#2376409 Crosby left the game after puck to the face

Edited the thread title to be less obnoxious.

I understand not liking Crosby, but celebrating that he got hit in the face with the puck is lame.

#2376351 Dreger: Wings 'very interested' in Bouwmeester *merged*

Posted by Carman on 30 March 2013 - 11:52 AM

Further news on Bouwmeester's awful game tonight. The highlights are here. Bouwmeester figured directly into three of the four goals-against that occurred while he was on the ice.

Goal-against 1: Bouwmeester was directly responsible for the 2-on-1 that led to this Jackets goal, as he pinched in to pick up a puck that was coming up the boards and completely whiffed on it (despite the puck being flat on the ice).
Goal-against 2: Bouwmeester completely failed to defend Calvert, who sniped it over him and into the net.
Goal-against 3: Bouwmeester failed to pick up a man coming late on the rush to his right, and also failed to intercept the pass to that player. Goal.

His other stats for the game included one shot, one hit, and zero blocks, and he was not on the ice for a single one of the Flames' goals.

This guy's first-pairing tag is very questionable. He is most assuredly not a #1 defenseman.

Kronwall hurts his team just as much as Bouwmeester does, if I had the time I would find all of his uncovered offensive zone pinches, being out of position and neutral zone risks and I could make Kronwall look just as bad. Kronwall has taken the 2nd most minors in the NHL for defenseman, that's not good for a number one guy, Bouwmeester for example has taken 8 penalities while play 25 minutes a night, while Kronwall has taken 17. That's a pretty telling statistic in today's age when penalties get called because you are caught out of position.

But let's go over the examples you gave from last night

And on that specific play by bouwmeester on that 2 on 1, Hudler completely abandoned being the high man after Bouwmeester saw him, and already committed, and if I'm in the film room would blame him, not bouwmeester. Bouwmeester saw Hudler make his way to cover, and Hudler didn't cover after Bouwmeester already committed. Pinching isn't a bad thing, especially when you see you have a high man.

And you're going to blame him for taking the pass away on a 2 on 1 on the Calvert goal? What level of hockey did you play? As a defenseman on a 2 on 1, your job is to take away the pass and keep the puck carrier to an outside shot, Bouwmeester did his job, and he didn't let him get in on the goalie. I'm confused on how that's at all his fault.

And once again on the third goal, his forward Stempniak gave absolutely no effort on the back check, and it was a 3 on 2, if he leaves the middle of the ice Prospal has an easy path to the goal. That goal is also on Stempniak for not skating hard and taking the late man, it's not on Bouwmeester leaving the middle of the ice to take a late man.

True, it kind of falls apart when you think that without the rancher, the cows live a nice long life, and without the owners, the players have to either play in lower leagues/go play overseas or go get real jobs.

It falls apart when you consider that if all the players left for some other league, then that league would become the best in the world.

i know that people are entitled to their own opinion, but i can't see how Konstantinov can be anything other than the best answer.

#2305487 Would you make this trade?

Posted by LeftWinger on 05 June 2012 - 08:19 PM

Franzen led the team in GWG during the regular season and the playoffs.

Don't forget that.

Never will! Man we'd never have won those games without those GWG's! He had more than Pav and Hank combined! Throw this guy $7M!

#2305238 Vokoun moved to Pittsburgh for a 7th Round pick.

Posted by haroldsnepsts on 04 June 2012 - 06:51 PM

Why would Washington trade him to a rival for such a low pick?

I didn't think Vokoun played all that badly for the Caps.

They just traded away his rights for the pick. I get that it was to a rival, but he was set to be a UFA July 1 and I'm guessing the Caps knew he wasn't staying. Maybe they figured better to get something out of it before he walks.

#2303477 Excellent 'Parise and Suter to Detroit' article

Posted by centcougar07 on 28 May 2012 - 03:30 AM

1. The numbers: The numbers of all our 'core' or 'star' players (including Yzerman/Shanahan/Chelios/Hull/Hasek/ect.) are and have been falling in past years save for Zetterberg.
2. IMO, there are no prospects with real star potential to replace these guys that are getting older and watching their production fall. I think Datsyuk is the closest thing to that and even he could be a bust. And even if he makes something of himself, is it going to be Sergei Fedorov something? Not likely.
3. It all starts and stops with Yzerman for me. I think his retirement (be it this year or the next) is going to be the beginning of the end of our ten year run. It always seems to me that when Stevie goes, we go. He's the leader of this team without question and it's going to be hard to compensate for the loss of him.

