A.T.Hun 0 Report post Posted February 27, 2007 Well, I was one of the people speaking against Bert because of his back and his lack of performance in the playoffs. However, for a prospect (and not one of the biggies) and a conditional pick, it's a lot to gain and very little to lose. I think Kenny should be congratulated for addressing the key issue without mortgaging the future (a la a former Red Wings front office man in Atlanta). haroldsnepsts 4,826 Report post Posted February 27, 2007 I'm not a Holland slappy, but it still seems like there should be a lot more people in this thread giving mea culpas for bitching about him not doing anything.

Hockeytown Red Wings 245 Report post Posted February 27, 2007 Hey, for this cheap...hell of a trade....wow.
HockeyCrazy3033 168 Report post Posted February 27, 2007 Hate to be the one to bring this up... but this means that Hudler or Flip probably sits (when everyone is healthy): Datsyuk - Zetterberg - Holmstrom Calder - Lang - Bertuzzi Maltby - Draper - Franzen Cleary - Filppula - Samuelsson (Hudler, Kopecky) I look at that..and see Bert and it's just WEIRD but in a great way. Who would have EVER thought *even though we've talked about it* that he would be a freaking Detroit Red Wing! Wowza. I know we've all hated on him..but this move is amazing if it works out. Someone to FINALLY take care of Pav and Hank. LOVE IT.

I'm a little skeptical on how much Bert will help in the playoffs (though I'd love to be proven wrong). But Holland got him so cheap, especially when you consider how much other GM's have been paying out the ass. I have to say, Holland really surprised me by pulling this deal off. YoungGuns1340 1 Report post Posted February 27, 2007 Let me be the only one on here to say....Bertuzzi is a train wreck..... I have seen him play 100's of times..... Mods...get the board ready for the following Threads... Bad penalties.....Bert Bad attitude....Bert Never Won at any Level....Bert Injured.....Bert Selfish Player...Bert Time will add about 10 more topics on this guy..... Sad day to see a player like this about to put on a Wings jersey.... Detroit took NO risks in this trade and the only thing they give up means Bertuzzi played well. Im beyond happy here. This changes the entire dynamic of this team.

Sad day to see a player like this about to put on a Wings jersey.... Dino Ciccarelli served jail time for whacking the hell out of another player multiple times in the head with his stick. Was that a sad day too? s*** happens in hockey. The injury was a freak occurrence, much worse has been done, much worse will likely be done to other players. Get over it. If you think Bert is the most dispicable guy to ever lace up skates then you never watched Claude Lemeiux or Bryan Marchment or Dale Hunter, etc....... tazzer82 0 Report post Posted February 27, 2007 This is the one player I did not want to see become a Wing, and am not at all thrilled with this move. But, nothing I can do about it. I was one that said I didn't want to see him a Wing, and it's a bit of a risk since he hasn't played a game yet, hopefully he will be gone come summer. Now all of a sudden, the Wings are the team to beat again just because of this trade. We'll see if he actually plays any games, or makes any difference once he does play. Gizmo 21 Report post Posted February 27, 2007 I was against this when it was rumored due to the Moore incident. But since it's done, then so be it. I hope it works out for the team and it's a good pick-up.
auxlepli 17 Report post Posted February 27, 2007 Bert's history aside, my main concern is his health, and even how much he'll show up in the playoffs if healthy. He's not exactly been dominant, and it's gonna be hard on a new team and coming off injury. That being said, it sounds like Holland made a great deal to get him here. My sentiment exactly. I worry about Bertuzzi health more than Forsberg's. That said I've always liked Bert, even when he was with Vancouver.
Sleight 0 Report post Posted February 27, 2007 Long time reader, and a first time poster. I am absolutely thrilled we got Bertuzzi. I am 1000x happier that we got him as opposed to Guerin. I think the upside of this deal definately outweighs the risks.
Learn2LuvIt 246 Report post Posted February 27, 2007 Good pick-up Kenny. Now we need to hire another team doctor and physical therapist to follow-up Dom and Todd around at all times. How will Bert and Chelli get along? There was some very bad blood there at one time--it even got personal in the press. I'm sure they'll be good teammates and professionals. Heroes of Hockeytown 694 Report post Posted February 27, 2007 But Holland got him so cheap, especially when you consider how much other GM's have been paying out the ass. In a perfect world, Tkachuk and Guerin will tank it and Bert will power us through the playoffs, acquired on the strength(!) of his wonky back.

MarkusNaslund 0 Report post Posted February 27, 2007 Red Wings play the Canucks at Vancouver on March 17th, HNIC. The return of Todd Bertuzzi. That's going to be a hell of a game.
StevieY9802 6 Report post Posted February 27, 2007 You will hear it a lot. High risk, high reward. Once he gets into game shape watch out. People were complaining all day saying Guerin wasn't too expensive. This was cheaper, a little more risk like I said but this could end up being a good one. I was scared nothing would happen but this is good, very good.
