marcaractac got a reaction from Rick D in 2024 Offseason Thread
It's also why I think Yzerman should focus on a top 4 LHD and not a RHD. Seider and ASP will have the right side taken care of. Get a guy like Chychrun, and Chiarot could play on the right side until ASP is ready for that role. He has experience playing on the right side.
Also agree on Ghost. He was a good fit this season. But let Seider and Edvinsson run the pp units next season.

Oh for sure. By no means do I think the additions in the lineup I posted are expectations. I feel guys like Guentzel, Stamkos, Chychrun, Markstrom would be the best players to target, with the hope that one (maybe two if lucky) can be acquired.
Plenty of options out there outside of those players. Those are more or less off the cuff thoughts of I think who would be great fits in the lineup.
He is one season away tops. Wouldn't be surprised and see him pull a Raymond and make the team out of camp this fall.
At worst he will need an adjustment period in GR.

Basically he will be the Edvinsson next year. One of the reasons I see ZERO need to re-sign or replace Ghost. We are 0-1 seasons away from adding a serious backend puck mover.

Trade for Markstrom (picks/prospects + Husso)
Trade for Chychrun (picks/prospects +Walman)
Sign Stamkos or Guentzel
Re-sign Kane
Trade/Buyout Holl
8 year extensions for Seider and Raymond
DeBrincat-Larkin-Raymond
Kane-Compher-Stamkos/Guentzel
Perron-Copp-Kasper
Ras-Fischer-Fabbri
Veleno
Chychrun-Seider
Edvinsson-Chiarot
Johansson-Petry
Maatta
Markstrom
Lyon
No Berggren because I figure he would be gone in one of the trade scenarios.
Chiarot has experience on the right side. Man the fort until ASP is ready.
If Johansson isn't in the vision, sign a defensive dman who plays with an edge for that third pair with Petry.

marcaractac got a reaction from 88Kaner in Red Wings Fired AL Sobotka
Cossa was always gonna be a riskier pick than Wallstedt, but I think it was the right pick. Cossa has the higher ceiling, and that's what Yzerman clearly went for.
Wallstedt will hit the NHL first and find success at that level first. I never thought otherwise. But assuming Cossa hits his ceiling, he'll be the better tendy.
We will see a period where Wings fans moan and groan about the pick because of it, but then they will disappear off of the face of the earth once Cossa rounds into form at the NHL level. Thankfully we have the 'fire Blash' movement distracting them all right now.
Wallstedt is really good, but I don't think he'll really get much better. He just 'got gud' really young.

I'm not sure it's an either/or scenario. There's only so much Lalonde can do when he's got three goalies who aren't any good and 5 of his 7 defensemen that don't defend well. This is particularly an SY issue because he explicitly hired Lalonde to improve the team defense and then gave him nothing to work with in that particular respect. Lalonde deserves criticism for his line combos, powerplay "strategy" (or lack thereof), and reluctance to recognize when something isn't working and adapt. But I don't blame him for the defense and the goaltending. SY has given Lalonde TWO decent defenders (Seider and Walman) and Lalonde plays them a zillion minutes a night against the toughest competition in the league. What else can he do?

Yzerman is the one keeping NHL-ready players in the AHL. It's also not Lalonde's fault that the roster has a first pair and two 3rd pairs on defense. Don't get me started on goalies not named Lyon.

I genuinely like Ben Chiarot and how he plays the game of hockey. I just say that with a few heavy caveats. First, he should never play more than 3rd pair minutes with PK time. Also, he should always be paired with a very good defensive-defenseman because Chiarot likes to gamble at even strength. Third, because of these two things he should only be making Justin Holl money. Under those conditions I absolutely love Bennifer.

I'd be more interested in Hanafin than Lindholm given how well JT Compher is playing (and how "meh" Lindholm has been). And it definitely wouldn't cost Edvinsson to get Hanafin.

I take back everything bad I've ever said about Robby Fabbri. He's a gamer.
Awesome backcheck by Raymond right there to break up a rush. One more offseason of lifting and he's going to be a star.
And another great defensive play with a stick lift and steal. Lucas is turning into Mark Stone.

marcaractac reacted to kipwinger in Eddog vs. Seider
I don't care whether Seider fights or not, but I do wish Kostin/Fischer/Chiarot would have beat the sh*t out of someone last night. Both Fabbri and Larkin got hit hard in the numbers. Would have liked to see some kind of response there.

I don't read that as him not getting respect at all, but rather the locker room lacks respect in general. Two very different things. My guess is whatever is being reported on here stems from whatever the Perry incident is.

In the end, PRIMETIMESNOOP with its 2725 followers is probably not a legit source at all and is just spewing bulls*** for engagement. At least we're not giving them what they want by discussing it in their replies on Twitter haha.
Bedard has always come off as a pro who wants to do things the right way. So I take tweets like this from accounts like this with a grain of salt.
Though I do hope he ******* hates that franchise haha.

Do you remember the Alfredsson season? He led the team in points. 18G/31A. Dragged them into the playoffs. Zetterberg and Datsyuk were very unhealthy for the 2nd half of that season.
Richards and Modano were total failures tho for sure.

Here is an idea: go back to allowing ties if OT doesn't solve anything.

And despite not playing their best game, they were a non-call on a thrown stick and/or a Raymond post away from a win.

As for Holl and Chairot, it's almost as if when you play a player in a position he is suited for, he will strive. The Leafs had Holl in the top 4 because they were so thin on D. It's no surprise to me he struggled there. He is not a top 4 dman.
As far as Veleno goes, he already worked his way into the top 9. He has been centering the third line and has been killing it. If this truly is a breakout year for him, I see zero reason to trade him.
Veleno playing at this level means you can ease Kasper into the lineup on the wing when the time comes. Even Larkin started on the wing in his rookie season.
I'm absolutely gutted for Fabbri though. He is such a good player when healthy, but just cannot stay that way. Though I guess having an often injured player in the lineup does make it easier to ease rookies in.
Also, did anyone else see that the Ras/Compher/Copp line asked to play against the Crosby line vs the Pens? That is some baller s*** and I love it.

Says the guy who never misses an opportunity to talk about him. It's only "rent free" if he's not CONSTANTLY being referenced.
It's not really all that complicated. He sucks now for the same reason Mantha sucks now. Because once they moved on from Detroit their ice time dropped and they weren't getting prime powerplay minutes. Bert is never gonna score as much as he did in Detroit again unless he goes to a bottom feeder, just like his look-alike Zadina did.
Hell, he wouldn't wouldn't even be on our top powerplay unit this year if he was still on the team. If Raymond isn't good enough to play on our top unit Bert certainly isn't.

marcaractac reacted to kipwinger in Bold Predictions for the 2023-24 Season
Cross your fingers for a Vancouver collapse. He's held off signing a new contract with them in order to see how their season goes. If they're trash he's as good as gone and you'd have to think we'd be a top destination for him considering we can afford his salary, we've got tons of trade chips, we're a good team, and we've got about 2,000 Swedes on the roster.
