I thought it was obvious he left for the money.

But just for one year it seems like a waste of time.

I mean he didn't exactly make Lebron James money over there.

5 mil tax-free is a pretty good reason to jump ship for a year. I know I would do it. It's the difference between "my kids should never have to worry" and "my grandkids shouldn't have to worry" as long as you are smart with it.

Huddles would be a welcome addition to the third line and could be moved up to the second line easily too. I would still like to see us add another physical body - Raffi Torres comes to mind - that can bang, crash, and score too. After seeing what Fil has done with and for Z, I would really like to keep them together as we have a glutton of centers that could take the third and fourth center spot next year.

Homer-Dats-Mule

Fil-Z-Torres

Huds-Helm-Cleary

Draper-Abby-Eaves/Miller

Not sure what they'll do with Bert next year, I guess it depends on what he wants for salary and if we can fit him in somewhere. Ritola is out of options but didn't exactly tear it up last year so maybe we trade him keep him for a while if there's an injury out of training camp. I really think Abby will be up with the Wings next year as we can see he's better than some of the current Wings now.

If Lids returns with a 2.5mil paycut and if the cap rises by a 1mil we can easily afford the forward lineup listed above with Williams salary coming off the books too. Huds is already signed for 2.7. Torres will be looking for somewhere in the neighborhood of 2.5/year for two years as well. 1.5 from Williams, 1.0 in cap increase, 2.5 from Lids reduced salary gives us 5mil to play with next year for Huds and Torres.

I'd like that line up if we can afford. Would be a really good third line. I don't think Torres would get 2.5 though, 2 at max.

If Holmstrom retires I'm all for Hudler coming back in a top 6 role... I'd like to see if he could handle it to finally end the debate about how much he can play.

Without Homer:

Franzen-Dats-Bertuzzi

Filppula-Zett-Hudler

Cleary-Helm-Eaves

Draper-Abs-Maltby/Ritola?

With Homer:

Mule-Dats-Homer

Flip-Z-Bert

Huds-Helm-Clearly

Draper-Abs-Eaves

I'd buy into either one... maybe switch Huds and Bert, but who knows if they'll bring Bert back. One thing I can safely assume: Williams and Lebda will go bye-bye.

If I was working at a place for five years and another firm offers me twice as much as I am making now AND offers me a clause in my contract that says I can go back to my old firm if I didn't like this new one...hell yah I'd take them up on that!

We don't really need Hudler, but I'd take him back as a PP specialist and a 2nd/3rd line sniper no problem as long as we shed some dead weight/salaries ala Maltby/Draper/Lebeech/Willfails. We NEED Holmstrom to stay on another year, that much is for sure as we have learned this year, he is VITAL.

Just because Hudler is back doesn't mean Bert is gone.

Well it's not a matter of cap space for me as much a matter of roster spots and the appropriate type of roster spot.

The bottom six has a big enough glut of players as it stands today. Also, I really like the way the bottom six has been this year. They can all really skate and they're only going to get better in all aspects of the game. Hudler is a guy who should be in the top six. So is Bertuzzi. Those guys really shouldn't be in the bottom six because of their style of play. The top six will have Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Franzen, Filppula and Holmstrom will re-sign I'm sure. That only leaves one spot for a top six forward. Hudler or Bertuzzi?

The Dynamo's GM left and Hudler was his big signing last year so it makes sense that Hudler would be on the out with him after they s*** the bed in the playoffs and Hudler expressed interest in going back to Detroit.

Grigorenko was involved in an car accident that really hurt his development.

Yes I was aware of that...What I was getting at was his overall conditioning - it was sub par by NHL standards; this notion that the KHL has better conditioned atheletes is well - it's pure crap.

While I agree that it's BS that the KHL has better conditioned athletes, I want to point out that Grigs was a complementary player in the KHL at that point while Jagr was a superstar.

Although Grigorenko had a fantastic season this year for star loaded Ufa team. Keep in mind when he was here for training camp a few years ago the accident did not allow him to properly train the way he would have wanted to. Cards were just stacked against him. I do not think it was because he was lazy and unprepared. I just don't think he was physically unable to do the things to prepare himself for an NHL season.

