GMRwings1983 8,803 Report post Posted April 7, 2016 (edited) Flyers and Islanders can't take third in Atlantic b/c they're in the Metro division, so yes, best Flyers can do at this point is the remaining WC spot. Boston, however, being in Atlantic, can kick us out of 3rd and force us to fight for the WC spot. My point was, the Flyers and Isles could finish with better records than us, but they'd be relegated to Wild Card status, while we'd get to be a 3 seed just because we're in a different division. That's my understanding of the system. If so, it needs to be changed to a complete reseed. Also, maybe we can have a mini playoff for the Canadian teams. Kind of like the NIT college basketball tournament. Would be fun. Edited April 7, 2016 by GMRwings1983

There should be 8 playoff spots plus the 2 WC spots, and when the season's over, wc teams should face the 7th and 8th seeded in a 3/5 series. Then you start the playoffs. I think It would add more excitement.

Too much fatigue there. Maybe they could do a one game elimination like MLB started a few years back.

But I do think the whole WC issue adds more excitement, and stress, to the game. Specially when your team is battling for position.
Jacksoni 418 Report post Posted April 7, 2016 (edited) Tonights odds from the betmakers have Boston as a slight favorite. But it's Too slight, pointing in our direction considering our back-to-back. I.e. people are betting on us for the win. Boston Bruins 1.719 Detroit Red Wings 2.260 Edited April 7, 2016 by Jacksoni
FireCaptain 563 Report post Posted April 7, 2016 Sportsline Det +136 Bos -150 Betting on the over/under (5) is going 92% over.. people are expecting a high scoring game apparently. Oddsshark Det +126 Bos -139 59% bet the OVER. Bovada Det +125 Bos -145 Their over under is OVER (-130), under (+110). For those that don't gamble the numbers are based on a $100 bet. If the number is a plus, you bet $100 to win that amount. If the number is a minus, you have to bet that amount to win $100. So the minuses are the favored teams. 1 F.Michael reacted to this
Jersey Wing 1,521 Report post Posted April 7, 2016 Boston is going to come out tonight like they're getting home down 0-2 in a series. They're going to have to empty the guns. Now, the Wings played a tough, high intensity game last night. They'll get tired as the game moves on. Will they marshall the early energy in simply trying to turn the Bruins away or will they use it to counterpunch a desperate team. I think that'll be your difference tonight, how and where the tired Wings use their energy or in Babcockian, "compete level"
Jacksoni 418 Report post Posted April 7, 2016 (edited) Been trying to get a grasp on this game in regards to strategy but have been miserably unsuccessful. Guess I'll just put a hat on and watch. With some wine. That'll work. So no bets. Edited April 7, 2016 by Jacksoni
DickieDunn 2,571 Report post Posted April 8, 2016 (edited) I have to admit, the Wings have responded far better than I thought they would given the way the first 70+ games went. Nyquist even has been playing like he has testicles lately. If they play like this, they might have a shot in the playoffs. Edit: nevermind Edited April 8, 2016 by DickieDunn
barabbas16 499 Report post Posted April 8, 2016 Someone want to go ahead and post the percentage chance after a Wings regulation loss in Boston?
Aethernum 276 Report post Posted April 8, 2016 Someone want to go ahead and post the percentage chance after a Wings regulation loss in Boston? Still over 80%. Boston has to beat Ottawa in regulation/OT AND we have to lose to NYR to miss out on the third spot in the Atlantic. And then Philly would need three points in its final two games to knock us out of the wild card spot.
RedWingsRox 614 Report post Posted April 8, 2016 For those who knows all the possible outcomes, so what if: we lose in regulation AND Philly lose in regulation.
Aethernum 276 Report post Posted April 8, 2016 For those who knows all the possible outcomes, so what if: we lose in regulation AND Philly lose in regulation. In that case, a win against NYR clinches (this is true even if Philly wins or gets a point). Loss against NYR means Philly and Boston could knock us out if they both won out. If Philly wins tonight, they would only need to win one of their remaining two to knock us out. 1 RedWingsRox reacted to this

Aethernum 276 Report post Posted April 8, 2016 Have to win against NYR to be sure of anything at this point. Sure, if Boston loses to Ottawa, we're in. If Philly loses its next two games, we're in. But the only way to be sure is to beat NYR - it all comes down to that at this point. 1 NerveDamage reacted to this

Aethernum 276 Report post Posted April 8, 2016 (edited) Alright, so the final game of the season. Here are the possible scenarios: Regulation/OT Win - We're in. SO Win - Boston jumps us if they win in regulation/OT. Philly jumps us if they win BOTH of their remaining games. SO/OT Loss - Boston jumps us if they win. Philly jumps us if they get three points in their remaining two games. Regulation Loss - Boston jumps us with a point in their final game. Philly jumps us with two points in their remaining games. Obviously, in each case both Boston and Philly would have to jump us in the standings for us to miss the playoffs. If just Boston jumps us, we're the second wild card, and we play Washington. If just Philly jumps us, we're third in the division and play Tampa. Still basically comes down to this: If we lose, we're probably out. If we win, we're in. DickieDunn 2,571 Report post Posted April 8, 2016 50% If they show up and play like they can, they're in. If they show up like they don't care again, they're out. It's a coin flip either way.

RedWingsRox 614 Report post Posted April 8, 2016 This is why I was restrained when we beat Philly ... we are inconsistent. Yes, it was back to back but we have to do better than this at this time of year with so much on the line. I actually believe that Ottawa is the kind of team that will put their best effort in to play spoiler so that's good. NYR, they have something to play for, seeding, whether wildcard or 3rd place so ... we'll see which Detroit team shows up. Another season where we go down to game 82 ... look back at all those frustrating games that we lost ... most memorable was the 1-0 to Leafs
