    History Will be Made

I honestly think it was just a case of him needing a change of scenery. For some reason or another, he just didn't thrive in Detroit. He's meshed well in Philly and for that I say good for him.

No one should be surprised at what Leino is doing in Philly. He has good offensive instincts and is a good player. I remember only a couple of people sticking up for him around here, and now look at all of you. All it took was him playing with good players. Also, I think Philly's toughness has rubbed off on him and he digs a lot more now. Leino is a good fit for the Flyers. Kenny made the right choice at the time, considering the circumstances. I just can't see why he signed Jason Williams, it was a bad signing. Now, since Kenny says he wants a gritty fourth liner, that means that he's going to pick up a 35+ year old to fill that role. FYI...the wings still have never won a cup without some type of enforcer on the team. Whether, it's a coincidence or not is a different story, but that's another debate.

Leino played on a line with Filppula and with other fairly good players for awhile. No dice. He was lazy and he generally sucked. Holland wouldn't have traded him otherwise; as you may have noticed, loyalty is a keystone of this franchise, and so players very rarely get traded unless there's something genuinely wrong with how they're playing. We needed the cap space and Leino wasn't willing to put forth his all, and so he's gone. Quincey had every chance to prove himself. He got time in the regular season and he played a bunch of games in the '07 playoffs. He didn't even show a glimmer of the offensive talent he has exhibited over the past two seasons. Meech, on the other hand, played quite well when he was thrust into essentially a #1 defense slot during the injury spell in '08. That's why Meech stayed and Quincey did not. What you're doing here is bitching. You are making complaints that have absolutely no basis in reality. You are engaging in a course of egregious hindsight criticism. What's your problem?

How long into the season was Filppula injured? Six weeks? How many goals did Leino score during the time that that line was together? Get back to me with that number. Offseason blunders, ya. Right. Let's start with Holland's inability to violate the salary cap. Clearly that's a big problem of his. Next let's move on to Samuelsson. He was signed early by the Canucks; Holland was trying to sign Hudler, as Hudler was an RFA, and so there was no chance to offer big money to Samuelsson off the bat. Signing Hossa would have required trading Filppula. Holland wasn't willing to do this. As for Hudler, are you serious? You're really? blaming Holland for failing to retain Hudler? Hudler jumped ship for the $5m per year, tax free, that he was offered by Moscow Dynamo. Did I mention that you were irrationally bitching? I'll mention the "irrational bitching" again. Oh, and you're right, because players never come to the Wings as busts and end up being successful.

Why? Because they claimed Miller off waivers because we had so many injuries. Once Franzen came back we had too many players and were over the cap so someone had to go. Miller had earned himself a roster spot with his play and Leino hadn't, so Ville was traded. If Leino had played for Detroit this season like he has played for Philly in the playoffs maybe he wouldn't have been traded. Plus I don't think its fair to pin this on Holland, its pretty clear that Babcock never liked him.

Are you implying that Leino chose to leave? I think he just wanted to play on a line with skill players, and Babcock wouldnt let him do it without first serving time on the forth line with scrubs. Ville will be a 30 goal scorer in this league, and we gave him away. I'm getting sick of Keeny giving away good talent for nothing. Or maybe its Babcock's coaching. How could we keep Meech in favor of Quincy, or Williams instead of Leino? How can the Red Wings as an organization so blatently miss talent like that?!

    The Curse of Marian Hossa

Leino and the Underdog Flyers for sure. I don't know if you saw Leighton interviewed after the game a real moment, the guys got heart been on waivers five times; it be nice if he could hold back the Hawks lethal attack.

Why would anyone want MTL to win.

Yes... but imagine the satisfaction of witnessing the fans make complete asses of themselves on a national level.

Why would anyone want MTL to win.

Their fans have booed the US National Anthem one too many times. I can't root for them, as much as I hate Pronger and the Flyers.

    The Curse of Marian Hossa

My point is your team rarely gets top tier talent without sucking for a number of years. Detroit was just less lucky than Chicago was in the process. s*** happens, and with the salary cap it is easier for a team to rebound due to the abundance of players demanding raises from solid teams and having to be bumped to weaker ones. It has nothing to do with drafting. Drafting has been the same for quite some time.

    A little conspiracy in Montreal?

You know what else would slow the Flyers down? Getting more than one shot on goal per period

Trade Joe Thornton to Toronto for Tomas Kaberle, Mikhail Grabovski, and a first round pick. Trade Dany Heatley to Florida for Stephen Weiss, Michal Frolik, and a second round pick. Trade Dan Boyle to Dallas for Matt Niskanen, Fabian Bruunstrom, Toby Petersen, and a second round pick. Sign Patrick Marleau to a deal worth $6.5m-$7m per year for 3-5 years. Sign Jose Theodore, Martin Biron, or Marty Turco to a deal worth $1.5m-$2m. Let Nabokov walk, trade his negotiating rights before July 1st if possible. In other words: F: Thornton, Heatley for Weiss, Grabovski, Frolik, Bruunstrom, Petersen D: Boyle for Kaberle, Niskanen G: Nabokov for Theodore/Biron/Turco No, the top line is not the ridiculous line it was. But it allows the Sharks to roll three solid scoring lines with skilled personnel. Kaberle for Boyle is a fair swap, with $2m off the books. Niskanen comes in as a bonus providing solid play to the D. No, Theodore, Biron, and Turco are not Nabokov. But here's the kicker; Nabokov is slightly better than those guys. Making the changes I stated is more of a positive than swapping out Nabokov for Theodore/Biron/Turco would be a negative. Plus in my dealings I've dropped $4m-$5m off the Sharks' cap hit and picked up a couple of picks. Figure the Sharks then add one more solid defenseman like Kubina to the group, or maybe a forward like Frolov. Could get scary.

He's the most complete Russian forward. Whether that means "best" is up for debate. Datsyuk, Ovechkin, Malkin and Kovelchuk have all had terrible seasons though. At least Datsyuk can finish with a bit of a high note.

So Yzerman and Shanahan didnt have heart?McCarty didn't have heart?none of them worked hard? What about a guy like Mike Richards?he doesn't have heart or work hard? What a ridiculously stupid comment to make when you have nothing to back it up.Olli Jokinen does not have what I consider heart.Everyone knows he causes problems within the team he's playing for.Just an all around idiotic thing to say.wow.

Wow. Care to show some evidence of that fact? Growing up in the US, I played against teams from all over the US and Canada at the AA and AAA levels. The style of play was not much different, and I don't see how a large divergence could occur between midgets (15-18 year olds) and the higher levels. As far as heart and work-ethic are considered, I would be weary of making over-arching judgments on any country. Back on topic- I am glad to see Huds back. Unfortunately, he might (should) be on the third line to give us another scoring line. He'll also get PP time, so hopefully be can still get 15+ min a night.
