ilmickeyli 40 Report post Posted March 30, 2014 I mean yes he has been good, but I'm concerned having the monster play tomorrow. Although winning today was huge, we need every point we can get. Howie could use the rest, too, I'm sure.. Just a little concerned with the decision. Anyone else agree?
nawein 324 Report post Posted March 30, 2014 Nah. Howie needs the rest and we always seem to step up offensively when he's in instead of Jimmy. Plus I'd rather have Monster in against Tampa than Buffalo or Carolina since those are definitely all must wins. Monsters style scares me to death but he's been effective this year. Hopefully we can bring home another W tomorrow. 2 Hockeymom1960 and ilmickeyli reacted to this

Guest Playmaker Report post Posted March 30, 2014 I don't have an issue with it. Howard could use the rest and either way, it's a good for Jimmy. If Monster has a bad game, it gives Jimmy the feeling he has to be the guy. If he does well, it pushes Jimmy to match the performance. The Wings have generally done well with Monster in net, so I don't see it as throwing a game away. Babcock would never have rested Jimmy after a loss for fear of hurting his confidence. It makes sense to do it after a big win when Jimmy had a decent game, so it doesn't appear that he's been pulled for poor play. 2 Hockeymom1960 and 55fan reacted to this
frankgrimes 1,836 Report post Posted March 30, 2014 I'm confident with Monster in the net, he just gets the job done . Also IF - mind you very big if - this team makes the playoff a huge part of credit has to go to him he bailed them out a lot of times. Howard had a good game give him some rest and let the monster get some playing time. 1 Hockeymom1960 reacted to this
SDavis35 140 Report post Posted March 30, 2014 If I were the coach I would do the same. Gustavsson has been winning, so he is not a liability. Howard has been playing real well but needs a break so he doesn't get overworked. Pretty much everything said in the topic. Doesn't matter who's in net to me. I want this team to continue battling hard, putting the playoffs out of reach for those behind us.

joshy207 156 Report post Posted March 30, 2014 There's about a 19-hour turnaround between the end of the Leafs game and the start of the Lightning game. Throw in the flight home from Toronto and, yeah, it makes total sense to start Gustavsson. No point in burning out Howard and they need Gustavsson to get some PT to keep the rust away. DickieDunn 2,571 Report post Posted March 30, 2014 He'll give up 4 goals, Wings will win 5-4, people will say "Monster should be #1 he wins his games," then tomorrow Kahn will tweet that Gustavsson tweaked his groin and will be out 2 weeks. 5 55fan, Nev, GMRwings1983 and 2 others reacted to this

Dabura 12,207 Report post Posted March 30, 2014 Probably not a consideration, but Howard has really struggled with mid-to-high-zone slappers. And now we're facing Stamkos.

Motown4013 350 Report post Posted March 30, 2014 Without the Monster, we would probably be in 10th and no where close to a playoff spot. He was super solid for us when Jimmy could not stop a beach ball. If the guy is healthy, let's use him. Howard can't go 10 in a row without getting too exhausted and we need him to be fresh down the stretch. I think Monster has been seriously overlooked this year as a guy who played a pivotal role for us but .....that's not weird- the young guys, the underdogs and the underrateds have been carrying it this team. Let's go MONSTER and let's go Wings.....I would Love to see Mule, Alfie and Legwand show up tonight instead of relying on the young guys to carry this thing. maybe Monster in net will lead that charge! 1 frankgrimes reacted to this

Monster will have a tough task ahead of him Stammer and a for sure motivated Filps isn't something to take lightly. One thing is for sure the Wings need to come out prepared otherwise the Bolts are going to put this game away early in the first. 1 Motown4013 reacted to this

Agreed....we have been really guilty of not " starting on time" but I have noticed this team seems to really buckle down in front of Monster verses Howie.....I think they want him to get the W ( not that they DON'T want Jimmy to Win) and anyone that's played sports- even on a rec league- you back check a bit harder for the back up....you work deeper for them. Let's hope that's the case today......we need them too

One thing is for sure the Wings need to come out prepared otherwise the Bolts are going to put this game away early in the first. And let's not forget Callahan, who's on fire right now. Flip's speed, Stamkos's shot, Callahan's net-front presence...I hope our D got a lot of rest last night. I think the big thing is to stay out of the box. We do not want to be giving Stamkos great looks all night long. On a related note: What is this five-man PK thing we're so fond of? We back off the point men, collapse in front of our net, basically look like we have zero faith in Howard...that has to change. 1 Hockeymom1960 reacted to this
