Definitely the Whale. I grew up in CT and my first NHL games were always in Hartford. It was a great place to see a game, and they even had some good players.

WTF was NBC thinking? At least we know that the Cup won't be awarded on Versus, yet another sign that the NHL needs to dump their current TV deal ASAP. Hartnell is one fugly human being, or an average-looking ape.

Winnipeg for sure. More teams for the country where the game is loved so much and not cared for at all in cities such as Phoenix. Uncle Gary could have that one backfire huuuuge.

Sidney Crosby - The most hated player in the NHL

I need to remind Ovechkin, Chara, and other non-Canadians that are constantly marketed that they are, in fact, Canadian after all.

No, it's the 70+ seasons that make them our rival.

    Holmstrom signs 2 year extension

No such person exists. This summer's UFA class is one of the weakest in recent memory. Also, everyone should note the following about Nolan, Armstrong and Torres: 1) Over the last four seasons, Torres has played in only 157 of 324 games. In other words, he has been injured more than 50% of the time. That's not good. 2) Nolan had a 25-goal season in '08-'09, but that season was an anomaly; aside from that season, he has not scored more than 20 goals since '02-'03. Bear in mind that he scored only 16 goals last year playing 2nd-line minutes. He's older than Bertuzzi; he costs more; he scores less; and he in general brings less to the table. 3) Armstrong made $2.4m last year and has made it clear that he expects a raise ((link); the front office in Atlanta has noted that the salary he is demanding and the salary that Atlanta is willing to pay him are disparate enough that contract talks have been broken off at present. This would seem to indicate that he's looking for more than $3m. There's flat-out no chance that Holland will give him an amount comparable to what Filppula, Hudler, Kronwall and Cleary are making, as Armstrong brings considerably less to the ice than any of those four; and I'm not sure the Wings can even afford what he's asking. In any event, I'd argue that he's overpaid even at $2.4m; many Thrashers fans seem to agree. I give it little chance that any of the three will end up in Detroit, and for good reason.

Im just curious but since babcock and holland seem to be expecting a lot out of Hudler why so many are putting him on the third line. With his offensive potential, I would better assume he is on the 1a or 1b line.

    Ben Eager

Sorry. You are clueless. Datsyuk is the very definition of gritty. Tenacious back-checker, tenacious stick lifter, able to knock the biggest bodies in the NHL on their cans to get the puck, routinely goes into the corners against 2-3 defenders and gets the puck, will throw punches if necessary, has lead in the 'hits' column in many, many important games. The guy IS grit and would knock Ben Eager on his ass without blinking... oh, and take the puck and score. Seriously. Get a clue. Eager is just a plugger that gets a bone once in a while. The only way he can stay in the league is by running around like a chicken with his head cut off hoping for a break.

    Ville Leino Appreciation Thread

The point is, he was a rookie. Not every rookie comes out of the gate blazing. They pitched him after half a season and he really didn't give him a chance. This is like when Howard played one game last season and everyone s*** on him after the game even though it was a complete lack of defense that cost them the game. Leino played during the worst part of the worst season in 20 years. He got the short end of the stick. Plain and simple.

please chicago win the stanley cup

this post is so dumb, i would much rather the flyers win, and if someone argues pronger is better then lidstrom they clearly have mental issues.

That would be a terrible exchange. Zetterberg is a premier shutdown, two-way forward in the NHL, who has led the team in playoff scoring the last three seasons, and leads the league in playoff goals scored since the lockout. Kovalchuk is just a guy that can pick a corner. Which is a neat trick, the Wings could use a guy like that, but certainly not at the expense of a player of Hank's caliber.

I have been flirting with this topic all year round. We just look washed up, I'd hate to say it but we do. It's hard to be optimistic. So what we get a greedy, tiny player easy to push off the puck...? woopety doo. Truth is: Lidstrom is good, but isn't getting any younger and has shown wear. Rafalski's game is fading and isn't worth his pay. If Zetterberg puts up numbers again like last year, between his injuries and lack of desire I'd say trade him... sorry fanboys If Franzen has anymore concussions the smart move would to be trade damaged goods while you still have value. Howard Choked in the playoffs, good games sure. He also had some bad one's, too inconsistent. Too much dead weight on the roster from loyalty (Draper, Maltby, Osgood) Kronwall has been lackluster the last two years, and is injury prone. Don't even get me started on this one; DAN CLEARY DOESN'T DESERVE HIS CONTRACT I'm sure he'll be out another 50 games with some type of injury next season, get him to waive his NTC and ship him out please. Lebda must go Meech must go We're too old and slowing down This team will not go far next year, IF they make the playoffs honestly... They look alot like the Pistons do right now, great for years but dynasty came to an end.. the salary cap is causing this.

Seriously, I hope I am wrong but this team is not going to win the Cup. Lidstrom is one of the greatest defensemen to ever play the game, but so is Bobby Orr and I don't think anyone wants Orr on their blueline right now. 6.5 million for Lidstrom is too much at this point of his career. Yeah, I love the guy but I love winning Cups more than I love any one player and paying him that much money in the cap world at this point in time is not the best thing if we wanna win cups. I really hate how this site has come to be a place where you can't say anything bad about the Wings. Unless you call the team the best ever assembled and are all sunshine and flowers about their chances to win, you get told you're not a true fan. I have not let the media get to me. I watch the games. Lidstrom and others are MUCH slower than they used to be and less effective. This team is not tough enough for the playoffs, as evidenced by San Jose manhandling our team. And the scary thing is then San Jose got beat up by the Hawks.

Ron MacLean saves a man's life

I know someone who was going thru a hard time and try to take thier own life...and now 22 yrs later she is the best thing that has ever happened to me, so I married her. She's pregnant with our child right now. Looking at her now, no one would ever believe she ever tried to kill herself. She doesn't waste a moment, overfilling with life, motivates me, challenges me, and inspires me. Good job Ron and "other guy".
