebda and Meech) and see what Lids will sign for then make one big pick up(offensive). And does anyone the chances of Huds coming back next year, I miss that guy!!

I also think that a healthy Franzen would soften the blow of a retiring Holmstrom...

T.Low 1,011 Report post Posted January 7, 2010 I'd think they'd offer "Holmer" a 1 or 2 year deal. He has a specific role on the first line (at which he is undeniably the best in the league) which results in him being a great $ value and makes it a heck of a lot easier to move the talent down into 2nd and 3rd lines. The Canadian Nicknaming system commonly cuts the last name off at the end of the first syllable and adds an "er" to the end of it, when applicable. Holmstrom - strom + er = Holmer. In the case that the player's name already ends in an "er" or a "y", or something alse that wouldn't work with an "er", the last syllable is dropped , and "s" or "y" is added as needed. Draper = Drapes Maltby= Malts Datsyuk = Dats Garth Butcher= Butchy When the player's last name is already only one syllable, the appropriate addition is often obvious. Helm = Helmer Bret Hull = Hully It's pretty simple, but effective. I'd think with so many f you living so close to the Candian border (as have I all my life one way or another) would know this. Actually, Bret Hull's mom Joanne filled me in on the details after she refferred to my buddy Garth Butcher as Butchy. And life suddenly became so clear to me. But call him Homer is you want, and always chant "In the crease...out of the crease...in the crease...out of the crease" in the back of your mind while you do. Miller Brew 0 Report post Posted January 8, 2010 Not to Holland. He knows what he's getting from Holmer, production wise. I'm sure they'll take into account his past/career injuries and average it out. I would think anyhow.
