    Red Wings Archived Games Index

Figured I should move toward completing this, through the 07/08 season. Here's the 2008 post season. This was the 1st season the NHL started saving archives, so the quality is in just SD and at a 4:3 screen resolution. Penguins sign Arron Asham

Yeah it sucks instead they will be able to consistently score and be arguably the best 3rd line in the NHL.

    Penguins sign Arron Asham

Do you really think taking Asham instead of Modano would make this team any better? Talking about it is one thing. Saying it sucks and is worse than Williams is another. Even at the most optimistic, you can't possibly consider Asham anything other than a lateral move at this point. And that's only if you consider his fighting ability to be valuable. Secondary scoring is what Modano's role will be, same as it was last year in Dallas. (And he'd been transitioning to that role for a couple years prior.) He's not expected to be a star. He was successful on the third line with crap linemates in Dallas. That's why people think he can do just as well or better here with Hudler and Cleary. Sure it would be nice to have a defensive forward centering the third line. It would be nice to have a team full of Selke candidates who would also compete for the Art Ross. But we don't need it. A third line doesn't have to be a checking line. The other three lines are all capable of playing excellent defense. Besides, the one thing you keep ignoring is that Asham isn't any better than Modano defensively. He's never been known for his defense either. He's never really been a feature on any PK. He's not even that prolific of a hitter. If you're so concerned about defense, why would you want Asham over Miller? Miller is much younger than Asham (something you also seem to value), has similar offensive ability (and maybe some untapped potential), hits just as much, and is far better defensively. Yet you'd take Asham. What is it Asham does that Miller doesn't? Oh, but that's not why you want Asham... I agree that our third line would be good enough without Modano, but it's also better with him. And I believe that improvement is much better then we'd get from Asham's mediocre fighting skills. Our third and fourth lines are better and harder to play against with Modano than they would be with Asham.

Modano is a career +118, thats better than Fetisov, Larionov, and Robitaille Hudler is a career +33, thats better than Filppula, and Ryan Kesler but your right, they are defensive liabilities

    The Hockey News Top50 List

My thoughts *Toews shouldn't even be in the top 30 yet, let alone top 10. Right now he's a solid two way 65 point guy. In a few years, he will most probably be one of the most complete players in the game, but he isn't as of now. *Datsyuk. As much as I hate to admit it, based on last season's performance there is no way you can consider him the 4th best skater last year. He has the ability to for certain, and this year may rightfully reclaim that rank, but last year there was a stretch for 10-15 games where he just looked so disinterested. I'd think he shouldve been in the 8-12 spot based on last year, though I can understand why they would put him at 4. *I question Mike Green, Kesler and Burrows even being ranked as high as they are. They are all great players, but in my opinion products of their system *Doughty, and to a lesser extent Lidstrom and Pronger all should have been ranked higher. Doughty should have been in the top 6-7 at least, with Lidstrom and Pronger around 10-15 respectfully *Kopitar should not be in any way ranked ahead of Zetterberg *Getzlaf being lower then either of the Richards and Hossa is a joke (and I'm a BIG Mike Richards fan) Notable exceptions imo: Zbynek Michalek (most underated defensemen in the league), Tobias Enstrom (if ******* Dan Boyle makes it in the 30s at this point in his career, he should at least be up there), and Erik Johnson who was better then Tyler Mylers the past season from what I saw.

Top 10 Swedes in NHL History

At this point I would almost certainly put Zetterberg over Naslund. Besides a few peak years, Naslund's overall totals don't hold a candle to Zetterbergs, and thats not taking into account greater defesne play/playoff success.

In Depth Look at the Central Division

This article reads like it was written by a 12 year old. Did they even attempt to re-read it at least once to check for errors? Hate to nitpick but that is seriously some of the worst professional writing I have ever seen.

    Red Wings Archived Games Index

Finally got this done This was the 1st season the NHL archived games, so it's in SD quality and a couple of games are missing. Red Wings Archives of the 07/08 Season No longer updating this list, moved to my site....see my profile.

So the NHL keeps adding more bonuses to their archive system, they now have Classic NHL Games. Here's an example. I'll look at putting more up as well as getting that 07/08 season done. I may end up moving everything to my website, so just a heads up. Pretty nice of the NHL to do this, they also added condensed archives of games showing all the highlights (roughly 20 mins total). Again links were generated as a list in excel, so I haven't tested them all. Should you find one that doesn't work, let me know. Quality of games at the start of the season weren't very good, mostly just in October. Red Wings Archives of the 08/09 Season No longer updating this list, moved to my site....see my profile.

    I hate shootouts

No, no no, ties are the worst. Shootouts are horrible ways to end games, I agree, but ties were even worse. I think the points system should be simplified to no points for an OT loss. You either win or you lose.

    I hate shootouts

I personally hate the shootout, but if I were in charge of hockey I would keep them -- they definitely add entertainment value and keep fans in the stands.

Nope. A penalty shot is entertainment - the shootout is the Amerikan 'philosophy' that 'somebody must win'.....

    I hate shootouts

I read an article on Puck Daddy today (Link) about the suggestion by Atlanta to change shootouts (which is absolutely ridiculous, but makes sense when your team only has one player who can shoot ) . It basically did nothing but remind me of the fact that I hate shootouts. Shootouts are an unfair means of ending a fair and close game. It promotes overpayment for a few star players rather than a balanced roster. In my opinion some teams use it to their advantage and try to get ties purposely against tough opponents. The NHL doesn't have the star power to support it either, especially since they focus their ads on a small handful of the whole.

But I was talking about current ranking and not a projected list for the future. Besides, with Zetteberg's health always being an issue, I'm not sure what will happen to his stats over time either.

I agree... I'm sure hockey players play for their hate of the game.
