I think you're harping on the guy a little too much. Did it eve occur to you that he didn't want to rush into this decision because he MIGHT not have that passion and he doesn't want the Red Wings to give him a contract if he's not going to honor it properly. He could just take the contract they offered the quit working half-way through the season. Modano seems to wanna make sure he wants to play hockey period - I don't think it's specifically geared toward the Red Wings. If losing Ritola to have one of the best Top 9 group of forwards in the league has to happen, then I'd accept it. Maybe Ritola could pan out to be a solid 3rd liner for a few years, but I don't see it. He didn't do much to impress in the AHL during his 3 seasons, and I don't see him blowing up. I could be wrong, and if I am I'll eat crow. If we were losing someone like Tatar or Mursak then I'd be 100% against it, but to me Ritola just isn't that impressive. If Modano can put up a 40-50 point season while playing on the 3rd line for around 1 million then it's worth it, IMO. And yes, I think 40 points is realistic. He out up 30 points in 59 games last season playing with the likes of Barch and Petersen.

Good for Pavs. He now can school other hockey players in more ways than just on the ice.

They need to make this into a TV show.

By default, they HAD to get picks. They can't afford to trade for any players. It's a fire sale. He may be a great GM but this isn't a demonstration of it. He's forced into this action. It's not genius or cleverness, it's the only thing he CAN do. And picks hardly ever pan out. It could work for them, but they'll have to suck for 3 or 4 years to get to that point. Teams like the Wings can be great without having to suck for years to dive for picks.

So if this works out for San Jose are they just going to let Devin Setoguchi go? I am not sure they will be better than they were last year. Hjalmarsson is an upgrade over a 40 year old Blake so their D will be better but their goaltending situation is much worse and now their offense isn't going to be as good as they also lost Malhotra and have not signed, nor will they have the cap space to sign, a decent replacement forward for either of those guys so I am really not that worried about San Jose. They only have 5 forwards signed that had at least 20 points last year (Draper had 22 points last year for goodness sake). Does anyone else agree? Or am I missing something?

Red Wings Making Play for Modano

26 pages of discussion about Mike Modano? Seriously? I understand those that wouldn't mind seeing him here, but it's not like he's someone anyone would kill to have on their team. Personally, I hope he just retires and fades away. I'm normally good for the home-town angle, but Modano doesn't offer a whole heck of a lot IMHO and he's an ass besides. If he signs here, I won't be Hatcher or Bertuzzi upset, but if he retires or signs elsewhere, good luck and God speed.

The Latest On Detroit's #6 Defensemen

Well...maybe not always...but every other game he does look a little out of depth...even for AHL level. That said he has other games where he takes everything in his stride. He's inconsistant in the extreme.

Our bottom six now had Jiri Hudler? Do you know what our bottom lines lack MORE than scoring? Grit. Toughness. The ability to go out there and crash and bang and create some energy for the rest of the team to feed off. Something the 08 team had. Modano isnt exactly a massive increase scoring depth anyway is it? His numbers have been increasingly declining since the lockout. So Im getting minused for my OPINION that Modano doesnt give us anything we lack, whilst you sit on your high horse "basically admitting" you've no idea that a team needs to be balanced in all aspects of the game to win a Cup? Interesting.

We don´t need a back-up plan. With or without Modano, this is a team, that can win the cup!

+/- increases the size of my Epenis. I just don't like to see people (not just me) having their posts with that red box despite the fact there's nothing wrong with what they've written.

Red Wings Making Play for Modano

Someone pro-Modano went on a minus spree on page 24. Some people need to grow up an realise you don't just minus posts you don't agree with. The whole plus/minus thing isn't for people's opinions, it's how they're put across. (waits for this post to be minsued to prove my point)

    Sharks sign RFA Niklas Hjalmarsson

Radulov was under contract as well, but once again, is another Russian... as is Tverdosky... most French or English speaking players won't want to go to the KHL unless they are from the North Baltic regions, as the lifestyle is not optimal for non-Russian speaking players and the medical attention is ATROCIOUS and downright dangerous at times as well... Nylander is in the SEL, not the KHL by the way - much better relationship between the 2 leagues Please show me an article from him actually suggesting this as a solution, I am yet to find one. I never called anyone asinine, I merely said that the suggestion that the KHL was a realistic destination for a player making 5.6m US (which he would forfeit to jump over there) was asinine - not the person, nor the debate. That was my point of view on the whole topic as well... I never took anything you said to be disrespectful and never intended any of my points to be either... Any sources? If there are credible sources suggesting this, I would genuinely like to read them and I think it would add a LOT more validity to this argument in my mind...

    Sharks sign RFA Niklas Hjalmarsson

I could maybe agree if they had been able to retain even ONE of Hjalmarsson, Ladd, Versteeg, Byfuglien... who else am I forgeting? They won the cup, and that counts for a hell of a lot, and no one can take that away, but still, I don't see how Stan Bowman has done anything remarkable. All of the picks they've aquired are not a result of great management, they were aquired in spite of bad management. Having draft picks is nowhere near the same thing as having a cup-winning roster. I'd like to see the actual numbers, but how many picks/prospects actually pan out at the NHL level? I also think its reasonable to believe that a good majority of those picks/prospects will eventually be traded again in the next several years when the Hawks finally have some cap and need to get some actual players, instead of the 1 year scrub contracts they will likely have next season.

That's cool. Guess he's preparing for a job he'll have when he moves back home. Joe Dumars also has a degree in (business) management.

4 years, $14 million. Another one bites the dust. Vince Vaughn's going to be the Hawks' No. 5 defenseman at this rate.
