True Faulk doesn't fix everything wrong with Detroit's blueline, but he's a good young right handed dman on a friendly contract. I think it'd be negligent for Kenny to not at least float some offers, since it's clear Carolina wants to move him. Rather see him go somewhere else than overpay though as he's not a franchise dman. I picture him as a solid #2 guy, so we'd still have to look for moar defensive upgrades, but at least the dman corps wouldn't be a total tire fire with him a part of it.

Yeah...GMs gonna G M. Waddell also brought in de Haan and signed him to a 4yr deal at a few hundred k less than what Faulk is getting. They now have 7 dmen signed for the season(1 on ELC) and they've got $27.6m tied up in those 7 blueliners. They still have questions in net AND their forward group is a bit underwhelming(imo). They've made Faulk expendable so that they can bolster other areas of need...methinks. Don't see Faulk in Carolina to start next year, but time will tell.

Interesting... On the one hand, I feel like it's an underwhelming return from Carolina's perspective. On the other hand, it's roughly comparable to what we got for Tatar. The Tatar return is slightly better (IMO), but Tatar wasn't on an expiring contract. Not sure if this gives us any additional insight re: what we could reasonably expect Faulk to go for. Huh. William Karlsson during his arbitration hearing:

Barring any mid season contract extensions, the Sens will likely lose Duchene, Stone and Karlsson after this season. If they're smart (they're not), they would trade all three players and get a major haul at this year's deadline. They will likely finish bottom 3 (I'm guessing 31st overall) this season, and have a great chance to land Jack Hughes, except they won't get Jack Hughes, Colorado will...

Stone will be a UFA after this season. Ottawa have to be the worst run organization in the league right now... Hell, probably even league history... This is next level bad management...

Yeah, seems like a Faulk trade has been in the making for the last 100 years...give or take. Word has always been that Canes management wanted too much. ...BUT NOW(lol) they've added Hamilton and de Haan, plus Faulk didn't exactly have a career year. If it's ever going to happen it should be soon™. Probably some other team overpays and the Wings don't get him...which I'm fine with.

Yeah, that team is being led by fools. Initially they offered him a piddly $5m...which is an insult for a guy that works his ass off for them both with and without the puck. Probaly he gets a bit more than that in arbitration and Melnyk/Dorion know it. Shame really, he'd likely have been their captain after EK leaves...now I think he just wants out of that dumpster fire, and I can't blame him at all. ZOMG if they lose Duchene after shooting themselves in the foot to upgrade from Turris...they're officially the laughingstock of the decade. They gave up WAY too much to get Duchene and like you said took themselves out of the Jack Hughes sweepstakes to get there. TERRIBLE trade imo...you have to figure Sakic is licking his chops watching the Sens implode.

For what it's worth, it's not clear that Carolina is actively shopping Faulk. https://mynhltraderumors.com/nhl-rumors-carolina-hurricanes-skinner-out-and-faulk-remains/2018/08/03/ “Faulk is different,” Waddell said. “We never said we wanted to trade Justin Faulk. People assumed when we picked up Dougie Hamilton that was the direction we were going to go, but we don’t feel that same way. We feel if we do stay status quo, we’re going to have one of the best defensive corps in the league. Saying that, if some team steps up to the plate for him or another of our players we’re going to continue to look at that.” That could just be posturing, though. Not that I'm aware of. Unless "It's high" counts, lol.

Best answer I've seen is from Ansar Khan, but that was way back on 7/9...haven't heard anything new since. Without Zetterberg, the Wings are a bit weak down the middle, and Veleno likely isn't a solution till next year. It'll be ugly if Zetterberg is on LTIR to start the season and either Larkin or Neilsen get bitten by the injury bug.

Oh, for sure. Even if Carolina didn't want to move him, I'd expect Holland to at least express an interest, kick the tires. I believe it was Elliotte Friedman who recently reported that the Wings have been interested in Faulk for a while now. So we know the Wings are interested. I just doubt the interest is strong enough to get a deal done. But I could be totally wrong.

We could pretty easily have had a couple more on this list. Rasmussen and Cholowski should both be in the discussion. Cholowski especially looked right at home in the WHL with Foote, Valiimaki, and Clague.

This 100%. They're basically the same player coming out of the draft, with the same strengths (skating, vision, passing) and weaknesses (shot, strength), same projection (Larkin already exceeded his), exact same size, etc. Hell, Veleno was even compared to Larkin pre-draft (before anyone even knew he'd be going to Detroit) by a few draft analysts. I have a feeling Veleno will exceed expectations the same way Larkin did. He has the drive and determination to get there. I'd take Veleno over Rasmussen and it's not even close for me. I think Veleno will be the much better player. I also see Veleno as a true center, and Ras developing into more of a winger, and I'd take the C over the W every time.

LOL Can't trust a damn panda in an office setting... Faulk had a fairly craptastic year and he's got 2yrs remaining @ 4.833 per. I'd not advocate overpaying, but Svech and some picks would be fine...though Carolina probably gets better offers. Pity Svechnikov didn't light it up while he was up with the Wings last year.

Kewlness. Now we can nab Faulk without having to take on his BFF too. Make it happen Kenny. Svech for Faulk str8 up...the brothers Must. Be. United. lol

Skinner finally dealt. Not sure how good of a prospect Pu (hehe) is, but good deal for the sabers at first glance.

Wings should be a wee bit higher, IMO, but I'll take it. Pretty fair assessments. I feel he's pretty solidly our #2. Certainly he's in the top three. I've said it before: I don't see much difference between 2018 Veleno and 2014 Larkin. I'm still not convinced he wasn't the best centerman available in this draft class. Time will tell, of course.

Sabres!!! Phooey!!! L33t tank commanders maybe. I imagine Colorado is going to be a lot higher next year after that totally horribad 3-way trade that sent Duchene to the Sens in exchange for their conditional 1st, 3rd, Turris, the kitchen sink, etc comes home to roost. Man that trade stunk then and is just going to look worse next year. Sakic bent Dorion over on that deal. Clearly...I digress, but I still have some Avs hate-or-ade on tap. lol A bit surprised they put Veleno at #2 on the Wing's prospect list...me likes.
