Hudler?

1. You are hoping that a player of your favourite team has a subpar season?

Nothing personal, just business....

2. Doan is Coyotes' francise player so they won't trade him

Ray Bourque?

and he dislikes Detroit.

 Uh, ya, should I find the Chelios video?

Ok, ok, whatever. Call Holland and tell him to trade Hudler for Doan. I'm going to a pub.

Don't be bitter. You said they wouldn't trade their franchise player, yet Boston did so he could win a Cup. You said Doan doesn't like Detroit so he'd never agree to come here, yet we all know the Chelios video and well, where he ended up coming to and winning 2 Cups...Doan would come here in a minute to win a Cup and Phoenix would trade him for younger players, especially since Doan would probably be a rental and end up back in Phoenix before he retires.

I never said trade Hudler for Doan. I simply said, when Mursak comes back, someone has got to go and I don't think Holland wants to lose anyone for nothing via the waiver. Hudler won't get Detroit Doan, not by himself, if at all...

Cheers!

Oh, I was just kidding. I agree with most things that you wrote. You won and I love you.

Yeah, because Boston wasn't going to make the playoffs that year, and Colorado paid through their nose for him. On top of that it was a class move, to get him a cup, I doubt whatever conglomeration that owns the yotes will send him Detroit for Hudler+++ unless its a great prospect and a first rounder, and Doan ain't worth that much. On top of all this next year is a huge flux year for Detroit, a lot of core players need contracts, Lidstrom will more than likely be gone, and anything that goes to Phoenix out of the farm for that old rental will only make Holland's job this off season that much harder.

If Doan has another year like last year, and Hudler plays like he did from the end of Dec 2010 to the end of February 2011 (26 points in 28 games), he could bring back Doan.

For a second I thought I was on a penguins thread. :hehe:(jk.)

No; that is "I would have fallen out of my chair, and then bitched to the mods when they didn't do anything about it."

Doan would be such a great addition to this team, I hope Hudler has a good year and they can use him to swap for Doan. Come playoff time that guy was changing games physically.

Plus who wouldnt love to see Thornton looking like Franzen did after the first round last year?

I figured we should just have a thread for this because it comes up in every other thread at least once.

A strong start for Hudler, and Mursak a few weeks away... How much does he have to do to make him a valuable trading commodity?

12 weeks is "a few weeks away"? lol

I don't think that sending their franchise player to Detroit for a soon-to-be-FA would be a great idea for them. Nor, indeed, do I think that trading away Jiri at the tail end of a career year would make any sense at all.

Ugh... Guy is showing signs of coming back to form and people still just want to trade him and complain? Be patient Wings fans! He is a good player and can be a great weapon come playoff time! He had to adjust his game last year and was showing good signs towards the end of the year i thought! I have always liked Hudler! Some of you fans are so spoiled! Be patient and give players a break! Our young talent takes time and patience because we have been the best team in hockey for close to 20 YEARS!!! So yea our Draft picks like Hudler and Filpulla may not be Yzerman or Gretzky like you all hoped.. but they sure do a lot of darn good and unnoticed things on this team! And i know Babcock and company give them credit unlike some of you!

Reasons why this would be horrible:

#1 No way the yotes trade Doan 1 for 1, they will want a king's ransom. The Wings will have to give up at least a prospect and a pick in addition.

#2 Anyone Holland will look at will need to be a player either with years left on their deal, or likely to resign, this next off season will be hard enough without needing to add another top 6 forward.

#3 The Yotes have made the playoffs 2 years in a row, there is no reason to assume they will be sellers. If they are anywhere close to the 8th seed no way they trade Doan anyway.

After Hossa Im a little bit hesitant to trust anyone enough to re-sign, especially loosing someone from the top six.

I've never really been a Hudler fan, but I was also not his biggest critic either. I'm all for Hudler having a career year for possible trade bait come dead line. He's the type of player sellers would like in return because his contract will expire after this season.

If anything, Holland needs to beef up the defense to prepare for Lidstrom's retirement. Maybe package Hudler up with Ericsson/Kindl for a young top4 dman. Or maybe trade Hudler for a top6 under-achieving power forward. I hear L.A. Kings are not too happy with Penner. Penner can be a beast if you can keep him motivated. I've read online that Jeff Blashill is amazing at rallying players and bringing out the best in them. Just food for thought.

