Monthly schedule wallpapers?
MajorWingNut and one other reacted to Namtaru for a post in a topic
Came to LGW to get my wallpaper on for October, and can't find anything. Is Matt or anyone else making monthly wallpapers? They are much better than anything I have the talent to make. Go Wings! -

Jeff Petry; trade between us and oilers
krsmith17 and one other reacted to kipwinger for a post in a topic
Is that what I said lol? I could have sworn I said I'd take Yandle, and leave Myers (and the other two) in the dust bin. Unlike much of the NHL watching masses, I'm not mesmerized by big guys just because they're big. He's an underachiever who makes too much money. I want producers, not question marks. -

Jeff Petry; trade between us and oilers
krsmith17 and one other reacted to kipwinger for a post in a topic
None of Petry, Bogosian, or Myers is noticeably better than Brendan Smith, and all of them are worse than our top three defensemen. As such, I'm not willing to give very much in trade. I'm definitely not losing the first goal scoring winger (with size) that we've developed in ten years for a new fourth best defenseman. Yandle sure. He's legit. But just say "no" to the still-waiting-to-reach-their-potential club. -
2 pointsEhh maybe. But I'm stubborn and OCD I don't like looking through the glass.

Babcock "I don't think it will be my final year here"
FireCaptain and one other reacted to krsmith17 for a post in a topic
Frank and others that always say, "well don't read it then, problem solved...", I don't know about anyone else on here but I don't know until after I read something if it is something that I would categorize as "getting old" or "rubbish" or whatever... But believe me, if I could "unread" a lot of what a few people on here have to say, I most certainly would... Unfortunately that is not an option, so I will have to continue to suffer reading through some of the bulls***... Just as I'm sure, you think the same about me and a few other positive assholes on here... How dare us have a positive outlook on our team... -

Fan turnout at last night's Panthers' game
Rick D reacted to matthewdanna for a post in a topic
Exactly! Here's what you do (Bettman)... move Florida to whichever Eastern Canadian city you want to grace with a team (Hamilton, Quebec City, etc.), redraw the divisions, and expand two teams. My solution: Metropolitan (almost all of these teams are near the Atlantic)--> Atlantic: Carolina, New Jersey, New York Islanders, New York Rangers, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Tampa Bay, Washington Atlantic (only one team is actually on the Atlantic)--> Northeast: Boston, Buffalo, Detroit, Columbus, Hamilton/Quebec City, Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto, Midwest: Chicago, Colorado, Dallas, Minnesota, Nashville, Saskatoon/Kansas City, St. Louis, Winnepeg Pacific: Anaheim, Calgary, Edmonton, Los Angeles, Pheonix, San Jose, Seattle, Vancouver -

Fan turnout at last night's Panthers' game

I don't see how the two are related...? I read over the summer that the Griffins had the 2nd highest average attendance last season. I think you're off by a few thousand. -

Babcock "I don't think it will be my final year here"
krsmith17 reacted to frankgrimes for a post in a topic
Blashill has yet to c coach a nhl game. Remember Dallas Eakins? Great ahl resume but can't get the job done in the nhl. There would for sure be some growing pains, stepping right in is hard enough but replacing the by far best coach in hockey is even more daunting. That being said if Babcock walks Blashill will be next in line. -

Jeff Petry; trade between us and oilers
kipwinger reacted to WingsallTheway for a post in a topic
Yeah im reluctant to give up any of our top forward prospects, especially for a D. Its looking like in the future we'll have one of those stable D's that has above average guys top to bottom, which im okay with. Its going to be more difficult to replace dats and Z in the coming years then it is Kronwall and...... Quincey? edit: To me, tatar is untouchable but I may be biased. Ive been following him since draft day so I have a definite soft spot for him since he was drafted the same year i was eligble As previously mentioned, Jurco has untapped potential albeit probably 50 points but is as close to another dats as we'll ever have when it comes to stick handling. I had initially thought nyquist was gonna be a big bust this season, but hes looked phenomenal.... could easily be our next Z IMO. I'd hate to lose any of these guys for anyone not named Crosby or Mcdavid. Maybe Eichel. -
1 pointPetry is a decent D-man, but not worth Jurco in my book. Jurco's cieling is wayyyyy too high to trade for a guy like Petry.
-
1 pointOh god, I think I'm a masochist
-
1 pointAs a Buffalo resident I would say the Wings shouldn't be interested in any Sabres not named Zemgus Girgensons.
-
1 pointhttp://www.mw32.com/ is the best (sorry Matt yours got to be too busy for me and you weren't really interested in suggestions.....which is fine) plus the guy at monkeywrench does all Michigan area teams, like the Griffins.

NY Islanders Acquire Leddy and Boychuk
number9 reacted to WingsallTheway for a post in a topic
Thats a rediculous contract for boychuck. Wang doesn't match because he has common sense -
1 pointHa! I wasn't sure if there was a big demand for these anymore. It is getting a bit harder to produce them in a wide variety of screen resolutions, so if I go ahead with them I may trim them down. Now I could use Analytics data to get an idea on the general needs, but what resolution(s) do you guys primarily use?

