So... the person w/ a username and avatar honoring Datsyuk, thinks he should be the next captain. What a shocker. Z has been groomed for the role for many years now. Sorry. We don't even know if Lidstrom is retiring. Way to push the 2011 Norris candidate out the door. -

Lids will not be around forever. Yes, it sucks. It sucked with Stevie, but that is how life is. There is no reason that Pavel does not deserve to be the Captain once Lids retires. There is also no reason that Hank does not deserve it. However, unless we rotate the C, only one gets it. Bashing people for suggesting Pavel is entirely lame. He would do a great job. Hank will be the one getting it. He has more of a "captain" persona. It's no slight to Pavel. Coming in second to Hank is no insult. -

Svetlana is very pretty too. Hank gets it because Pavel has a silly side that he'd have to keep deeply hidden should he become captain. Once Hank gets the C, the comedy will fly. Pavel will be pranking him six ways from Sunday. Hilarity will ensue. You heard it here first, folks. Pavel is just to impish for the C. It would be like giving it to Homer. -
3 pointsLombardi is a whiny blowhard, bottom line. This is the same guy that blasted Red Berenson over the coaching of Jack Johnson last year and questioned the integrity of Mike Murphy and got slapped with a $50K fine earlier this year. There's clearly a disconnect somewhere between his brain and his mouth.

I love how the team can throw Cleary on any line in practically any role, and he still goes out there, works his ass off and produces. -

I didn't attack your avatar. But why shouldn't I attack avatars? Do you have L33t shop skills that you'll destroy me through the interwebz with? As to the "Lidstrom bash" (what is that, a new dance?), this is a discussion that doesn't matter until Lidstrom retires. Therefore, you are assuming he's got one foot out the door. I'm not. -

Kings GM complaining about calls
Selliria and one other reacted to xtrememachine1 for a post in a topic
This is the same guy that gave up a ton to get Dustin Penner. He's just pissed because he thought he built the Kings to contend for the Cup this year and that were getting killed by one of the best teams in the West and it showed just how far the Kings still have to go before being a serious contender. "Its Detroit". Whatever. How about, "why are the Kings losing?" "Well it's the Kings". -

I found it hilarious that Stoll was going apes*** in the box after he saw the replay of himself clearly high-sticking Filppula in the face. Seriously Stoll, WTF were you looking at that made you think you weren't as guilty as they come. Now, the Greene high-sticking call I'll agree. That was BS, but atleast justice was served and we didn't score on it. -

Jiri Hudler Watch Thread
Rick D and one other reacted to clutchngrab for a post in a topic
Hudler has hit his stride and is playing well within his limitations. The reason he plays so well with Datsyuk is that once in the zone they are both creative play-making type players that can shoot and see the ice well. The difference is that Jiri doesn't have the skating, physicality or creativity to create the time and space he needs that Datsyuk does - however if given space and time Hudler is very good. So, Dats creates time and space for Huds. Of course Dats will elevate anyones game, but I am glad Hudler recognizes the opportunity to play with one of the top 2 or 3 forwards in the game and is working hard - unlike Mule. -

Life of an NHLer Stashed in the AHL
Chris Avram and one other reacted to Drake_Marcus for a post in a topic
That's the most retarded thing I've read in a while. Crosby and Ovechkin represent the exception, not the norm. Of the first 30 guys selected each year maybe 2 or 3 will never play a game in the AHL, CHL or another minor league*. Add in all the other rounds and you can safely say more than 95% of the players drafted will play in the minors (both pro and amateur). It's not uncommon to see top 5 picks play in the AHL for a time... it all depends on what their team's status is (garbage or loaded with talent) and how physically ready they are for the NHL. So in summary-- the AHL is hardly a holder pen for fringe prospects. Most of the young NHL players who enter the league cut their teeth in the AHL. Edit: *Condsider that some guys who start on their team's NHL roster at 18 end up playing in the AHL for a time at some point (see: Edmonton this season) -

For a while now I have been wondering if Nick does retire this year who gets the C for real? Z has always been the one they have hinted towards, and people across this board often say Z as well. However when it comes down to it, Dats is a better choice in my mind. He is arguably the best player in the game right now, playmaker, dangler, sniper, PK & PP specialist and defends his team mates (I dont want to see him actually drop the gloves again for a while but that was awesome). The thing people have often said is the language barrier, but I think that is really an issue anymore. So I expect to my Datsyuk Jersey I order in the near future to come with a C on it -

Wings sign Howard to 2-year, $4.5M extension
GoWings1905 reacted to Doc Holliday for a post in a topic
Howard has not been stealing games all year. He hasn't been stealing games hardly at all. He hasn't been bad, but lets not overrate Howard here. Niemi won a cup with a stacked roster just like Osgood did twice, and I'm sure we would take Ozzie in his prime over Howard. Niemi is getting overpaid based on a season of performance but right now he is a better goaltender. -

1 pointPretty ridiculous thread, frankly. He's still a kid. We can't expect every call-up to be Nick Lidstrom's successor or we're going to be terribly disappointed. Yes, he makes mistakes. Guess what? Every defenseman in the NHL does except for the guy with the Winged Wheel on his chest and the number five on his back. Kindl has the potential to be a good defenseman; maybe not a #1 or #2, but definitely a #3 or #4 guy. He still has a few years yet before he's supposed to hit his prime. Give the kid time to develop.
