Everyone (in the organisation and fans) are so high on Dylan Larkin, I thought it'd be fun to see how many games we all think he might play with the Wings this season. This kid is going to be awesome by all indications, and I'm sure he'd handle it at the NHL level right now, but my belief is he should stick out the year in the AHL, maybe have a cup of coffee at some point.

Thoughts?

Agreed. He played one year for U of M and made the jump to GR in the playoffs, not a lot of experience under his belt yet. That combined with the logjam of forwards wanting to make the jump/vying for a roster spot, I don't expect to see him for more than a couple games at the end of the season and only if we're locked in our spot already. Aside from that, we would either need to get decimated by injuries in order to see him, or he'd need to seriously impress in GR this year. Essentially he's fighting Bertuzzi, Mantha, Pulks, Ferraro, Callahan, and AA for call-up time with the Wings.

The Larkin situation reminds me of the Mantha talk from last season. Id be shocked if Larkin plays with the big club next year. I voted for less then 5 only because an injury might give him a shot. Other then DD who was the last prospect Holland rushed? Wings just don't do it.

Agreed. Even then, DD wasn't a prospect in the traditional sense. We happened to win the sweeps for signing him, plus he had 3 years of college hockey already.

He will have a few games. Under 10 max. I say this because they will want to get his feet wet a bit in the big league...since, barring some huge setback, this will be his only AHL season. He will be in Detroit for 16/17 if his current pace of development holds up.

I doubt he gets in any games, unless there are a significant number of injuries down the middle. While Datsyuk is out, I expect it to be Richards, Sheahan, Helm, Glendening OR Zetterberg, Richards, Sheahan, Glendening. And once Datsyuk returns (which may not be that long) I think it will be Datsyuk, Richards, Sheahan, Glendening... So unless two or three of Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Richards, Sheahan, Helm, Glendening are out at the same time, I don't expect to see Larkin up. Even then, they would probably elect to put Andersson in over calling Larkin up...

Larkin's going to be a great player for us in the future. I don't see any reason to rush him. Let him develop his game in the minors for one full season and call him up for the 2016-17 season. I say zero games...

0 games. With some disclaimers:

If we in the end of the season with a few games remaining already have missed the playoffs, Larkin will be called up.

If 4 or more offensemen are ruled out due to injury, he might make a quick stint depending on how he's doing in GR.

Afterthought edit:

I think he's gonna be a regular Next season. He will be 'rushed' in a Red Wings sense. And probably have a semi-goon on his line.

Just needs to get acclimated 1 year + bulk up. Speed & vision is there.

Zero games should be the plan but with how many injuries the wings have had at time the past few seasons (*knocks on wood*), I voted 5-10. I agree with those saying a strong camp plus injuries could very well lead to a little bit of playing time for dylark

Depends on the injuries and his camp performance just don't rush him, this team isn't going to be a contender so let him develop at his own pace.

Maybe a dozen games at max

Jesus man, theres a fine line of realism and pessimism and you've entered the wrong side I'm afraid.

So rushing a young promising center instead of letting him develop at his own pace is less important than maybe keeping the streak alive and having another first round exit?

I agree on Larkin, completely disagree on the other point.

I just wish everyone would stop referencing the first round exits. It's not as if the team got manhandled and embarrassed. The past 2 years we went to a game 7 and should have won both series. Yes, the team has obvious weaknesses, but they're not as far away as some believe.

No. The "this team is not a contender" statement.

Last year this team got embarrassed by Boston, this year they were better but after watching Stanley Cup playoffs is obvious that the Wings are far away from cup contention. Tampa will only get better and the West is well just loaded.

Anyhow just don't rush Mantha, Larkin and hope that Pasha can stay healthy.

They lost to Boston yes, but they didn't get embarrassed. Other then a few empty net goals and 1 really bad game the series was close. Tampa is good, they should continue to progress. It's also possible some players had career years, and will take a step back, and as always injuries happen. My point being is that a lot factors into a franchises continued success. Wings at the moment are upper middle of the pack with room to grow, it's not all so bleak.

Other then that, if Mantha and Larkin are ready they should play if not let them continue to develop.

Enough with this positive, optimistic, flower power talk.

Year before that we took the cup champs to 7 after knocking out Anaheim (who would have wiped the ice with Chicago), don't leave that out. But we lost because we suck so bad and should have tanked that year as well. You talk like we're Toronto....the Boston series was a tragedy yes, but give the guys the benefit of the doubt and at least see how they do with a new coach/system before you write them off.

As for Larkin, I don't see a need to rush him. I put zero games but he may see a few games if injuries are bad or we decide to rest the big guys after an early playoff clinch.

Tampa got a lucky bounce in game 7 versus Detroit. That was the difference. The Wings are not far away from being a legit cup contender. We can beat any team in the East. Tampa will get better. So will the Wings, Habs, Isles, Caps, Blue Jackets. There's not much separating teams.
