I'm glad Tatar isn't playing on this team right now and scoring goals.

Eh, we're looking okay imo. Good effort. But as per usual we have no clue what to do around the net. Can't hit the net, can't get shots past blocking d-men, one pass too much, one pass too few..

Dekeyser seems to be playing a lot now. I like it.

Damn I love this Dekeyser kid. Representing WMU well!

Would've been funnier if he did it to Grant Clitsome.

Quincey out, Lashoff in on Sunday please. We don't have time for Quincey to readjust to the game if he's going to play this poorly in the process.

    His face matched his helmet.

It's kind of flattering that Joel would be so angry. Does he feel our team is, like, especially good at holding leads, or something?

Did anyone else see the RW chick in the crowd with a beer in one hand and the other hand making the 'jack off then jizz' mime after the goal?

i love it when edzo gets silent when we score

Cleary waits for the puck to come to him far too much along the boards

According to Eddie, Pavel "lost an edge"... LOL.

Kane is such a ****** bag. Great player. But I always find myself wanting to punch his face in any time I hear him speak.

I like Kindl and DeKeyser together.

Oh man, for a second I thought Howard was jumping into the play.

Like seeing the puck in the Hawks end. They are getting faceoffs so that's a plus.

I'm hoping that this season has opened Holland's eyes a bit. I don't think the Wings can afford to keep prospects in the minors forever and sign old former Red Wing free agents to fill the gap. Because of the cap, you have to give jobs to younger, cheaper players. We no longer have the luxury of paying future hall of famers several million to play on the third line or sit in the press box to fill in for an injury. Not saying play a guy full time at 18, but by 21 or so, these guys need to be given a chance to play and not continue to rot in Grand Rapids.

Wow. Can everybody just calm down a little bit about Petr Mrazek? Mrazek is 21 years old with virtually no track record. He doesn't factor into a Jimmy Howard signing whatsoever. Based on where he was drafted, anything with him is gravy. If he ever becomes a passable NHL backup who could threaten for a starting job, that would be a terrific problem to have. Not quite clear just how terrible the Luongo/Schneider situation is for Vancouver, given that they're leading their division and have tons more firepower than Detroit, even with Kesler in and out of the lineup. I'm thrilled we got Howard re-signed. All the people saying how much money we have under the cap, etc. were under some delusion that Jimmy Howard wasn't going to get paid like a #1 goalie. There's really group of about 10-15 goalies in today's league that make up the "top" goalies in the league. Will Howard ever win a Cup with us? I don't know, but if he doesn't, I highly doubt he will be the largest reason for that. If the AAV is $5.3 million, that's about right for Howard. It certainly isn't a "bargain", though there are plenty of goalies around the league that make $6 to $8 million per that play at or below Howard's level. The criticism about signing guys that "can't score" is fair, but also totally ridiculous to bring up in a discussion about a franchise goaltender. For all the stuff Holland has arguably "screwed up" or "missed" on, let it be known be known that he drafted, developed, and retained a franchise-caliber goaltender without the aid of a Top 10 pick.

His shots would be quieter if he hit the net. As it stands boards, glass and shinpads make quite a ruckus Unless that scrub is named Tatar

People complain when someone sits out, saying "blah blah blah Yzerman played on one leg", but then when a guy like Z is a warrior and plays despite not being 100% everyone complains? I'd rather have this Zetterberg playing than whatever scrub would be in the lineup instead.

You have to consider his forsight to not make any reactional signings or trades. Teams like NY, Philly, and even Pittsburgh this year went "all in" to try to win The Cup. If none of them do, then it was a failed season by their expectations (Philly fell flat early). This season without a doubt is a rebuilding year. However, look at where we currently are in the standings. We are 8th in the WC and 15th in the league. To me, it's incredible that we are rebuilding and are still competing for a playoff spot. In our worst season in a long time, we can still see hope and potential that we can be a serious contender within the next few years. We are only a top 6 player or two away from that. We lost the best defensemen ever to play, along with Brad Stuart and our defense hasn't struggled nearly as much as everyone expected. We have competed and almost beat the best team in the Western Conference twice this season, all while injury riddled. The losses of Helm and Bert (not so much Sammy) have really caused us to force guys who don't belong in the top 6 to step up and play top 6 minutes. Holland could have made a move to land a guy like Iginla or Bouwmester, but why would he at the expense of our future? Holland is as level-headed as a GM can be. He realized right after the last lockout that teams now need to build through the draft and not through free agency. Look at all of the teams who have won Stanley Cups in the past years and there is a trand that their superstars are drafted, while their role players are picked up through trade or free agency. 06 Hurricanes - Eric Staal 07 Ducks - Perry, Ryan, Getzlaf, McDonald 08 Wings - Datsyuk, Zetty, Filp, Franzen, Lidstrom, Kronwall 09 Pens - Crosby, Malkin, Fleury 10 Blackhawks - Toews, Kane, Staal, Keith, Brouwer 11 Bruins - Lucic, Krejci, Berjeron, Marchand, Seguin 12 Kings - Quick, Kopitar, Brown, Doughty For the most part, since the 04-05 lockout, all of the teams who have won Stanley Cups have built their core through drafting while adding one or two other pivotal players through other means. Ken Holland was the first person to say that this is the new trend after that year. He didn't trade any draft picks this season in order to gain a rental player. He is a very smart man and I don't think that any of us on the internet could do a better job than him. edit: grammar

Haha, I watched Brendan Shanahan's video explanation of the incident. According to Shanny every player is responsible for their own tongue, and much like their stick, they must be held responsible for ensuring its proper use. Additionally, while there was clearly intent to lick, no penalty was assessed by the on ice officials. Furthermore, it must be taken into account that Jeff Halpern was not injured as a result of the incident and was able to return to the ice later that period after squeegeeing off his visor. In Summary: Clearly intent to lick No "licking" penalty assessed Halpern was not (physically) injured; no mention of the psychological effects Because of this the Department of Player safety has decided to issue a warning to Buffalo's Steve Ott. He will be considered a repeat "licker" going forward.