LGW Moderator Problems
MabusIncarnate reacted to Matt for a post in a topic
I'll get these two out of the way first... This never happened. I checked, because getting a PM that puts a $ figure on the management decisions made on this site is a monstrous slap in the face and something I would've absolutely remembered if it, you know -- actually happened. There is no single faster way to get yourself perma-banned on this site (other than being a 1st-post blatant troll) than directly insulting the moderators on here. It's surprising how many people feel a persecution complex and think it's a personal vendetta when they have a posted edited/deleted. Now, this may sound harsh: You're not that important. Really. ___________ Now that that's out of the way... Moderating is an absolutely thankless job. It has been stated continuously that you simply cannot keep everyone happy. It's an accepted fact. What Harold, vladdy, MB, Jedi et al have stated is absolutely true. Every thread that gets removed, every post, gets moved to a special sub-forum within the moderator forum. It's all there. There's discussion on how to handle certain situations that come up if disciplining a member might be required. They volunteer their free time to help keep the ship righted. I'm immeasurably indebted to them for doing so. I've also stated repeatedly that I have absolutely no problem with dissenting opinions on this site -- it is what makes for a diverse community. Let's face it, no one wants to have the forum turn into one giant circlejerk where everyone agrees with each other and it's all lollipops and ponies. Now this may come as a surprise, but: I do reply to PMs. Yes, I'm incredibly busy day-to-day, but I do make time and I do get notified. Now, if you have a concern about the moderating or another poster, just let me know. Be an adult about it, and I reciprocate. "THANKS FOR THE POLICE STATE!!1!" PMs will be summarily ignored (you know who you are). It is very rare I get PMs relating to something like this at all. I'm not the boogieman. I have reversed moderating decisions. Now, it doesn't happen often, but it does. You know how that dialog gets started? PM me. Moderators make mistakes. I make mistakes. We're not above rectifying them. I do want your feedback! There are good reasons that this site has been around for over 18 years now -- this baby is already heading off to college. It's been built upon that sense of community, of taking care to listen to the suggestions and concerns that the members here share, and by a fantastic moderating crew. The last thing I'd want this site to become is over-moderated. I'd love it if the site didn't even need any. Anyone that knows me on here knows I'm all for no curse filter, some good animated banter that doesn't get personal, etc.. But I don't want comment spam. I don't want flame wars. I don't want cursing just for the sake of it. I'd like to think of this place as a virtual sports bar, with each of you pulled up on your own stool, with a cold beer in your hand and a hearty rant about the values of CORSI and Jimmy Howard's SV% on Saturday afternoon games during Leap Years when Mike Emrick is calling the game and Babcock is wearing his McGill tie at the tips of your fingers. Don't take it too seriously, and enjoy it in a manner that contributes to make the site better for everyone. Is that too much to ask? -
1 pointI come to check on the LGW forum almost daily on my lunch break/downtime while at work. Sometimes there are some good article links or an amusing game day thread, an interesting rumor or something else worthwhile. Other times it does seem like it is the same small group of people repeating themselves endlessly. I've not posted often because I don't want to be drawn (and quartered?) in and attacked in personal terms for any opinion I express. Or be dismissed because I'm not an active hockey player (in fact I can barely skate). Or because I come off as too positive or negative. etc etc. I just know that I've been a diehard Wings fan for 25+ years now, and I do like to watch the on and off ice moves that the team makes. Ok, For the sake of staying on topic I'll throw in my two cents on Babcock. I think he is a great coach and does get all the players under him to buy into the system. Sometimes his lines are confusing.. But I think this is a double edged sword. The fact that he is constantly juggling them plays into the whole team having a good chemistry with one another. Being able to mix and match lines gives us a lot of flexibility against other teams in terms of line matchups and with all the injures that we always seem to have, being flexible is a great thing. My gut feeling is that he will resign with us after this season. I don't think it is a sure thing, but for what its worth (very little) I think he'll be back next year. Other Random stuff: Has no one mentioned DD yet in this threads off topic rehashing of the free agency fight? Come on, credit due to Holland or not folks? (j/k, lets not refight that here..). personally think the big reason we got Alfie is that team Sweden wanted to have a real shot at the gold and we were the clear spot to go if that was what his priority was. Edit: Spelling errors
-
1 pointSaying "Because Weiss has done so much for us" shows me you completely missed my point. From my understanding, Alfie walked away from Ottawa. Sure maybe they wouldn't give him a certain amount of money, but he could have stayed (ala Lidstrom) for less then his market value. Point is, other teams targeted him, we got him. The last UFA that has done something for us....Alfie. The guy had 49 points and led our team in scoring last year. But let me guess, that doesn't count because he is old, again, my entire point.

Fan turnout at last night's Panthers' game
matthewdanna reacted to ShanahanMan for a post in a topic
Watched some on TV. Was seriously a joke, worse turnout I've ever seen at a major sporting event, including preseason games. It was just a sea of empty seats. Team obviously needs to be moved and rebranded. One hockey team for Florida is enough. -

more NHL wisdom: Chris Pronger may work for Dept of Player Safety
MidMichSteve reacted to number9 for a post in a topic
IMO the logic is, hire dirty players to catch dirty players. Just like they hire cheats in Vegas to catch cheats in Vegas. It makes sense to me... Pronger and Shanahan understand the physical game better than most and know when a player is just being physical or going too far. If they hired a guy like Crosby everyone would have foam wrapped around them, and players would get a game misconduct for inflicting an ouchy to an opposing player. -

LGW Moderator Problems
puckloo39 reacted to Euro_Twins for a post in a topic
You guys are right. Other sites are much more lenient. Which is why they suck. I actually think the mods do a great job of keeping things on topic and stopping things from getting out of hand. Sorry if you are butt hurt cause your Howard bashing thread was locked but seriously grow up. The mods usually join in on conversation and joke around, and sometimes they have to enforce forum rules. Go to hfboards if you want total anarchy -
