I think we are due for another bottom 4-7 year. So yea I wouldn't mind. But only on a 1 year deal. Datz will bring more people to LCA as well, which is really needed. I for one, would go to at least more one game to see Datz play again.
I am not bent on how he left like many are. Life happens, things change, not like he cost us a Cup or he joined TOR. If he going to come back to the NHL, it may as well be in a Red Wing jersey. I would rather see him in the KHL than join another NHL team outside of the Red Wings.

He's acquired most of his players through draft and/or trades, and doesn't really have too many homeruns from the UFA market besides Stralman. He's passed out some suspect contracts to the likes of Callahan, Carle, and Filppula, but then he's also found unknown players like Johnson and Gourde who've contributed a lot.
IMO it doesn't seem to me like Yzerman is overly good at trades or contracts... His real talent looks to be recognizing potential where others may not see it. This has led him to get Jon Cooper, Kucherov, Point, Palat, Roloson, Stralman, Johnson, Gourde, Bishop. Most of those names have been absolutely crucial to the Bolts success.
However its burned him too on Carle, Filppula, Garrison, and Lindback, and not seeing it in Gudas, Marchessault, and DeAngelo. I think the difference has been Yzerman actively seeks to solve the problems when they arise. Carle bought out, Filppula dumped, Garrison dumped, Drouin stonewalled then traded. That's what I like about him, Holland has been content to just leave bad contracts on the books and wait them out.
 
 

Currently an RFA, can become a UFA next summer. If the Wings are interested in him, the smart play is to wait until next summer and try to sign him to a not-insane deal. That would mean we risk losing him to another team in a sign-and-trade, but, personally, I'm really not sure it's worth giving the Jets what they'd probably want. Specifically, I'm guessing the ask would be something like Mantha/Athanasiou/Hronek + pick/prospect. Maybe that trade makes some sense in a vaccum, but knowing Trouba can and probably will hit the market next summer as a free man, I just think it makes more sense to wait. If another team trades for him and we miss the boat, oh well.

It doesnt really change my cofidence one way or another.
You gotta think that with the draft only 2 months away that Holland will still be heavily involved with this one, which makes sense considering his history as a scout. Having both Yzerman AND Holland at the helm for rhe draft gives me reason for optimism, but I dont think it changes our picks all that much if at all.
Where I really think the advantage will be is with roster management. Yzerman can utilize buyouts or trade away bad contracts more easily than Holland could because he doesn't have to fix his own mistakes and allows Holland some measure of saving face.
Also, I don't think he makes the same moves in free agency as Holland does, although I do think he lets Kronwall come back for another year if he wants to. Those 2 have history. I just dont think you'll see him bring in the Vanek types anymore.

To be honest, Holland has started to win me back over the last 2 seasons. He's done some great drafting, he has his flaws without a doubt and I am sure Yzerman will as well.
