I wouldn't sign Bert long-term period. Offer a one or two-year deal, take it or leave it. Sell him on betting on himself on a one-year contract to have a rebound season. If it works, we have a valuable trade piece again. Then he can go and get paid his big contract elsewhere.
Otherwise, we just got to hope he heats up within the next month.

I'll be pissed if that happens. If Horvat wants to be in Detroit, he can wait until UFA.

This would be lovely. As much as I'd love Bedard, getting another center in the system with 1C potential is ESSENTIAL. We need guys that can take over when Larkin starts to decline in the coming years.
My one and only concern with Larkin as 1C and nobody in the pipeline to take that spot is how short our contention window would be. Moving up into the draft to take the best center not named Bedard would very much curb that issue.

Big Ras out here getting all sorts of love from his coach in the papers today. And Mickey and Ken wouldn't shut up about Berggren last night. We're starting to get some young players rounding into real difference makers here. This can only be good for the team. I think it's easy for fans, myself included, to think that progress for this team means bringing in new pieces. And we definitely need a few. But the growth from guys like Berggren, Ras, Walman, and Veleno are going to pay off massively as we keep getting better.

Yeah, that's such bullsh*t. What else is there to do in Moncton on a Friday night? The only difference with tiering would be that s***ty teams would finally have something to play for instead of getting fed to perennial powerhouses every night. Fans of s***ty teams would actually buy MORE tickets if they knew their local team wasn't going to get murdered every single game. And fans of the higher end teams (who are already doing fine) would sell more tickets because they'd see an increase in the quality of the players and competition.

In theory pot should help with pill addictions too. Many folks (not just athletes) get addicted to pills after they begin using them for pain management. This is likely the case with Vrana (coke jokes aside) as he played for a full year with a bum shoulder before even getting the surgery. I was recovering from a broken ankle recently and I ate edibles when the pain was bad, and it seemed to help a lot. I can't exactly compare with opiates because I didn't take any of those, but the CBD in the weed was plenty strong enough to manage that pain. At some point I imagine opiates will be phased out for all but the most debilitating pain and be replaced by CBD oils and the like. Many athletes already use CBD oils and such as part of their muscle recovery program (particularly boxers and mma fighters).

Seriously, why would we hang on to any of this mess? Trade bait everyone. Build a new generation untainted by Holland and Blashill.

Kraken didnt even do much this offseason. Added a few wingers same as us.
The difference has been they inserted a future superstar 1C into their lineup in Beniers. Hes taking the Calder home this year and it wont even be a competition.
Its almost like we should be doing everything in our power to get one of those.

Nope. It's pretty apparent coaching isn't the problem. A lack of high-end talent is. Raymond and Seider are our high-end talent. They still have lots to learn before they reach the point we need them to in order to be contenders. I figure it's at minimum 3 seasons before we start to see what players they will become in their prime. Larkin will be ready to enter his 30-year-old season at that point.
It starts to become pretty clear how bleak things look without another high-draft pick or two. Once the likes of Edvinsson, Wallinder, and Johansson get enough reps at the NHL to become an NHL-winning d-core, the roster is simply not good enough upfront with what is in the system now. Not even close. The first need is a legit franchise center. Kasper will be good, but he ain't it. Larkin also ain't it. Especially factoring in his age. The odds of getting these needs in the 10-20 pick range is pretty wishful thinking.
    tl;dr: We need a top 5 pick to get a potential 1C.
The current path we're on we'll be like the Blues, where you hope the planets align where you get one good run at a cup. I'd rather suck a little longer to stockpile high-end talent like Tampa.
The assets we can obtain selling Bert and Larkin would help a lot. There are zero reasons for us to have any less than 3 first-round picks in the upcoming draft.

This doesn't concern me. Yzerman is at the helm and not Holland.
Bedard would be the dream, but adding a couple more Seider/Raymond-caliber guys would go a long way too. We simply do not have enough of that in the system.

It's almost as if developing goalies is this team's problem. When Howard is the best you can come up with in the last 15 years, it's a problem.
No prospects pan out. Goalies who had success and come here start off well and then regress quickly. We saw it with Ned, and now Husso looks very human as well.
Perhaps we get some new personnel involved before giving up on a kid with the tools Cossa has.
This team's drafting has improved. No dispute there.

Let's go full chaos with Larkin, Bert, Maatta, and Walman as our trade deadline ammo. Obviously, that goes for any pending UFA we have.
But man, the more I think about it, the more I straight up just do not see enough high-end talent in this system to contend at any point. The pieces are there to be a really good team. But that is the ceiling IMO.
Can you win a cup with Larkin? Damn straight. Can you win a cup with Larkin as your best? I don't see it. Kasper can grow into what Larkin is and fit the timeline much better.
Things look good on the blueline. We have some good wingers too. Goalies I'm less concerned about. They move around every damn summer. But god damn the high-end depth up front, especially down the middle, just isn't there.
    Let's go full Bedard.

Do you mean that 2 whole inches of height difference?
Anyways, not sure why you're trying to educate me on the hit. I didn't even disagree with you, to begin with. I just pointed out that because of head contact, I get why some folks don't like it.
But hey, it's a league that pretends CTE isn't an issue. So what odds, right?

I do not think the hit was malicious on Reeves's part whatsoever. But Hronek's head was a principal point of contact. Incidental? 100%, no doubt. But I can see why people don't like the hit.
Hronek 100% has to be more aware as well.
It could very well be a suspendable hit based on the contact to the head. But with how inconsistent the league is, who knows? I wouldn't be upset either way. If no punishment, it was just an unfortunate result. If he is suspended, rules are rules, accidents be damned.
