I don't often post on these boards but can admit that I sometimes ascribe to the camp of "Couldn't we have gotten at least a 6th rounder before losing player "x" to waivers". Maybe I just have a soft spot for knee injuries after seeing what Yzerman went through and still proving people wrong in 2002. Or maybe it's because I have meniscus wear and tear in my left knee too Wouldn't mind Ericsson getting dumped in a trade though.

For sure. We need him playing full time center as soon as possible, and I'm happy to hear that he will at least start there again this season. Ideally he plays 2C behind Zetterberg, but if that spot goes to Nielsen, I'd also rather him as 3C rather than wing. My ideal top 6 would be... Nyquist - Zetterberg - Mantha Tatar - Larkin - Athanasiou

I think Athanasiou would be more than capable of retrieving pucks for that line. I think the combination of speed and skill would be lethal on that line. Of course it will likely be Nielsen and Abdelkader up there with Nyquist or Tatar, so whatever...

Ah, gotcha. I hear ya. I don't blame you for calling bull**** on me, as I didn't explain up front that I was on the Burns-or-bust bandwagon way back when the Wild were looking to move him. I'd wanted us to land Burns because we'd just lost Rafalski to retirement, Lidstrom wasn't getting any younger, and we were in an arms race with the Sharks.

I'm not saying I hope they end up on LTIR (although I do believe that may be the best situation for the team). What I'm saying is I hope if that is the case, that Holland has already been made aware, which would explain why he hasn't done anything (yet) to make the team cap compliant. I don't actually hope ill health on anyone, but when a man's knees are as bad as Kronwall's, maybe hanging them up (unofficially) would be the best thing for his long term health. You're acting as if I'm saying I hope he gets hit by a car or something... If Kronwall comes back and is capable of playing 80% of the season as a legit top 4, great for us.

Unfortunately Sproul only makes $625K, so that doesn't help us a whole lot. Another move would still need to be made after Athanasiou is re-signed.

Teams probably wouldn't want those players at their current cap hits, which is why we'd have to retain salary. Again, no player is untradeable. If Holland really wanted to (he doesn't) he could trade Ericsson to a team like New Jersey or Buffalo. Ericsson ($1.5M retained) and a mid round pick (3rd or 4th) for a late round pick (6th or 7th) would likely get a deal done. I agree. But as for the bolded, the same can be said for trading Ericsson as well.
