As stated, NHLPA approves hybrid icing for this year.  I didn't think it was going to get through this year.

I understand the rationale behind using hybrid icing, but it seems like it's going to be a mess this season because it comes down to the discretion of the linesmen .

it only really helps if the dman is getting to the puck first anyway

It'll get some taking used to, just like anything else, but in the end, I think it'll be ok.  Over time, the linesmen will get more uniform in calling it.

It's going to take a LOT of getting used to.

So the way I understand it, if the other team ices it and the linesman is forced to blow it dead the Red Wings get a power play. Am I missing anything?

This league is turning into a freaking joke how can the PA approve such a stupid rule? Stop ### the great game of hockey, I already feel sorry for the refs their job just became a lot tougher. seriously smaller pads, forced visors, hybrid icing what's next? no hitting because some soccer, baseball or basketball fans don't like it? Leave the damn game its rules and tradition alone! sent from a mobile device autocorrections errors are possible!

Yep.  It also works in the other direction if we ice it.

You're welcome.

No, I was teasing.  The faceoff goes to the other end just like before.

Good cause if it was the refs discretion for that dog penalty it would not work in our favour

To me this is a no brainer, the players now have a chance to brace for impact instead of racing full speed into the boards and trying to out fence the other guys stick.

Nothing to add. I like the new rule.

I like the rule, it keeps the players somewhat safer from injury. I don't understand some people hating this. I agree the nhl has made some ridiculous rules, but this is not one of them, they won't magically remove hitting from hockey because of this rule. This doesn't slow the game down in any way, in fact it's probably good if your fighting for a goal in the dying seconds, an extra second on the clock could be the difference between overtime and losing

The only issue I have is shouldn't have been announced prior to preseason so they could have players could have gotten used to the change, I've only seen highlights of the games so if this was done then please ignore.

As is so often the case, the new rule will not be the problem. The problem will be having competent on-ice officials making the call correctly.
