The Spirit of Detroit holding up the city skyline is an awesome concept but poorly executed. That could have been my favorite goalie mask of all time. I personally like 2008-2010. The retired numbers on the tachometer is a groovy blend of Red Wings history and Detroit history.

It's not a question of keeping Jurco down for those guys, it's a philosophy of getting him used to being the go-to guy first in GR, being the main man, the one we count on day in and day out to bring the rain, to pick up the bar tab when the game is on the line-"Guys, I got it". Once he's played that role , with that mentality, long enough in GR, it will be more possible to develop that mentality in the nhl.

There are hundreds of Luke Glendening's floating around the league. Hell, Joakim Andersson probably brings more to the table. You don't keep Jurco down for Glendening or Callahan. Those are fringe NHL players.

The 4th line can be just as crucial as the top line. See: Grind Line. 15 points in 36 gp does not make you a bonafide NHL player by any means. So bc Callahan has never had a shot at the NHL he's just a good AHL role player? You don't know what he's got till you play him. He was 2nd among Griffins in goals. He's no scrub. This is a business. Starting Jurco is definition poor asset management.

Jurco's AHL stint at the moment is less than 1 and a half seasons. I don't think he needs 4 years either, but how about 2? 2 and a half even? We are in a situation where we have a log jam at forward, and where young guys (also good players) are going to be exposed to waivers even if Jurco goes to the minors. Starting the season with him on the roster only uneededly exposes more players to waivers. I am not willing to ship out Callahan for nothing just because a kid scored 15 pts in 36 games last season and somehow that earned him a spot in that short of a time. That's a very small sample size of games, with very moderate results, to have solidified a spot with the big boys. I don't think he at all gets priority over guys like Glendening or Callahan at this stage of his career. Glendening is 4 years Jurco's senior and has proven to be effective in his time with the wings as well. Callahan has also shown tremendous promise and is 2 years Jurco's senior. It's now or never for those two. They deserve their shots. Jurco can wait for the first string of injuries to roll through.

Tourists go to Vegas to see Celine Dion, Carrot Top, Penn and Teller, etc. along with gambling. They don't go to see a hockey game. Even if they do come from Detroit, or Toronto, or wherever to see their team play Vegas, they're not going to be buying $150 Las Vegas Regrets jerseys, and $20 hats, or the other merchandise.

They should probably pick the name based on the most likely Canadian market the team will move to after being a financial disaster for years.

If the NHLPA wanted a work stoppage, they could strike. Lockout is, by definition, owners locking the players out. Disclaimer: I do not wish to start any discussion of whose fault it was/is/will be. Just a word usage note.

I think Howard would be exactly what any expansion team is looking for. He is a very reliable veteran goalie.

Is losing Callahan, Ferraro or even Glendening for nothing that big of a deal? I personally wouldn't care if none of the three played for the Wings. I want to win games; not uphold a philosophy of forcing prospects to be overripe, which hasn't gotten the team anywhere in five years. Jurco deserves to be in the NHL, regardless of the circumstances or taking the easy way out.

Yzerman, Fedorov, and Zetterberg all did/do everything perfectly, text book. Datsyuk writes his own book.

I saw both play, and regardless of the stats, I can always expect to be wowed by something Pavel will do on the ice. Be it a deke, a pass, a hit avoided, a steal, something. Not so much for Fedorov. He might score 4 points, but they will be somewhat boring, just a guy who is stronger, shoots harder, and skates faster overcoming the inferior competition. Kind of like watching a adult play with kids, almost.

I think something that really works in Pav's favor regarding the HOF is the idea that most people have regarded him as at least a top-5 player in the league for the better half of a decade now. For 2-3 years, a lot of people considered him the best player in the game. I think that reputation will give him a big push.

Dats also has 532 assists already. He could easily be over 600-650 when he retires and is just shy of Beijing a ppg player his entire career (804 points in 824 games) that's good enough for me, without even taking into consideration his two way play. That just puts him over the top.

I get what you're saying, but why should Pavel need another 1 or 2 90+ point seasons? Why can't a guy who is arguably and has arguably been the best two way forward in the league for most of the last decade need massive point totals? (Don't get me wrong, I'd love it if Datsyuk returned to his 90 points pace)

I'll be the minority here and say Datsyuk. I won't deny that Feds was super skilled, but he also had a pretty tremendous team around him. Datsyuk would have better numbers if he was playing with the team that Fedorov was playing for back then. Again, no discredit to skill level, sometimes the quality of players around you make you play better. Fedorov, there is no reason why he shouldn't make the HOF. Datsyuk, I feel like he absolutely should, I feel pretty confident that he will, but I understand if he doesn't.
