1. Agreed, but unless Cholowski suddenly develops NHL abilities, he would be a worse choice there.

I wouldnt re-sign Staal. The only point of bringing him in in the first place was the pick attached and the hope of flipping him again later. Without any compensation, I wouldn't bring him back unless Suter and Martinez sign elsewhere.
I wouldn't consider Hronek a vet yet. 
DeKeyser is really the only vet D on the roster, and he'll only be here one more season anyway and will need to be replaced anyway.
Same with Stecher. May be taken in the expansion draft, but only has one more year left on his deal even if he stays.
Seider, Hronek, and Cholowski for sure on the roster this coming season.
DeKeyser most likely there for one more season. That's only 4 spots.
Even if Stecher doesn't go to Seattle and Lindstrom also makes the roster, you still have one more spot to fill.
I would sign one more vet, who would be a good fit with Seider, to a 2 year deal.

Cholowski - Stecher
Lindstrom

He just blew by Larkin on the celly but then realized Larkin did all the work so he went back in for the hug haha. You love to see it. 
 
Really though, I like Brome. He’s a gritty little bastard and he scored there because he’s not afraid to play in the hard areas.

Apparently playing the most minutes on the team, and being tied for the team lead (with Larkin and Mantha) in points as a defenseman is "disappointing"? Nah. Find another whipping boy. Hronek is FAR from a problem.

I would like to see Lindstrom given a fair chance as a RHD. I liked what I saw in his limited time with Detroit. If he can develope a steady defensive game as a 3rd pair, it's win.

I was happy he finally put one in, he's been one of the better ones for us imo.  He is one of the few guys we have that seems to be able to carry the puck through the opposing team and hang onto it, he does however seem to have finishing issues.  Him, Brome and Ras would make a killer 3rd line behind Larks, Bert and Mantha and Ryan, Fabbri and Zadina.  

Well if Kip was high on him, then yes! We must trade for him at all cost (rolls eyes) 
My real answer is "no, no real interest".

5. Vince Dunn was off the second power play in St. Louis’s morning skate Tuesday at Vegas. Coach Craig Berube would not reveal his lineup, but will that mean a healthy scratch?
Dunn has had a rough start, but his talent is respected. St. Louis had a lot of trade talks about him in the summer before signing him. They are believed to be looking for a first rounder.
 
Iirc @kipwinger was pretty high on him (right?). Ignoring the 1st round pick part - they are not getting that anyway. Whould anybody be interested? Start of negotiations with a 2021 2nd pick? Wings got three of those.
Right side D is shaping up nicely with Seider and Hronek. Need some help on LD though. Prospects are still a few years away.

One wonders what Yzerman is thinking(and planning to do) when seeing Manthas performence. Considering how hard both Steve and Blashill preach work ethic and competitiveness as a key to avoid a "losing culture" to set in and to do this rebuild right. 
Right now, Mantha is looking like a loser out there. Flashes of brilliance and hot streaks will not make up for it.

1. Detroit finishes 27th overall ahead of Chicago and falls to Florida by 1pt. Jeff Blashill gets a new 3 yr contract.
2. Bobby Ryan has an exceptional year w/19g and 28a. Gets resigned by Detroit $4.5 x 2yr.
3. Anthony Mantha stays healthy all year.

Yes - I believe you are right, but the remainder can be a mix of D/forwards, or even possibly an extra goalie on top of the required one.
I am so looking forward to this upcoming season.

Zadina may well be a 1st line winger. He has improved every year so far, but he would need to bump Mantha down. Possible, but not likely as Mantha has shown flashes of being a top 10-15 range power forward. So, a tough road ahead.
Understood about 3 scrimmages. I want to see Fabbri, Nametsikov and Zadina together for 10-15 games. That will give them time to gel together and give us a good idea of how good they can be.
I think Brome has earned a 3rd line roll. He looks to be able to play 2nd line if needed.
 

Zadina may end up playing on the 2nd line, but that doesn't necessarily mean he's not a 1st line caliber winger. Teams rarely have their top two wingers (especially if they're both better suited on the same side) on the top line. Zadina will be in competition with Mantha, for that top RW spot. If both are top line caliber wingers, one will have to play on the 2nd line. It depends on how Blashill wants to spread out the offense. Same applies to the power-play units.
I'm not sure if anyone's stock should go up or down in one (or even three) Red/White games, but I agree, Zadina and that whole line looked really good. I'm really likely Fabbri at center so far, and Namestnikov has been impressive in all three scrimmages. Brome has looked good as well.

He's our #1C by default...  as you correctly point out, we literally have nobody else for the roll.  We have several replacement level centers a couple of 3Cs and Larkin.  He's playing up in a very thin line up.
I can't think of a single contender where, if given Larkin for free, he'd push their current 1C down the line up.  
That's because he's a 2C.

I'm like a broken record because people still need education on both counts.  31st ranking, that's what you want to hang your hat on, then by all means.  To be a contender we need Larking playing at 2C, if not we're a pretender.

I assume this kills any chance of Cholowski being a regular.

He's a very good 2nd line center.

.I might agree if we were looking at any kind of difficult decisions in our protection list. But right now the most difficult question is who do we sign to be the 2nd experienced forward exposed that we wouldn't mind keeping too much if Seattle doesn't take him.
And he didn't so much show he deserved a spot as he benefitted from weak and often injured competition. Technically, Libor Sulak also earned a spot out of camp a couple years ago. Now two years later Cholowski still needs weak competition to have a shot. That's not really earning anything.
