This is all garbage. If we have good players (Smith), we play them. Over ripening money saving arguments are all a facade for our farm system being weak right now. We have a lot of mediocre talent in GR, but there arent any Datsyuks or Zetterbergs in the near future. I dont blame Holland for it, as we never have any good picks. I actually think he does a great job with drafting and finding value in lower picks. I just blame him for flapping his gums about the over ripening stuff. Thats lame. "We got this great guy named Nyquist who's the next slava kozlov, but we're gonna sign Sammy for 3 years so Nyquist can ripen some more.". Stupid. Nyquist is too small right now. Plain and simple. We need him at 190 instead of 165 so he doesnt get killed. Why not just call a spade a spade?

Alright call me crazy but I see people doubting we even make the playoffs this year? Alright so lets break this down. You lose Homer and Hudler and for replacements you have Brunner Samuelsson and TooToo with Nyquist getting more of a regular role, I believe are offense will be more dynamic and more effective then last year. Defense: Everyone knows we lost Nick and we lost Stuart too, and for replacement we have a young kid in Smith who is unproven, Coliacovo who has had injury problems but when healthy has proved to be effective and are regulars White Ericcson Kronwall Quincey and Kindl. I think were putting too much emphasis on how much Nick's departure will hurt us, are defensive core definitely isn't the best but they can perform to were this team can still contend to win the division. I don't believe in the Blues hype, Chicago has goaltending issues Nashville will drop this year and Columbus is well Columbus. I'll call it right now, this team wins the Central, and the doubters will be silenced. Remember we had the best Goaltender in hockey before the injury and I see Jimmy contending for the Vezina at the end of the year and the addition of Gus will keep Jimmy rested and give us a trustworthy back-up. Puck drop is coming in 2days, predictions will be done and will see what this team is gonna bring, Lets Go Wings!

A bit easier? Lidstrom at 40 was better than weber at 26, Chara in his prime, suter, pietrangelo, letang, and so on. The only player in the last 20 years who even compared to him was Vladdy, and unfortunately negligence stole him from us. no one can replace lids, not in his prime, not at 40, not ever.

Well, don't think anyone came up with this, but after watching the game last night and learning the correct pronunciation of his name (rhymes with runner,) I am officailly going with... Damien "The Gunner" Brunner....

Remember a couple years ago when the Wings played Phoenix in the playoffs and Helm was just murdering Jovo? Forechecking hard, finishing his hits, forcing turnovers, and all that? Remember Jovo was so sick of Helm doing it that he eventually kinda snapped and was all up in Helm's face talking s***? It was awesome. That's what Jordin Tootoo does every night.

I called this back in the summer but I want to repeat it. Tootoo will be a beloved Wing soom enough. He is a hardworker on the ice and gentleman off of it. Meant to be a Wing. Fan Favorite.

I really like idea of bringing Dmitry Kulikov to Detroit. He's only 22 years old. I haven't watched enough of him to really say how defensively sound he is. Definitely has some offensive upside. 28 points in 58 games last year. On top of all that, his presence may make Datsyuk feel a little more at home, since Kulikov is Russian.

I haven't heard anything about Fedorov making a comeback, I though he was happy being GM of CSKA. Funny though, I too would welcome Feds back for this short season. But at 43, I'd moreso like to see him comeback in a scout/coaching position. I am still waiting for the time when our coaching staff exists of Larionov and Fetisov... edit: On topic, I too think that the best thing to try to do is get Visnovsky off the Island (if we could convince him to play here.) Yandle/JBo/Burns/et al. would cost way too much! Besides there will be more than a few available as UFA too come summer...

Bogosian would be a nice piece as he is a RH dman with great size, mobility, and youth. I think more realistically we should target a guy like gormley who is probably nhl ready but is on a team with a crowded blueline. I don't think we have the depth to trade for a current top tier dman, but we could try for a potential top tier guy in gormley. maybe even rundblad but people seem to dislike him.
