bIueadams 776 Report post Posted May 9, 2022 We have 47 million committed to the cap with 7 spots open (with Fabbri and Edvinsson on the roster) We have to spend 2 million per position just to reach the cap floor. Assuming Yzerman wants to be about 10 million over the floor (like this year) for breathing room, now we have to spend 4 million per roster spot to reach the target. If we re-sign Zadina at a generous 2 mil. Walman at a generous 2 mil. And Stephens at a generous 2 mil. We have 4 spots open and have to spend 4.5 per roster position. I think it's more likely those players get 1.5 and Fabbri starts on LTIR. If that's the case we'll have to spend 4.7 on each of 5 roster spots. We're gonna need to sign some high dollar players... Yes, This is why I think we should overpay Forsberg if necessary. Even if Seider, Raymond, Larkin, Vrana, Forsberg, and Edvinsson all require 8 mil per in 2025, we'd still have room. For example, with a Beruzzi trade and Jiricek draft: Vrana (8) - Larkin (8) - Forsberg (8) Berggren (3) - Andreasson (2) - Raymond (8) Zadina (3) - Veleno (3) - Niederbach (2) Soderbom (1.5) - Rasmussen (3) - Sundquist (2.5) Stephens (1), Cotton (1) McIsaac (3) - Seider (8) Edvinsson (8) - Jiricek (2) Johansson (2) - Lindstrom (3) Wallinder (1) Cossa (2) Back up (1) Thats 84 mil total. A 10% cap increase puts it at 89 mil per season. Steve should go after Forsberg and a 2C hard this offseason. Rebuilds take time. Thats understood. But it should also be understood that rebuilds take even more time if you strike out on UFAs and continually sign 9 crappy players to 2 mil a season contracts to hit the cap floor instead of 2 really good players to 9 mil a season contracts. It also does not provide the club with additional cap-space savings that can be banked for future use while the team operates above the salary cap. Instead, LTIR provides relief if the club's averaged club salary, or payroll, begins to exceed the upper limit. The amount of relief that the club receives is calculated on the day the player is placed on LTIR. There are three equations that are used to determine the LTIR relief, the first, the basic equation, can be used during the season and during the off-season. The second, the training-camp equation, can be used on the final day of the off-season in preparation for the first day of the season. The third formula is used when the team already has a player on LTIR.

Ya, but within 3-5 years they won't be able to afford to pay all the higher end talent. Yzerman should call Montreal right now. Offer Bertuzzi, Hronek, the 8th and next years 1st unprotected for the #1 OA and take Weber's salary off their hands.
