Nah it's just there's alot of positives from this offseason and in hindsight i'm sort of glad, in a way, that detroit finished early after all the long runs... i expect lots of good things this season... I'll probably be closer to the real mindfly ( ) when they're on a 4game losing streak and play below their potential Wondered what happend to Elin... she just disappeared

I like this signing a lot. Lilja wasn't happy in his place on the team, he wanted more opportunity than anything else, and there was just no way he was going to crack the top 4 on a consistent basis. Salei is a solid cheap depth defenseman, I don't care how old someone is on a one year deal. If the Wings think he's good enough to play, then he's good enough to play. Can't wait for this season to start.

will s***. just when i thought the Wings were getting younger, they add Modano at 40 (who I can live with), and Salei at 35. Not all that impressed, but hey im no GM.

With all due respect to Probert, its been over 15 years since he played for Detroit and with Chelios and May wearing #24 I wouldn't have a problem if Salei did.

As a Lilja fan, this is sad for me as it now looks like he will not be returning to us. I wish him happiness wherever he goes. Salei has not caught my attention in the NHL, but he did catch my attention during the Olympics. I think that since players put it all on the line during the Olympics, that this is a better indicator of how someone plays during the playoffs than the regular season. That said, if he is playing as a bottom pair guy, he really can't hurt us too much if he is just consistent and steady with no intellectual interludes. If he brings it in the big games, he will do well in the playoffs. I'm trusting Babcock on this one. He knows better than anyone. EDIT to add: Off to find Edi and share a bottle of something that will knock our livers to San Jose or further.

Geez did ANYONE on this board watch Salei play in the olympics? This guy was a BEAST playing almost 30 minutes a night as Belarus' number 1 defenseman. He played on the PK and PP and played against the other teams' top guys. He's older and won't be around in the NHL for more than a few more years, but this is a great signing for a short-term 6th defenseman for cheap.

Yeah but Lils wanted quite a bit more money and also more playing time and Mitchell was likely always too expensive.

I'm hoping Salei is the 5th man with a rotation between E and Kindl for the 6th spot. It gives E motivation to get his ass in gear or Kindl will take his spot. Plus, Kindl needs some playing time to develop.

Lidstrom-Rafalski Kronwall-Stuart Ericsson-Salei/Kindl/Janik/Smith (Good bye Meechy) (Ericsson has the 5th spot locked up right? according to kenny etc?) Salei is probably the guy for the 6th but he will probably get injured and then Kindl/Janik/ or maybe even Smith take his spot.

Guess for the price it's not bad. Ericsson's gonna have alot of fights next year with this guy as his partner, he better be up to it, cuz Salei cant fight his way out of a paper bag. Because he's so cheap, do we still have to trade Meech+Miller?

Millers only argument for being on this team is his PK ability which while solid, he is not as good as Helm or Eaves. Now with Abdelkader coming into the lineup, Babcock stated he would be starting the year on the PK. Miller is being replaced by Abdelkader on the PK which by Abby's ability in GR I am completely fine with. Miller is not physical, he's a beanpole that cannot hit effectively. He had a career year last year and now his stock is as high as we can hope for so yeah trade him first, and if a nice deal for a good defenseman comes up we have a few trade possibilities. If the other team wants young talent send them Ritola and Meech or we can trade Miller and Meech or Ritola ad Miller.

I tend to shy away from taking NHL information from ESPN, especially figures that are controversial to begin with, such as attendance.
