If you're listening to anything that a Leaf fan has to say regarding the playoffs, you're doing it wrong. Kindly remind them that our playoff streak is old enough to drink in the United States, then drop the mic, and back away with your arms raised.

Big E has a cannon....i wish he could get it off quicker, he would be an animal on PP when that shot gets thru! Also Dekeysers skating ability really on showcase that second period!

    Why? He's improved greatly.

Every game looks like the Nashville series lately. No speed, a bunch of perimeter shots that get blocked and a complete unwillingness to play in the tough areas of the ice. If you can't beat teams with skill, then you better have the tenacity to score some dirty goals.

It's cool guys and gals, it's just fate. There was LITERALLY NOTHING that Holland could have done since 2009 to improve this club. Nothing. Sometimes you have to face facts.

Can Andersson spend half his summer on learning to hit well and often? He has plenty of skill to be a 3rd/4th line center but IMO he needs to pick up his physical play.

Hard to make the playoffs when you can't even score a goal at home.

Try reading The Axes responses out loud and yelling when the caps lock comes on. It's fun.

    Milbury rips Ovechkin

I watched the series, I was disgusted with Crosby, One of the most pathetic display of immaturity by a professional athlete that I have ever been witness to.

I have to disagree. Every goalie lets in ones he'd rather have back, but he's not like Marc Andre Fleury, who makes a game stealing save, followed up by a backbreaking softie. If you count goalies who have played over 20 games this season, Howard is at or near the top 10 in save percentage. Plus he's been a workhorse for the Wings. There's a handful of guys out there who are generally better, but Howard is good enough to get the Wings to the Cup.

I guess this is kind of a needless rant post, but is this guy for real? I saw today that he didn't practice again because he has a "sore pectoral muscle." Have some pride man...there are guys out there who play with broken bones, I mean cleary basically skates on one leg. Step it up and help the team or good riddance.

If Fil wants a raise, he needs to pick it up.

Anyone thinking we will have a Luongo/Schneider problem in the future is clueless. Luongo's cap number is comparable to Jimmys but Luongo has what 9 years left on his deal when trying to be moved. That contract is almost unmoveable with getting any decent in return. Now if Mrazek or anybody all of sudden beats Jimmy out for a job in the next 2-3 years (which is how long it would probably take at minimum) its a heck of a lot easier to move a 5 million goalie contract with only 2-3 years left on it. Heck even in that time Luongo's contract could still have more on it than Jimmy initial signed for. Im actually hoping we have a goalie battle down the road. That means the Wing will have to top notch goalies with easily moveable contracts. Much better than the alternative of having none. But what it comes down to is there are people that dislike Jimmy will never give him credit. They will complain about the 1 he lets in but instantly forget the 35+ he saved. But thats common about Wings fans. They will never be happy with any goalie. Hell the wings could put a board up in front of the goal that covers the entire net and people would find a reason to complain about it. If so a 3yr/5million contract is easily moved. If Mrazek fails then the Wings have another 3 years to develop someone else. Good contract if you ask me.

and we get a good amount of forwards off the books at seasons end. plug in young guys for cheap, we easily have 5-7 mil throw at a scorer in the offseason.

I will be crystal clear for you, Harold. I don't want to be banned again for a disagreement. We get a LOSS if we score ZERO goals. Our goalie could give up 10 goals. He could give up 1 goal. Doesn't matter. We get a LOSS if we don't score. So signing ANY goalie to a big contract right now does not help solve our most pressing need right now = SCORING MORE GOALS. And thus, paying Howard 5 mil a season doesn't do anything EXCEPT decrease any cap space we may have and hinder our inept GM from signing a legitimate sniper. Perfectly on topic and easy to understand. Do we need to be under 500, not making the playoffs, and last in the league in offense before the general consensus changes? Our defense and goalie are FANTASTIC, but we can't score!! And you have to do that to win!!

Enhh, this one's a little on the high side for me on both cap hit and term. I really would have preferred to see something like 4.5-4.8 over 3-4 years, but at this stage that probably doesn't make sense for Howard. I think in his mind, this is probably his "retirement" contract, and so he's going to try to get his money now. In terms of the actual structure of the team, I can see Mrazek truly challenging (and perhaps overtaking) Jimmy in about 3-4 seasons. What then? We'll have a 5.3 million dollar back-up? Love Howie, just not 100% sold on the deal. Glad we still have him, though.