That's the 2nd time you've mentioned trading for Penner and it's hilarious because at the trade deadline in NHL 12, I traded Hudler and a 3rd for him

Honestly, I've been happy with Hudler so far. He doesn't look like absolute s*** and that's the biggest positive of his game because that's what he was last year. Hell, keep Hudler and move a depth forward and something of value for Doan or Penner is need be

A young top-4 defenseman to replace Lidstrom? A top-1 defenseman is more like it. So you trade Hudler and Kindl or Ericsson for a guy like that?

Okay, who do you think fills that role AND is available via trade. Suter, maybe? Yandle, possibly? Or perhaps we could be really lucky and get Enstrom?

I don't see any of Nashville, Phoenix, or Winnipeg giving up those guys for Hudler and Kindl/Ericsson, unless the defenseman we trade is playing solid top-four quality this season. And if Ericsson and Kindl do that, and Hudler plays well, why trade them for Suter when he can be signed in July?

Well depending on what our defense looks like etc, this could be the year to make a decent move at the dead line with the cap space, so might as well list it here since Hudler will likely be a part of the deal.

Outside of the really , really good guys like Suter or Parise I'll list some guys that could be worth targetting.

Doan has been mentioned but he would be a perfect fit in the top 6 as a power forward.

Tuomo Ruutu - legit top 6 forward this team needs. Trade for him, let him take the second line cetner duties and put pav and Z together. He gives a big body that plays physical as well. I would be acstatic if Detroit could get him. His team is nothing special so they may be sellers as well. Hes young and could provide a very good second line cetner for years to come

Paul Gaustad - faceoff guy and solid all around hockey player. Would give good depth in the bottom 6 and a big body that likes to throw his weight around

And some good grinder types worth looking into are Travis Moen and Jason Chimera.

Someone like Hemsky, Umberger or Kostitsen would be worth looking into as well to add depth for the playoffs.

Ruutu? He's almost 29 and has had severe back and ankle injuries. His top production levels are no better than what Hudler has put up or what Filppula is expected to put up, and he did it playing much better time and opportunity. Hudler is younger, much more durable, knows the system, and has developed chemistry with the guys on the team.

Gaustad? We're going to wait for Hudler's trade value to increase so we can trade him for a fourth line faceoff specialist? If Holland wanted a fourth line faceoff specialist, Ryan Johnson would be on the team.

Moen and Chimera are equally ridiculous suggestions. It would hardly take a productive top-six forward to get those guys, although I know many here wouldn't trade them for anything less than that.

Hemsky is highly skilled but very fragile. He also has had attitude issues, so it's unlikely at best.

Umberger. Now we finally have a realistic suggestion. Except he's three years older and plays for a division rival. On the Wings, he realistically would fit in as a third liner, with Homer or Bert moving into Hudler's vacated top-six spot.

Which Kostitsyn are you talking about? Either would be decent as supplemental scoring, but neither would be a good replacement for Hudler.

Holland will never land another "Lidstrom" caliber dman from FA. My post was top4 with top2 potential. I couldn't even speculate who they would target because they can see talent before most anyone else will. I'm sure Red Wings brass have a good idea who can advance to the next star level.

Just throwing some names around to entertain you, perhaps a team would like to unload or beef up anther spot on their roster by adding a legit scoring line forward and a cheap(er) young dman with positive upside (i.e. Kindl/Ericsson).

Bogosian

Jack Johnson

Bouwmeester

Pitkanen

Again, those names are obvious, I'm sure Holland and company can sniff out legit top2 potential dmen that we probably rarely heard of or notice. Like I said, we won't be replacing Lidstrom, so the next best thing is having top quality defense depth (ala Penguins).

Just reading some of the examples of trades they would want to see, I wonder just how drunk these other GMs are. Trading a top 4 defenseman for Hudler and Kindl? I would say that some people here are living in a dreamworld, but I would say it borders on insanity.

Hudler is going to be here for the season, and I bet you are going to see a turnaround over last season. Hell, at the end of last season he was going at almost a point per game pace. I think you will see Hudler with between 60-70 points at the end of this season.
