redwingfan19 293 Report post Posted February 14, 2010 I'd definitely support that trade. That doesn't mean I back up my words about Filppula, but Horton would add more top scoring to the team. There is one big question about that trade though. How good will Kindl be? He has obviously a lot of potential and has been growing in our system. He has played below expectations recently though. He's a big guy who still an offensive defenseman, kinda like Ericsson. I have a feeling that Kindl will end up being at least a top4 defenseman. the jury is still out on kindl, but it looks like pyett is putting it together, also smith is looking like a stud. Also lashoff and erdhardt look like they could be top six guys. Wings still have a lot of depth on D and i think kindl could be expandable if it means bringing a guy like horton to the wings. I also feel kindl can be a top 4 but who know how he will pan out. If kenny decides to make a splash to get a scorer here, kindl would definitely have to be part of the package. Stiffy 0 Report post Posted February 14, 2010 This is what I got out of that: "You guys are making too many logical points for me to logically argue against and not end up looking stupid, so I'm just going to embellish your arguments to make you look dumb and rehash what I've said despite it being already argued against in hopes that the wordiness of it makes me look correct". Is this or any of the "logic" demonstrated here at all new to you? I think the mods should post THIS in the stickies. I took a logic and critical thinking course in college - highly recommended and it is easy to spot the all too common logical fallacies in so many arguments, political speeches, news shows or even at work, the dinner table or a party! Alas, it seems most people take the debating class approach and it is not the same thing. Sadly, unless we lived on the planet Vulcan, logic and well formed arguments rarely rule. Pyett kind of got lost in the shuffle last year, but has been looking up. Smith, more importantly, is most comparable to what Kindl would/could bring to the team. I'm not saying you're lying, but I'm just curious about where you heard this? Anytime someone says, "my sources say" it's a bit suspect. I'm all for this move, but we'd have to be sending out more salary I think? Edited February 14, 2010 by Jesusberg

I actually don't have "sources" lol .......I was just making fun of eklund. But this is a trade i think should be made, and I think a filppula kindl package could land horton IMO. I know it seems like I have a huge man crush on horton but this is a 30 goal guy who has played on a s***ty team so far in his carrer, imagine what he could do with a datsyuk or zetterberg. He is only 24 and a million more than phil and the wings will have cap space after this season. I think kenny could make it work but would he do it is the question..... I don't know if he has the jam

I just wish you had sources, because I really would like to see this move happen, haha.

Hockeytown0001 7,652 Report post Posted February 15, 2010 I'm not trying to stir up a hornet's nest, but what is their record without Flip vs. with Flip? Detroit is 13 -11 -10 with Fil in the lineup, meaning they are 15-10-2 without him. Uh oh.
Konnan511 1,736 Report post Posted February 15, 2010 Detroit is 13 -11 -10 with Fil in the lineup, meaning they are 15-10-2 without him. Uh oh. We have more points with Flip in the line-up than without him. 13-11-10>15-10-
FinWing 26 Report post Posted February 15, 2010 (edited) We have more points with Flip in the line-up than without him. 13-11-10>15-10-2 4 more points in 7 more games. So pretty much the same with and without him. This team has been so incredibly inconsistent it's hard to find any trends. Z and D for the C 712 Report post Posted February 15, 2010 With Flip / Without GP: 34 / 27 Points Possible: 68 / 54 Points Acquired: 36 / 32 Points Percentage: 53% / 59% But that's really just for "fun", there is no doubt our record with Flip would be worse if he wasn't in and our record without him would be better if he was in. Konnan511 1,736 Report post Posted February 15, 2010 You know you go to CMU when... Actually, a lot of people on here lack reading comprehension and critical thinking when they see numbers or stats so i was trying to undercut them with an invalid stat that would make Filppula look more important haha. This team has been so incredibly inconsistent it's hard to find any trends. Fil has been in the lineup for 10 shootout losses, whereas Detroit only had 2 for the entire time he was away. Maybe he's the shootout curse.
Guest Crymson Report post Posted February 15, 2010 No, I agree completely. Horton would bring elements this team needs. He fits the power forward mold to a T. I just wish you had sources, because I really would like to see this move happen, haha. We need a pure sniper, not a power forward. Although only one of our three power forwards---Franzen---is better than Horton, we do have THREE. We are not hurting for power forwards.

I think that even if Kindl ends up a top 4 guy that we still get the better side of this trade. Horton is nearly the same age as him and a proven 30 goal scorer on a team with noone to play with. Horton came in the league with 50 goal potential and at 24 he could still easily do it. Flip tops out as a mediocre second liner in my opinion(dont wanna start an argument) adn we get a 3rd in return. Horton playing on al ine with Datsyuk and Franzen partnered with Z and i doubt you see any of these goal scoring troubles. And Horton has a little meanness to his game which is something I love to see, he could be like Shanny really if he fought more he has the ability. Oh and does anyone know if he could be squeezed in cap wise( I don't understand that s***) because hes been on LTIR with a broken leg for a like a month now? We are not hurting for power forwards. Why does it matter how theys core as long as they do? I would consider Franzen a pure goal scorer and same with Horton. We need goals it doesnt matter how they come. And honestly Franzen hasn't proven to be better then Horton except in the playoffs Horton could be just as god if not better then Mule.
