Wow. It's almost like breaking into the zone fast and crashing the net is a better strategy against a defensively strong team than setting up a methodical passing offense and taking constant shots from the point.

Very easy to stop shots when you have to do very little work. Watch the coyotes they are much more active than the wings. When they get the puck at the point they actually move around, and try to create a shooting lane.

Saves them zamboni gas. How else do you expect Ilitch to pay for Fielder's contract?

    Where does Bertuzzi fit?

Dude, get a clue - I am so sick of ppl chirping Bertuzzi. Is he going to put up 60-70 points next year? No, probably not. *But he was tied for 1st on the Wings amd tied for 9th in the NHL this year with a +23 - and that was against the oppositions top lines as he played the majority of the season on the top unit with Franzen and Datsyuk.* So yeah - I am actually very happy with a guy putting up 40-45 points a year, is incredibly defensibly reliable, is a shootout wizard (tied for 2nd overall in the league with 4 shootout game winners) and is one of the very, very few physical, gritty guys on an obnoxiously soft roster sticking around for another couple years. Especially when his price tag is only 1.8 million a year. Point your finger at someone besides Bertuzzi. The guy is incredibly valuable anywhere you put him.

Your favorite moments of the season

Some of Datsyuk's great goals and Jimmy being a ninja. The game against Boston early in the season stands out for me, it had more of a playoff feel than our actual playoff games this year.

Oh No! Cause there are no other players in the league who can score 25-30 goals! That excuse is already stale. esteef

Since LGW is likely to be pretty slow until the end of June, I figured I'd throw together a little idea I had for what I thought our WC jerseys could look like. A couple pieces of history here and there (inverted logo, Detroit Cougars "D" on the shoulder), as well as a little deeper red trim for a vintage-ish look. Anyway, let me know what you think. I have the PSD file, so I can edit it as much as I want, so suggestions are welcome and I'd be willing to attempt any other mock-ups anyone might like to see (within my abilities).

We don't have those types of players. Holland is the one who should really be watching this. But he's probably too busy liking his team.

Basically, there's nothing wrong with this statement. The problem is that he should be the last guy to call the team out, especially in the media.A bit hypocrisy from Mr.Franzen

I keep wondering - sometimes out loud - if any of tha Wings are watching these four Western teams play. Why the hell couldn't our guys figure it out. That you have to play the puck ALL over the offensive zone, not just the sides. And SHOOT THE DAMN PUCK!!!

Some of Bert's shootout wins stand out to me. Especially during the home win streak; he was so clutch.

First off, I'm fairly certain he was kidding/using hyperbole, not actually suggesting losing Franzen's production for nothing. Other than that, have you not seen Franzen's play the last few years or heard/read any of the things coming from his own mouth? Its not all LGW hysteria, the guy has a terrible attitude. The point of the thread is Franzen and his s***ty attitude, not Franzen as the only reason the Wings lost. So to avoid that easy out for everyone still pro-Franzen, I'll say this officially: Johan Franzen is not the reason the Detroit Red Wings lost. However, the way some people can defend a guy who is basically Robert Lang 2.0 with tenure is absurd to me. Look passed the fact that the Wings lost and look at the way the guy plays and carries himself publicly. And again, as I said, Babcock was speaking about why the team lost, saying it wasn't just Franzen, which we have now established. Using that one line as a pardon for Franzen's play, effort, and attitude is just plain flawed. Babcock has made several indicting statements about the player himself within that context. And we've also established that Babcock's hands are tied as far as how to deal with the situation, and that especially now, with the season over, it does him and the organization no good to elaborate and just how bad Franzen has been. Why s*** on his trade value? And if they are planning to keep him, what good does it do at this point to humiliate a guy who is such a pouter as it is?

I grow tired of these athletes who get to play a game for a living, are millionaires by age 30, and still need someone to motivate them to show up for work and try. How about yank that contract and send his ass to the minors. Let's see how much f***in' "fun" he has then. esteef

Defenders of Franzen, We appreciate what you're doing, sticking up for a Red Wing and all. But Franzen is lazy. And he sucks.

Here's a good way to look at Franzen's production (his only defensible position left) in comparison to a Wings' fan favorite: Robert Lang had 62 point in 72 games for the Wings. (a better season than any of Franzen's past... ever) Robert Lang was LAZY and he SUCKED. Robert Lang wasn't on the top line, getting all his minutes with a player the caliber of Datsyuk (ahem...) Robert Lang was LAZY and he SUCKED. Robert Lang wasn't granted an 11-year contract. (that's good...) Robert Lang didn't complain to the media every time he spoke to them about things being boring. (what self-respecting player would?) ...Johan Franzen is LAZY and he SUCKS

While the team as a whole definitely needs a shake up, I do find it pretty strange that 1) the few occasions Franzen talks to the media, its always negative, and 2) the only time lack of motivation or complaints about things being 'boring' or 'needing more fun', its always Franzen. It was funny to some a few seasons ago when he followed up a s***ty season with a good playoff and quipped about the regular season being too 'boring' for the golden god of playoffs. Now its become a trend of excuse making and whining about his own attitude and its reflected on the ice. Its not hard to see this guy has a terrible attitude, a (im)potent cocktail of apathy, laziness, entitlement, and self-pity. He'd look great in Maple-Leaf-Blue.

Sounds like a group who are bored with themselves. Add some new life to the roster. Add some excitement.

Money On The Board - Playoff Style

Paid the grand total of $5 and some extra because f*** losing. Thanks for organising, one of these years I hope I'll have to actually break the piggybank just to meet my pledge.

Ken Holland should come visit the boards here and magically consolidate all 20 of the "Whats happening this offseason" threads into one.