Did you mean a bit chubby?

Isn't "nice personality" and "psycho" a complete contradiction? I mean, unless you are a sociopathic psychotic yourself and think of psychos as having "nice personalitites", lol.

But I digress...

After reading your response, I think you just described yourself. But I digress.

#2302849 Vote for the NHL 13 cover player

Posted by PredsFanTheBayouState on 23 May 2012 - 03:42 PM

I want to know what is on that wall...

You call it a stupid contest and then say letting the fans vote is a great idea...which one is it?

i was quoting the poster that callled it a stuipd contest, but I think it is a great idea to let the fans vote for the player they think should be on the cover, datsyuk is not the only player that deserves to be on the cover

#2302066 The truth of our decline.

Posted by Richdg on 18 May 2012 - 01:36 PM

Made this handy little spread sheet. it covers the 5 of our top 6 forwards that are signed for next season. has the names, ages, and 3 stats for each year from 2008 through 2012. Those stats are: GP=games played, PTS=points, and shts=shoots on goal. Black numbers are no change or improved, red numbers are declines.
Name----Age--------------------2008 2009 2010 2011 2012
--------------------------------GP PTS shts GP PTS shts GP PTS shts GP PTS shts GP PTS shts

Zetterberg--32-------------75 92 358 77 73 309 74 70 309 80 80 306 82 69 267

Datsyk----34---------------- 82 97 264 81 97 248 80 70 203 56 59 137 70 67 164

Franzen----33---------------72 38 199 71 59 246 27 21 91 76 55 248 77 56 211

Burtuzzi----37---------------68 40 121 66 44 127 82 44 216 81 45 138 71 38 118

Cleary---34------------------63 42 177 74 40 163 64 34 140 68 46 192 75 33 199

Now for some follow up. Of the 15 numbers for each player, dat has 9 reds. meaning he is declinging just about every year, in just about every catagory. it would be worse but his numbers this year are improved over 2011 when he was hurt. But his 2012 numbers are worse than his 2010 numbers. Second in red numbers is Z. he has 7 out of 15 in red. Cleary has 6 out 15 in red. Burt also has 6 out of 15 in red. franzen has declined the fewest times. Only 5 red numbers. The number that stands out to me the most, is dat's decline in shots. In 2008 he took 264 shots. Then followed by 248, 203, 137, and finally 164 this past year. Granted he played 12 fewer games, but he had 103 fewer shots! That is a 38% drop!

None of us want to se a bad RW team. We all want to win Cups every year. But we also have to face facts. The fact is we need to find our next pair of great forwards that can lead us for the next 10 years. We started this run with Yzerman and federov, then continued it with dat and Z. No where in our organization do we have 2 guys that are potential 80 point per year guys. This is Holland's big challenge. Do we trade? Sign FA's? move up in the draft somewhere?
My personnel opinion is they need to be C's. A wing by himself can't do it. A good sniper-like parise is, can't score if no one can get him the puck. One last thing. Please understand the difference between good and great. dat and Z are still good players. They are not great players anymore. They will continue to work hard, provide leadership, and score 60 to 75 points for a few more years. But they are not guys that can carry a team anymore. help carry yes, but we have to find the next pair to do the heavy lifting.

Chart was fixed, loaded poorly.....

#2301101 Babcock and Holland want to keep Homer.

Posted by LeftWinger on 13 May 2012 - 08:39 PM

I plussed you for having a pornstar in your avatar.

As for Homer, he probably should retire. He's accomplished a tremendous amount in his career and his given this team a lot. At this point, he has nothing to prove and this team needs to get younger and hungrier. I don't want this to turn into Draper and Maltby all over again.

Ya! Thanks for noticing! Anyhow, someone is just going thru and negging everything I say now. It's not because they disagree with me, I know this because someone gets pluses for list the top 10 things Holland will say and I simply reply, nice to meet you Mr. Holland and it gets a neg. No biggie. When their son grows up swallowing a sword, they at least will know why...
