I'll take Ethan Moreau on this team, I don't tihnk he has a cup(?), very physical, warrior type player and could be the perfect Dallas Drake for next season. -

Hate the guy, but he would easily be one of my favorites if he played for the Wings. -

"Detroit sucks" chant at Cup celebration?

Just further proof how insecure the Hawks "fans" are about their team...still. Pretty pathetic when your team just won their first Cup since the 60's and all you seem to care about is how Wings fans feel about it. -

Hudler+4th line grinder
redwingfan19 reacted to Bannedforlife for a post in a topic
I guess it depends on your definition of shake up. I believe Ken is the kind of GM who would never move one of his players once he has identified them as part of his core. Cleary doesn't fall into that group, but Flip and Kronwall certainly do. Even if he ever does decide to make some moves, I doubt it would happen next year. Lidstrom will most likely retire, and whoever he brings in as his replacement will be all the shaking we will see for a while. Speaking of which, Weber, Doughty, Seabrook, Johnson, Schenn and Yandle will all be RFAs next year, and Markov and Chara will be UFAs. If Kenny were to pull off one of those promising RFAs with an offer sheet, I think that would be one of the most impressive things he has accomplished in his time as GM. -

Leafs changing jersey; naming Phaneuf captain
Original-Six reacted to newfy for a post in a topic
I don't know how ppl can say this is a bad move. The leafs have been captainless ever since Sundin left and it seems like there is absolutely noone taking leadership in that room. Phaneuf is a young guy who has a norris nomination to his name, will lay his body on the line to win, sticks up for his teammates, and has the potential to be one of the better defenseman of his era. He might be overhyped, but he is still a good player, people on this site refuse to acknowledge that for some reason because they don't like him. Noone knows how he is in the room so maybe he is a leader in the room as well. Good choice by the leafs to finally name a captain. -

Cheechoo fell apart after he didnt have Thornton feeding him passes. -
1 pointHeck, with Huds back in the lineup, we could get rid of Datsyuk and Franzen and still be overwhelming favorites to win the Cup. What's he good for these days, 300 points? 350 if he plays a full 82, I bet.

1 pointWhen you start talking about the Wings chances of winning the cup, there is one very important point you have to consider. First, let's take a look at the 11 Stanley Cups that the Wings DID win. With those 11 cups the Wings were NEVER in the bottom half of the seeds of the playoff teams. In the seven cup victories before 1996 the Wings were FIRST seed every time. In 1996-1997 the Wings were THIRD seed. In 1997-1998 the Wings were THIRD seed. In 2001-2002 the Wings were FIRST seed. In 2007-2008 the Wings were FIRST seed. Now, because the Wings are in the Western Conference and the West Coast teams are getting better, it is more important than ever that the Wings finish in the top three seeds (maybe four). At the end of the Wings run this year several players did indeed say that fatigue was an issue. When you are in the bottom four seeds, obviously, travel is an issue when you have to fly to the West coast through three time zones for the first 2 games of the opening two series. That means there is a possibility for 3 trips to the west coast in each series or 6 trips to the west coast in the first 2 series if they go 7 games.... just unreal. I really don't know how a team can do that in a grueling series and still survive. NO TEAM travels further unless it is a west coast team coming to a combination of Detroit, Columbus &/or Nashville to start their first two series and that was unlikely in the past but may change if Columbus improves. Babcock may try to use his psychobabble to convince his players that it is no big deal..... but the human body says differently. The effects of travel and the recovery time of travel on the human body is a PROVEN medical fact. And this is the reason why I always stress young fresh speedy legs that never quit. So if the Wings stay in the Western Conference and want to win the cup they simply have to finish in the top half of the seeds, since we are unlikely to see a powerhouse dominating team that simply will skate over everyone else. In view of this the Wings were doomed last year when they got off to the very poor start in the first 10 games.... they really never recovered as the injuries mounted. The travel was the main reason why I was really hoping the Wings would face the Blackhawks in the first round. The Wings had a good chance to face the Blackhawks in the first round but they decided they wanted the highest seed possible. The Blachhawks were vulnerable in the first round and Nashville almost pulled it off if it wasn't for the major flub in game 5 (which they should have won), of allowing a short-handed goal when they could have closed the game out on a power play. That was the turning point for the Hawks. So, in summarizing, if the Wings want a chance at the cup it will depend on whether the Hawks can keep their team mostly together, if the Wings can win the central division, and if the Wings get off to a very good start next season, IMHO.

The Curse of Marian Hossa
teebo reacted to RockyMountainWingGal for a post in a topic
Hossa had never owned anyone's ass. That's why he was with 4 clubs in just over 2 years. I don't need to search for reasons to dislike him - he's provided enough. Moving from team to team to cherry pick a Stanley Cup. I'm a Red Wings fan and he was a big part of costing us one - Red Wings trump any positive feelings i ever had for Hossa. Enough anyways. He's gone thankfully and Chicago will be looking for a way to trade him in a few years... -

1. He scored 3 goals in the first three series of the postseason (before spraining his MCL). 2. He scored 24 goals in 57 games for the Hawks after his surgery. Lingering effects my ass. Call a spade a spade, guys. -

But it isn't just this playoff that he sucked. It is damn near every year. His CAREER points/game regular season 770/832 = 0.925 playoffs 91/120 = 0.758 This is a HUGE difference No excuses of being injured can explain away 10 years of poor playoff production. Now we have the curse of Ville Leino. 2 SCF losses in a year playing for 2 different teams.... Can he make it 3? -

Cry me a river. This guy's got more excuses than a politician in Washington. Who's not banged up in the SCF? I don't hear other guys complaining about it - they still do their job - bruises, bone chips and all. I just don't get why Wings fans still defend this guy. We are minus one Cup alot to do with him. Glad he's not on our team - good riddance. -

Not to be argumentative but I don't think that Pronger has much higher education under his belt. Either way the guy is better on his toes with media responses than Burish is apparently... http://watch.tsn.ca/nhl/clip312491#clip312491 I like Pronger a teensy bit more after those quips. -

Let me get this straight... 1) I say the factual statement that Burish is a scrub compared to Pronger, and would most probably lose in a fight against him, despite Burris's bravado. 2) You call me out and accuse me of hypocrisy through means of sarcasm 3) I respond that if we can't critique players, there is no point to this forum, as we are doing exactly what you previously chastised. That's how I see it, if I'm somehow missing something please take the time to elaborate, instead of making another account as a sockpuppet to argue this fact. There is a reason why you have a resounding -6 on your post, without me even negging it. -
