Is Patrick Kane bad luck?

Luring an aged but productive superstar to Detroit at low cost, with the current state of the team, is masterful GM work. Wings fans... are we already spoiled again? We had no business signing Patrick Kane at all. But Yzerman got it done. Shut your mouths and appreciate it.

My favorite, and simultaneously least favorite, thing about the wings fan base has always been how spoiled we are. It's fun to look down on the inferior sub-teams when we have Lidstrom and Yzerman and Zetterberg and dominate for over a decade. And I encourage this behavior. But when we have no business bragging, STFU and appreciate what little we have. Suggesting near ppg Patrick Kane is a problem is insane, and every other team would love to have him at the price we got him.

Talking about luck is just insane in general. And yes I realize OP is a bait fish. But I feel like it's good time to point how much of a large stride we made this past year. We are on track to be looking down our nose at the rest of the league again in a few years. I truly miss the days when I could walk into a Vancouver bar on a night they're playing Nashville or something, in my Wings jersey, and both fan bases chant F the Wings. I miss being universally hated for our yankee level success so much. But fuqqing know when it's time sock betch.

Kane on what he has seen while out and where he is as far as comeback

https://www.mlive.com/redwings/2024/01/patrick-kane-on-why-red-wings-would-be-a-tough-out-in-seven-game-series.html

and another tidbit for the those that are anti Kane from https://www.mlive.com/redwings/2024/01/red-wings-look-to-manage-emotions-not-seek-retribution-vs-senators.html

Quote

Lalonde said he has no hesitation of putting Kane into a winning lineup. He referenced unfair criticism of the team’s record with the future Hall of Famer in the lineup (8-9-2).

“We want him back in when he’s healthy,” Lalonde said. “I know there’s people out there … our win-loss record with him, without him, extremely unfair because when he came on board, we were down two centers, two goalies, David Perron. We were a shadow of the lineup we are now. I don’t care who was in that lineup, we were going to have some struggles.

“He’s actually been pretty good towards the identity, surprisingly very strong with some defensive numbers. He’s not a guy who’s going to play heavy defensively, but he’s smart, he gets above, he takes good ice, he manages his game. He’s a big part of what we’re trying to do.”

So who comes out of the lineup when Kane gets back? I know the knee jerk reaction is Kostin, but wasn't the whole point of trading for Kostin that we wanted to get bigger and tougher? What would be the point of getting bullied, responding by getting tougher, then sitting your tough guys for the softest player in the league?

My vote is Fabbri. He's having a decent season and all, but it makes sense to replace a scorer with a better scorer. Perron is another solid choice but I like his on-ice leadership and he seems to really really help on the top powerplay unit.

Who else do you sit? Lark, Cat, Kane, Ray, and either DP or Fabs are the top 6. Ras-Copp-Fish are now the 3rd/Checking line. Kostin can't play center, so 4C goes to Veleno. And Sprong is a much better player. Kostin is the odd man out.

I know it's gotta be him, but I think we play bigger with him on the ice. As I said above, I could do without Fabbri.

Gotta play Fabbri while he's healthy. May not get too many more chances.
