Trade Draper

That's Draper off the Helm-Eaves-Draper line, the line that has been our best and most consistent this season? That Draper?

6 goals, 10 assists, -1, 52% on faceoffs. The vocal veteran leader in the locker room. The guy with 4 Stanley Cups and a Selke who's grooming Helm. That Kris Draper?

...Yeah, I'm not in favor of trading or releasing him but I feel that if Miller or Cleary were in that spot then the line would function just as well.

Time to cut our losses with drapes and send him on the retirement tour. If we are lucky maybe we could get some trade value for him, possibly a draft pick! Maltby too, he's just as bad.

For all those that say he's the best penalty killer on the team: look at our record on the PK. GET RID OF HIM FINALLY

It's your thread, supply some documentation regading the PK stats. Make a case, not just a comment.

I think he's the perfect example for Helm. His mentorship, experience, professionalsim, and faceoff expertise will increase Helm's growth along the learning curve exponentially. Long live Drapes!

You can retire with time remaining on your contract. I would not be shocked if Draper did. Or didn't.

You can retire with time on your contract but since Draper signed his contract after turning 35 if he were to do that his number will still count against the cap.

We'd still have his salary left on the books, though, so personally I'd rather he kept playing as long as we're going to be paying him.

If he were to retire he wouldn't be paid. But you're right, his number woudl count against the cap.

Personally I think this thread was either made to troll this forum or was made by someone with absoltuely zero knowledge of the current situation the Wings find themselves in.

1. Wings will NOT move Draper or Maltby

2. Draper has far more value to this team than most in this thread are giving him credit for (no offence to those pro Draper posters)

3. THe Wings are not in the business of tarnishing long lasting, mutually beneficial relationships with players when there is not just cause

I also think Draper has been playing some good hockey for us.... especially still at this stage of his career. Maltby has seen better days and will hopefully be moving on at years end but I don't mind Draper having another year on the 4th line.... they've been great!

You think Phoenix would be willing to give us that dollar back for him?

:hehe:

Good one....this is the kinda response that keeps bringing me back to these boards....maybe because of Draps age we should go for half a buck!

Regardless of who's wearing the 'C', he's the most vocal leader on this team. You don't have to be in the locker room to know that. As useless as Chelios was on the ice in his last couple years, I think is leadership has been missed this season.

Draper is a leader with a great attitude who keeps morale high and CAN STILL PLAY HOCKEY.

Maltby is an agitator who, like draper, is great on the PK and CAN STILL PLAY HOCKEY.

They are both on the brink of retirement, so get over yourselves and let them finish their careers here. It's the least you can do considering all they've given you over the years. I'm proud to have them on our team and I cannot believe anybody who is a true Wings fan would ever dream of trading them NOW.

Not exactly sure what was said to make you laugh but I am happy with our 4th and I think Draper is playing well also. Whats dom up to these days? What the F are you talking about... I don't get it? Where does that come from?

Well, that's just common sense...it's called depreciation folks. I'd say getting him for $1 and then reselling him well above his blue book value for 50 cents would be solid. 16 years of service for 50cents...Im sold.

In all seriousness, I cant believe anyone actually thinks we should ditch him.

She replied to the wrong post. I think she meant to reply to

trade Datsyuk Zetterberg Howard Bertuzzi and Lidstrom to Pittsburgh for Talbot and call up Abbs janik newbury and get hasek out of retirement for the new starting goalie

thats a winning team right there

Anyway, trade Draper? No, no, a thousand times no for all the reasons given.

GMR- the dollar back from Phoenix made me laugh, but you'd have to think that with inflation, it would probably be $1.47 now. I realize he has declined from what he has been with the Wings, but he wasn't that great before he came here. I'd say his play has elevated since he checked into that Detroit hotel and was told that they had him checking out the next day.

Yeah Draps could retire with time remaining on his contract but the Wings would be stuck with his 1,583,333 cap hit. Draper has played well this year and there is no way the Wings trade Draper. Loyalty to guys like that is part of the reason that guys like Z, Mule, and Lids consider taking discounts to stay with the Wings.
