Is Vancouver the team to beat?

Alot of us here believe that Luongo is a sieve and has a s***ty attitude. That's why we don't fear your team. And considering that he has never really done anything to prove otherwise, I guess you're just gonna have to deal with it.

You should know that I really don't care what you have to say about my character. Mmmhmm... and all the other games I mentioned... Um, so sorry; Cleary was, as a direct result of his jaw injury, far from in peak condition during the '08 playoffs. Having major reconstructive surgery on one's jaw is a very serious process, and it leaves one incapacitated for some time. I wouldn't be surprised if Cleary was unable to fully skate for a month afterwards, and he certainly wasn't able to engage in conditioning drills and/or standard team practices. After he came back from injury---knowing him, he almost certainly did so as soon as he possibly could---he had very little time before the team went into the playoffs (in which, as we know, the most physically intense hockey of the season is played). Do you know how much conditioning was almost certainly lost in between? Well, apparently you don't, and apparently you also don't know the effect that such would have on anyone's play. And given that I did quite a bit of study on that sort of thing in my university major, I think I know quite a bit more about it than you do. Yes, I'm pulling rank here. Call me arrogant. And so sorry, but the his performances in the playoffs of '07 and '09 really support my point here. It is my opinion that he has nowhere near the defensive capabilities of either Filppula or Cleary. It's very silly for you to be pointing at my opinion and calling it 'wrong'. You can choose to either agree or disagree---to whatever degree---with my opinion on this matter; that's pretty much the extent of your options in this situation.

The defending champs will always have that aura of winning the Cup, but the Hawks have lost a ton of depth that they wouldn't have won without. IMO, they're a playoff team, but have taken a few steps back from a bonafide Cup contender. And to think we all wanted Holland to trade Datsyuk for Luongo years ago.

No one is amused by your sarcasm. Contrary to your own beliefs, when people read your posts, you do not come off as the genius, educated, and comedic persona that you so clearly wish to be, but rather the stereotypical internet ******. Just because you think you're witty, doesn't mean you have a strong argument. You are putting words in my mouth, as I have never once said anything to the effect of playoffs not being important, but rather that 7 games is a small sample size. Judging him by that amount of games makes as much sense of judging Dan Cleary's scoring potential in our 08 Cup Run WHEN HE WAS NOT INJURED. Now that we've gotten your logical fallacies and miscomprehension of my point out of the way, we get to your incredibly presumptuous statement that he is garbage defensively. You seem to have a problem with confusing your opinion with fact. How well he played defensively, is an arbitrary observation, one in which you and I disagree. This is normally not a big deal, but seeing as you continuously spout off your opinions in the form of factual statements, it is understandable why people would like to argue with you. Seeing as my point of view (of Lombardi being a good defensive player) is supported by countless GM's coaches, and TSN panel members, your statements to the contrary come off as egotistical, as you are insinuating you know more then a whole host of credible people.

Yeah, because playoff performance means absolutely nothing! Of course, let's not forget his performances against the Wings during the last regular season and when he was a member of the Flames. Etc. He's fast and he has a decent shot and can occasionally make a good pass, and that's about it. He's a one-way forward.

Simon Gagne waives no trade clause

How about no? If the Flyers wouldn't pay what Nabokov wanted, then I find it unlikely that they'll shell out $5m this year for Thomas.

Their forum, for the most part, is upset with losing Gagne and would rather trade Jeff Carter.

Well, let's see... I did see him in, you know, the entire seven-game playoff series the Wings played against the Coyotes.

Sorry, but you don't just 'plug' holes that Versteeg, Ladd and Buff left with just anybody. Just because there are new bodies in place doesn't mean it's a push to who they replaced. If they can ship Campbell... maybe I will consider them dangerous again and that depends on who they pick up. Head to head, as the rosters stand with plugs for Chicago in place, the Wings hand them their lunch. If Chicago has two significant injuries during the season, they will be chasing the pack like we were last season. Except I don't think they will have the chemistry to pull it out like we did. Nor the goaltending. I'd be pretty nervous if I were a s***hawks fan.

To be fair, at this stage of their careers, I think Lombardi is better than both Cleary and Filppula. Another thing that is never talked about when comparing salaries is the actual %age of cap hit and adjusting for inflation. For example, 6.7 million when Dat's signed for it, was a lot more of the cap then it is now, so it is only natural for each year the same quality of players would get more money.

TSN: Discussion of Modano To Wings

If Jason Williams was once an all-star and consistent ppg, a still defensively responsible forward who puts up .5 ppg, and a great leader then yeah.

I'd rather have Miller right now. He worked his ass off, shut down on the PK, and would chip in a spectacular goal every 30 games or so. Mike would be great to have, but I don't want him in lieu of anyone of the guys we have now... Except Bertuzzi of course.

Parents sue because kids suck at hockey

Really, really, your kid gets cut and you call a lawyer, this is a direct result of the "Everyone gets a trophy" society we live in now. Guess what folks, the world is not fair, ask the millions of people without jobs, and the ones who can't get jobs because employers are seeking "People Currently Employed" Friggin' stupid parents, teach your kid to buck up and deal with it, eventually he will need to learn that lesson, and when he does, oh boy will it hurt. They hurt poor Daniel's dignity, boo friggin' hoo One of the most famous stories in sports is how at age 14/15 Micheal Jordan got cut from his high school basketball team, he used it to become the best of his era, and if I compared generations maybe the best of all time!

Solid goaltending with every Central team now. Well, that team in Chicago in my mind still has a problem but they have that one trophy too.

Is Vancouver the team to beat?

I'm not sure I can do that chief. Your post may haunt me the rest of my life. As a matter of fact, I'm on the verge of tears at this very moment. Hell, I may need an ambulance to take me to the hospital for a dose of IV Valium. Is Valium strong enough? I don't know. I may need a horse tranquilizer instead. Yeah, that's it. I won't call an ambulance -- I'll call a vet. He'll fix me up with a couple ounces of that stuff and I may be able to cope with those harsh words o9f yours that you're forcing me to deal with. Is the Guiness Book of World Records still around? Cause I think I just set a new high water mark for sarcasm. And I did it through all those tears.

Is Vancouver the team to beat?

One bad game two years ago; otherwise a solid playoffs. A fairly solid effort this playoffs considering the state of the Canucks defence. You know how ridiculous the injuries on defence were -- right? It was brutal -- and now the defense has been addressed by Gillis. I guess I just imagined all the panic and the Flames watching going on around here towards the end of the season. Look, I know it's human nature to devalue opposing players and overvalue your own, but I try to be as objective as possible. Luongo is still fairly young. Devaluing him now based on his performance over essentially one calendar year may be foolish. Kipper is older than Luongo and had 3 or 4 years in a row where his play deteriorated, last year he was back with a vengeance. I'm not laughing at him anymore -- except for maybe when he abandoned ship in the Olympics.