He hasn't said it anywhere but lots of reporters over here gets that feeling after talking to him, you know the swedish red wing player's are much more open to swedish media than north american media because swedish media doesn't get the NA attention...For example Homer is usually pretty politically incorrect when talking to some reporters over here if he would have said the same stuff to NA-media he might have gotten Fined for it..

Oooh, like what kind of stuff does Homer say? I love it when professionals are politically incorrect.

And about Lidstrom, my fear is that he has already decided in his heart that he'll retire after the season is over.

EDIT: And based on the way Game 3 went for him, it looks like he was already thinking about his nice retirement house in Sweden. When was the last time any of us saw him play that badly?

Looks good, hopefully the year in that s*** league didn't harm his development and he stayed fairly clean.

He should fit right in on that second line and if he gets enough minutes should be able to break the points record in a couple months.

I hope we can get him to stop at Ellis Island for a thorough de-lousing before he gets into the country. He was rumoured previously to have a thing for hookers and I could see him going through hookers and coke faster than a...than a....a rich midget in Russia?

I hope he can quickly adapt himself back to the fast, more skilled, more gritty, superior-in-every-single-way NHL game.

Everyone who has referred to Hudler as a midget please post your real height.

As it is right now I envision a lot of 12 year olds calling him a midget and in fact are only about 4'8 themselves.

As many players in much tougher eras have proven size does not matter in the NHL, it is heart and work ethic. Does Size help, sure so doesn't speed, quickness, and scrappyness.

He made it clear from the start that he only wanted to play in the NHL for the Red Wings, when it looked like they could not afford him (which they couldn't) he and his agent decided on KHL, and Holland knew all about the whole plan. Those of you calling him a trader do realize that if he had not gone to arbitration before going to the KHL this situation would be a lot messier. Also the fact that he did it with Hollands blessing.

But you know what, haterz gonna hate!

I'm 3'1", 43lbs. The fact that I'm also a midget doesn't make Hudler not a midget.

Dwarfism, in medicine, is the condition of being undersized, or less than 127 cm (50 inches) in height. The term midget is usually applied to physically well-proportioned dwarfs.

Hudler is taller than 50 inches as 50 inches = 4'2 (50 /12 = 4 remainder 2 inches), therefore no he is not. (although I doubt he is the listed 5'9)

But as I said haterz gonna hate.

You are 6'2 yet have how many NHL, KHL, Czech Team goals do you have?

mmmm is height really what makes great hockey players?

Or is it the Bow Leggedness that was rumored long ago (not sure if you have ever heard the expression show me a bow legged french man and I will show you a hockey player.)

Either way I am still having a hard time correlating height to NHL skill level, as Chara is the tallest guy in the league but has no Hart trophies, and even gets beaten out yearly in an award designed specifically for him to compete against only people of his position, well if he is the tallest in the league than with out a doubt he must be the tallest D-man, surely he must be the best.

How much taller than Hudler is Crosby? Is that what makes the talent gap difference, the 2 inches (probably 3) is the reason why Crosby is so much greater than Hudler.

And guys like Theo Fluery have proven sizes matters for little more than an attribute in Hockey.

So I ask why does his size matter other than it gives you something to criticize. He takes a licking and keeps on ticking. How many times has he been lit up at center ice only to never miss a shift.

AH that's it! The fact that he is a midget and has different bone structure than the rest of us and that explains it, so you weren't hating. I had it all wrong you trying to show us all that being a midget was a bonus!

Silly me!

PS most of this is me being sarcastic you are just hating for the sake of hating.

Hudler could of stayed a Red Wing if he didn't want more money then he deserved.

It's his fault he ruined his career by wasting a year of his prime in a s*** Euro league.

Hyperbole, on the internet, is a figure of speech in which exaggeration is used for emphasis or effect, as in "I could eat a horse" or "Jiri Hudler is a midget".

I won't even address your red herrings and strawmen (which aren't actually crimson fish or human likenesses woven from organic material).
