Ovi or Dats? possibly Kovy?
I think that pavel is clearly the best current russian player, and should be up there with soviet greats. yet the argument comes down to dats v. ovy. 2 different styles of play and different sets of skills though. ovi obviously makes more and scores more goals....but dats brings alot to the table 2. if dats had ovis size and muscle i think this would be a no brainer.

The glamorous pick is Ovechkin. Overall though, it's Datsyuk. Didn't Pav win some "Best Russian player" award recently?
yes lol. but it seems very easy to argue that ovi is better. ovi won the award the last 5 yrs in a row!

i think that was mainly the result of boudreau trying to make his team something its not....defensive

With Crosby injured I think you could make the case for Datsyuk being the best hockey player in the world.

I don't put that much stock in the "best <insert country here> player" awards. I understand that the players vote for it, but Nick's only won the Viking Award for best Swedish player twice in his career. Gotta be something wrong there.

Hands down, Pasha. Ovi never shows up against the Wings and I hypothesize it has something to do with Lucky Number 13.

I'm a Russian and for me it is Dats, Malkin (just slightly worse), Kovalchuk and then goes Ovechkin. Perhaps A. Markov is ahead of him.
Sweet. This dude was brought here for one reason, to punch people in the head - every other thing that he can do, other Wings can do better. I like that we have a head-puncher. The league has other, better head-punchers, but this one is ours. Better than nothing. Good work, Kenny!

Datsyuk is a perenial Selke candidate who does it all while providing highlight reel goals. He may never win a Hart, but I would rather have him on the ice for any situation than Ovi, Malkin or Kovi.

I would say last year Datsyuk was the best russian player and maybe the best player in the world. Kinda like soccer where the best player in the world is always changing ever year.
