marcaractac got a reaction from LeftWinger in Detroit Lions 2023 Thread
That Stafford trade is wild to look back on. Even if Goff was trash, the Lions still made out like bandits in that deal with what they used the picks for. The fact that they STILL have a QB they can win with is ******* wild.

Yeah despite the Lions' issues, it was nice to see them battle back to force OT. Though I did think settling for the FG at the end to tie it was very lame.
People also need to realize this team is still 1-2 years away from being legit contenders. It's a very young team and the D could use another draft.

To be fair, Kasper had to rehab his knee for most of the offseason. I'm not shocked to see him be a step behind.

Kasper played the first two games with bums on his wings and he still generated a ton of scoring chances. Then I’m the 3rd game he finally got to play with decent wingers and not surprisingly he had two points. I’m not worried about his offense at all.

I don't think it's worth getting bent out of shape over a couple of prospect games playing behind some of the worst defense I've ever seen.
As long as he shows the same type of growth in GR that he had in Toledo last season, I'd say everything is on track with him (Cossa).
He's gonna struggle from time to time. What is important is that he grows and learns from it.

Lets talk about the defense.
Everyone has forgotten how good the D is. Mahomes got fuqqed by the D. Our trench players are golden. Most dont realize the D was an above average D to end the season last year. This isnt a situation where our D is better than most think, this is a situation where our D is WAY better than most ppl think.
This IS a superbowl contender.

Because folks REALLY need to scrape the bottom of the barrel to find Yzerman L's. In reality, the only major one is Chiarot. Even then, calling it major is a stretch.

Playoff bound. 14-3. Lalonde wants to fondle MCDCs huge balls.

This narrative of yours makes no sense. Yzerman literally completely overhauled the team's strength and conditioning department when he came in as GM because it was so out of date from the Holland era.
Great conditioning is not gonna turn a roster into a squad of fighting goons.
Also, every team deals with countless injuries every season. It's not exclusive to Detroit.
Look at the chart since 2009 (with a bunch of Holland-era seasons included) vs. the chart from last season up until March 10th. Detroit is middle of the pack. There are no strength and conditioning issues.

1. Svech was never the same after his injuries. His luck in the league since has proven letting him go was not a mistake.
2. There was a short period of time this wasn't looking too good, but seems like an irrelevant move at this point. Regula might become an NHL regular at some point, but doesn't seem like he'd be anything outside of replaceable.
3. The jury is still out on this one. In the end, both likely end up as really good number 1 goalies in the NHL.

marcaractac got a reaction from Rick D in If there was no lottery...
The German thing was my own speculation on why sports media people on Twitter were posting it, to begin with. Regardless of where these 'sports journalists' get their info, these posts are absolutely rumors. Whether they themselves are hearing it through the grapevine or are starting it themselves. That is what rumors are.
It's just such a stupid thing to give people a hard time over. Make no wonder this forum has all but died.

There 100% were sports people on Twitter posting about Detroit having interest in Stutzle leading up to that draft. It was likely based solely on the fact that Yzerman already drafted Seider from the same program before that. But it was still put out there, regardless of how true it may or may not have been.
To expect folks to go back and find specific tweets from multiple years ago to prove it is just foolish. Let it go.

The NHL is not a developmental league. You don’t just put guys in the NHL and tell them to learn, especially in top line roles, it doesn’t work. Imagine if, on your first day of a new job, your boss told you that you’d be evaluated based on how you perform against the very best people in your field over the course of 82, one hour long, competitions. You’d be f*cked.
“Our scouts said you need to work on your faceoffs kid, well tonight you get to practice against Ryan O’Reilly. Don’t worry though, you’ve got Alexander Barkov and Patrice Bergeron later this week if that doesn’t go well for you. We’ll check back in at the end of the month and let you know if you’re meeting the standard your 20 minutes a night justifies”.

I'm looking for the article now, but I recall reading somewhere that he was up to around 200 lbs now, and that his lower body strength in particular had developed a great deal. If that's true then he's made considerable headway on the two improvements the organization asked him to make (the other being to play less on the perimeter). I do think that he needs to show he can play a solid defensive game if he wants to play on a scoring line, but his defensive metrics already grade out at about league average. He seems to be responsive to coaching and IMO it's not surprising that the guy's offense plateaued a bit as he focused on playing a responsible game. But 14 goals as a rookie is still pretty impressive to me.

Jonas clearly just looks at stats. He sees 'from Sweden, 5'11"', and makes the conclusion that he is a weakling Euro who cannot make anything happen on the ice. Just like he reads that Raymond spends the summer in his home country, therefore could not possibly be hitting up a gym there.

This is another instance in which I don't think we're seeing the same things. I saw Berggren making plays all over the ice that his linemates couldn't finish, not the other way around. At one point his linemates were Zadina and Veleno, there was no chance either of those dudes were finishing the plays he set up.

marcaractac got a reaction from Akakabuto in Eddog vs. Seider
Edvinsson had surgery in May with an expected 4-6 month recovery time. He'll be in GR to get back into game shape.
It's ridiculous to expect a 20-year-old defenseman, who cannot put in work at the gym all summer, to step into the NHL and produce to start the season. Let's be realistic here.
-
marcaractac reacted to kipwinger in Eddog vs. Seider
Even if he's adequately "recovered" he still missed an entire offseason of training/conditioning/development. If you broke your leg and it took six weeks to heal you'd technically be "recovered" but I doubt you'd be out running 10Ks immediately afterward.
Personally I'd prefer he start in GR and stay there until he's up to game speed. Once he's dominating, call him up. I don't see any reason to rush it considering we've got seven NHL caliber defensemen on the roster without him.

The big issue Sens had last season was goaltending. They've addressed that. They'll have a much better season between that and their own young players getting better.
Wings have much more depth in the prospect pool. But we got nobody that can compare to guys like Stutzle and Tkatchuk up front.
If the Wings are gonna be better than the Sens, it's got to be on depth. Because they have us beat on high-end talent.
