    The Pavel Datsyuk Show

Just watched all 69 minutes and 14 seconds of this at work. I'll blame you SOW when I'm unemployed.

    Datsyuk or Fedorov?

    1. In answering for myself, Fedorov was the better player. In terms of Wings fans in general, I wouldn't be surprised if more said Datsyuk, for several reasons: he didn't have a nasty exit from the team, for a long time now (at forward), the team has been him and Zetterberg, there were more greats around in Fedorov's day + timing thing, Datsyuk's more current. 2. Fedorov should get in fairly easily, but his offensive stats tailed off (under 1ppg, under 500 goals), but he was better all around than anyone + playoff stats are good and he has the major awards to back him up. Also, being the highest scoring Russian in league history will help. Ovechkin will likely pass him, Datsyuk won't, but either way, Fedorov will have held that title for many years. 3. I'm honestly not sure about Datsyuk getting in. Then again, it's always hard to say. There are worse players in than Datsyuk, but there are also better players that haven't made it.

I miss having someone like this in the lineup... Here's hoping Glendening and/or Callahan can develop into an impact hitter.

Down to earth guys, loaded with money who seem to really care about others not so lucky and REALLY wanting to help out no only when the cameras are there.

Wanted to add something to this: Zone Entries and the Red Wings [Winging It In Motown] So, again, something as seemingly small as Andersson playing a greatly elevated role for a game or two due to injuries - that alone was, perhaps, the difference between the Pens and Bruins in the first round. Point being, again, it's easy to say the glass is half-empty for the Wings and that they're barely a playoff team in the weak East. But I personally believe that's selling the team - and its architect - short.

Plus, things shouldn't just be gifted to anyone in life, they should be earned. Just like with the young kids here. Why would they be pasted straight into the lineup every night if they hadn't already proven they could play at that level, or even tried to earn it? It sends the wrong message to everyone in the organisation. Whereas sending the message of 'if you want to play here, you've got to earn it', promotes (IMO) hard work and competition. Now, granted, it might have seemed like over the last few years the Wings haven't exactly been as lenient with the kids as they perhaps should, but as we saw last year, opportunities arose, and the kids grabbed the bull by the horns and 'earned' their spots. Hopefully, the likes of Jurco and co outplay Cleary and start the year with the big boys.

So you really don't get the concept gaining someone's trust and how that works.... Forget hockey...just in general. It's a fairly primitive concept. Or how putting a young person through adversity, and having them overcome obstacles, helps build them to be a better person.

Nyquist with the Euro Twins pretty much goes against Babs typical thinking when constructing a line. I'm not entirely opposed to Nyquist playing there (my first choice is Jurco), but if history is any indication, that spot is going to Abby. I don't really like Tatar away from Sheahan and/or Helm either. I think Tatar largely thrived offensively last season because he wasn't typically drawing opponents top forwards and d-men. Sheltering Tatar on the third line worked because most other teams couldn't match up with what the Wings could throw out in Tatar, Sheahan and Jurco together.

    1. Compared with what? Other GMs during the same span or Holland before the cap? Because aside from one team (Minnesota), I don't see any teams stealing the show with free agents. 2. We currently have one of the deepest prospect pools in the NHL and develop more of our picks than almost anyone. How many top players do you expect this team to develop?? 3. Considering our prospects take about 5 years to develop, it's no surprise none since 2010/11 have proven top 4/6 status since most of them have barely even played in the league.

I HATE the signing, but after watching tons of Wings videos this summer, I must say if Cleary was as good a player as he is a person, he would win the Hart Trophy this season. I truly hope he proves us all wrong and has a bounce back season. Bettman is still the Anti-Christ. Nothing that man does at this point can undo the wrongs that happened under his rule.
