Smite 399 Report post Posted January 6, 2015 Hahaha. I hope they hire torts. Miss that guy OMG TORTS WOULD BE PERFECT IN TORONTO That or Mike Keenan... or better yet take a page from New Jersey and have a 3 way coach in Torts Iron Mike and bring back Ron Wilson. I would pay money for that reality show. A match made in heaven : Torts + Toronto Media = pure entertainment. Make him do the TSN "the Quiz" after every game
amato 3,210 Report post Posted January 6, 2015 Well hopefully they send Franson and/or Van Reimsdyk this way lol. YES. I'll take one JVR please and thank you!
frankgrimes 1,836 Report post Posted January 6, 2015 Okay this will only add more fodder to the Babcock to Toronto speculations. If I were in Babcocks shoes I'd love it every coach getting fired increases his leverage and Toronto for sure has the bucks to pay the man whatever he wants and offer him more of a say in whom he wants on the roster or to trade for. Carlyle is a hardnosed, oldschool coach his act wears thin with players very quickly I mean, this is a guy who butted heads with Anaheim biggest stars and two extremely hard workers (Perry, Getzlaf). The guy just has this my way or the highway philosophy and nowadays s tars won't accept that. Now the focus will be on Nonis - whom I'd love as an adviser if they fire him - and for sur e some of the players.
krsmith17 7,191 Report post Posted January 6, 2015 As much as I'd love to have Van Riemsdyk, I'd rather take Franson if the option was there. He fills a bigger need on our team in my opinion. 1 kipwinger reacted to this
kipwinger 8,524 Report post Posted January 6, 2015 From The Hockey News: "Toronto seems an ideal challenge for the brash Babcock, who has a Stanley Cup and two gold medals, might want to reach a new summit and is thick-skinned enough to handle the pressure of hockey’s media epicenter." Lol. Mike Babcock is not thick skinned. He's super fickle and hates being questioned or second guessed, which is what he would be...constantly. Wait until Cherry et. al. scrutinize every single thing he does, and then watch the steam come out of his ears. 1 Jesusberg reacted to this

Babcock's your man and he's been performing miracles with this welfare line-up that Holland The Incompetent has shackled him with. Like how he took a borderline ECHLer like Weiss and turned him into a serviceable 4th line plug. Coach of the year move there. But things will be different in Toronto. Because, unlike the Wings, they a deeply sophisticated organizational structure and philosophy that other teams covet. I can see it now, Babcock will go to Shanahan and demand that they trade Clarkson and a 4th for Tavares, and it will be so. Why? Because Babcock will have more "say". 3 krsmith17, Son of a Wing and kipwinger reacted to this

kipwinger 8,524 Report post Posted January 6, 2015 If you're just reading their body language, it looks like Torts likes what he sees and is trying to pick Disco Dan up from across the bar. It's like, if there were a third picture it would be of a bartender handing Bylsma a drink and pointing back in Torts direction.

frankgrimes 1,836 Report post Posted January 6, 2015 The good point is, some of the "let go Babcock" crowd might get their wish and depending on how his successor will do we might have our own "fire coach X, hire coach Y" just like most other teams in the league. as for this topic wouldn't surprise me if Edmonton picks Carlyle up

Losing our coach and getting a newer suckier coach that we want to replace right away IS a "good point". You're right. As a sincere Wings fan, I can totally see how you'd want that to happen. 1 kipwinger reacted to this

Jesusberg 1,256 Report post Posted January 6, 2015 http://www.tsn.ca/video/kessel-you-think-it-s-my-fault-1.176130 The irony behind Kessel being asked if he's difficult to coach, then insisting he's not by throwing a tantrum... ahh. To be fair, the media here is difficult, but he should be a little more used to it by now.
krsmith17 7,191 Report post Posted January 6, 2015 I'm by no means a fan of Kessel, but I personally love that he called him an idiot. It was a stupid ass question by a stupid ass reporter, trying to get a rise out of Kessel... and it worked. I would have done the same thing. Good stuff. 1 RedWingsRox reacted to this

Watch him during an interview. You can almost hear him thinking, "God, you're stupid. These questions are stupid. Glendening is hard on the puck. Oh, is it my turn to speak again?" I liked him as a coach, but he is ridiculously impatient with the media... or maybe it's just with HSJ.

I liked him as a coach, but he is ridiculously impatient with the media... or maybe it's just with HSJ. Yeah, I'm not even making any statement about him as a coach right now (not that I need to). I'm just talking about his relationship with the media. To say Babcock is thick skinned enough to handle Toronto's media is silly. He's never, EVER, dealt with that kind of scrutiny. He's coached Anaheim 10 years ago when nobody cared about the team. And he coaches Detroit, where everybody treats him like a god. As you (correctly) point out, he gets SUPER irritated with the media, and he's basically never dealt with any hostile media in his career.
